🥝 Community Kiwi Space Station 13 Server (2024 edition) - Space Station 13

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Here is what it's like to be a ghost with 120 ping:
The hell? Been digging around the code a bit, I can see how the AI might be doing that but not how ghosts are doing it, did you do anything different at all?
And you're complaining about the fucking movement?
He's obviously experiencing some kind of bug

Please do.
All the files are in there. also the closets might need to be resized a little bit. because they take up more than one square. I argued for this in unity station because i thought closets always looked silly how you could hide in them but they were smaller than you. So I added a collision map. most of my remade sprites have added frames for directions. Some of the crates may need to be tinkered with because with unity at least the little light that shows it its locked or not was a separate layer on top of the sprite (dont know how it works for byond engine). If nothing else this will be a good way to get people passionate about making Space Station K13i its own unique thing. I've attached some samples of the sprites so you know what they look like before downloading the .zip

I wasn't exaggerating when I said about 1000 sprites. I was the only one mad enough to tackle a walking animation. I was like 80% done with remaking sprites for every single piece of clothing to work with the walking animation too. I have other work I did, such as UI, but I don't know how well that would translate over to Byond

One trick that may work is allowing people or npc events to put up contracts for definite amounts of materials
Threats that punish players who get too greedy without bringing down the odds of survival to 0
Could potentially combine these two pretty easily. Contracts with a definite amount of materials tied to them, a time limit which starts counting down as soon as you "accept" the contract that isn't too unreasonable but doesn't allow players to stay off the station for the whole round hoarding materials, and actual consequences if you fail to fulfill it in time including demotion, death, other shit like that. Something along those lines could also open the door for sabotage and other tomfuckery to happen while players are trying to fulfill said contracts. I imagine it would be a lot of work to implement into the game on the back end but it could definitely work

Its kindof an art style mismatch but its worth looking over

Not a huge fan of this I think it would be painful. I think just not letting the miners lock it in, so whoever cashes it in first would be better. It sucks a little for the miners since they may wind up racing eachother but the current issue is goods not making it back to the station in a timely manner at all.

Yeah true. Thinking about it more, time limits are often pretty fucking gay, they're difficult to implement in a way that doesn't make players hate whoever put them in. Too much shit wouldcould probably go wrong while getting to the outpost, leading to a rage quit or something like that which doesn't help anybody and would inevitably drive players away. Going the competitive route about it with departments and players racing each other for maximum cash out rather than a timer would also fit way better into the environment of the game.

IDK how to deal with the possibility of someone cashing in before you can,
Maybe have physically handing in the contract as if it's a bit of paper or its own object tie in with handing in the materials. Whoever hands in the paper alongside the materials gets the money? It could potentially open up more chances for shenanigans, start off all buddy buddy with the boys, someone starts getting a bit too greedy and tries to kill off everybody else, steal their contract papers and get all the money for themselves, but that could also lead to them staying off the station too long as well, sheeeeit son

My inclination was to just make an 'ore vendomat' type thing, and people can walk up to it and punch in an order, and whoever shoves the desired ore in first gets paid by the machine. Probably would be smart to remember to make it refund if the round ends and nobody fills the contract.

Sounds like a good plan. Going by how a lot of other machinery on the station recognizes players by whatever ID card they're holding, people cashing in before you do/sabotage would be worked in with players stealing other peoples ID cards or something like that, which is already in the game so that's less work on your end as well.

I've wasted over an hour trying to connect to this server to no avail. I keep getting a very specific error message, "Connection failed before handshake". I'm on latest BYOND version, so 515.1633. Did all the widely-known things to help with the usual "connection failed" message like clearing cache and connecting to other servers. Send help
For anyone who might ever experience this issue: downgrading to the latest 514 version of BYOND did the job. I should probably make a post on BYOND forums about this.

Got a bit bored and decided to try make a new application icon so it looks neat in the taskbar when we're all playing. The 32 bit one is super jank and needs a touch up to make it a bit cleaner, but what are peoples thoughts on the white vs black 13, couldn't really decide which one was better.

The black one hurts my eyes, the white one is nice though.

Is SS13 the most failed-remaked game of all time? Shit has to be cursed. Just off the top of my head there's Centration, Ion, SS14, the og SS"13", a few rossiyan servers too.
I don't think even Duke Nukem Forever had so many internal rewrites.

This actually looks pretty gud

Is SS13 the most failed-remaked game of all time?
I wouldnt personally attempt such a thing. Its so locked into the various tradeoffs BYOND took as an engine. Lord willing I will eventually make my own game but it wont be anything like ss13.

Something something huuuuwite best.

Here's the files with the correct names. I've sharpened up the 32 bit one a bit as well. Should just be able to directly replace the existing ones under /rivierastation13-slavemaster/icons/ if you decide to implement them

Another potential avenue is make being off-station bad for your health? maybe taking rads that arent entirely covered by your gear, maybe personal gear protection degrading over time so you want to ask robotics to make you a big fuckoff mech exoskeleton so you can mine more safely and ask chem/medical for rad chems.

Of course the problem then becomes what about if med/chem arent staffed or tell you to fuck off how you deal with the rads.

Also does this version have it when your irradiated it spreads rads everywhere you walk? Because that could be very !!FUN!!

Honestly I dont know why SS13 space isnt full of rads anyway if they're close enough to a sun to use solars
