Legend of Zelda thread - Lorefags GTFO!

From what I've seen: Sonic is infinitely worse, Mario promotes arrested development, Fire Emblem is primarily about the shipping community, Pokemon is furries and sweaty math, and Zelda is just your usual cringe with the timeline bullshit that devs are trolling their fans with.

Kind of depends on your definition on "dorky," tbh.
Protip: Every single one of those communities are Nintendies.

This is more about the fanbase than the actual game, so forgive me if I'm derailing, but does anybody else feel like Zelda has one of the "dorkiest" fanbases in existence? No offense to anyone here, and I like the franchise myself, but the general "normie" fanbase is just lame and cringey as fuck.
>Oh my God Nintendo, I'd literally pay a million bucks for an Ocarina of Time remake on Switch!!!
>I just named my kid after a Zelda character!!
>This video game literally defined my entire life
And not to mention the gaudy tattoos and those weird "game dubs" on Youtube. Like don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with being passionate about something you're interested in. But the way these guys express it so plain dorky and fit neatly into the soy reddit stereotype.
Dorky? Yeah. Dorkiest? Not even close. As NerdShamer said, Sonic is infinitely worse and is easily amongst the worst game fanbases ever.

Yes, they're very retarded. I'm an unapologetic Zeldafag and I have an embarrassing amount of shit in my office, but I'm cringey enough to name my child Ganondorf or, even worse, tell Nintendo to waste time on more remakes as opposed to new games. At least Zelda, largely, isn't overrun with shipfags. That's really only for nu-Zelda faggotry.

Midna may be R34 bait, but at least her in-game character arc is Zelda's best. nuZelda has the most cardboard cutout Link since the 90s paired with a Zelda that's only known for her butt, in one cutscene... Even after 6 long years of DLC Tears development and multiple spinoff games, they couldn't manage to make a Zelda x Link ship that was better than Skyward Sword's. Nintendo lost their mojo, the Switch's "victory" defeated them.

Remakes can be outsourced, you're just iterating on a successful game. I recall the Oblivion Remastered devs made an interesting point, there's the way you remembered the game, how it actually was, and their goal is trying bridging that gap. I don't see how OoT's graphic style can be brought forward but the neat thing is if they did and pulled it off well, they'd already have most of what they'd need for a Majora's Mask remake.

If they remake anything, it needs to be A Link Between Worlds if only to get it off of the DS.
I'd like Oracles but Grezzo, but only if they add some new hook. Something with Fraroe, even if it's like a way more robust version of Chamber Dungeons - like full on "Zelda Maker."

This is why I want Grezzo just to do Oracles. They've got all they need, plus all the Echoes assets. Both games on the same cart, streamlined password system, redone music. It'd be great.

Of course, another new game would be good, too. They did pretty well with Echoes all things considered.

I have been very happy with most of Grezzo's work. To that end, they should make another Ever Oasis or really any kind of action adventure thing that is their own. Not that Echoes of Wisdom was a bad thing. But they have the talent to make their own game.

The Oracle games would be great to have, yes. Maybe offer a greatly expanded quest for beating both games. The original extra quest was cool but maybe add a bunch more to it with Farore like you say.

The graphical style to the Link's Awakening remake triggers an irrational aggression response in my brain. It looks so ugly and soulless, I hate it. I can tolerate it just fine if it's used in an entirely new game like Echoes (okay game, not great), but I can't care about the idea of any more Zelda remakes. In fact, I'm tired of remakes in general. The entire industry has been spamming dozens of remakes of classic games lately and there's little to no reason to play any of them over the originals.

Yeah I'm largely sick of remakes and HD/DE versions of games. I accept them as a way to hold me over, but I prefer new stuff which is why I liked Echoes. Zelda's (and gaming in general's) 5+ year development cycle sucks and is terrible, and I hate it. 6 fucking years for DLC...

I wouldn't mind getting more remakes down the road (I mean let's be honest, it's gonna keep happening) as long as they don't make all of them that new chibi style for the top-down games. I do wonder why they chose Link's Awakening. A great game, but almost seems a bit random too.

I think that, when it comes to remakes, the best are those where the people making it just don't copy the original, but take the original idea and then go from there. In terms of movies, Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead remake is a good example, or Brian de Palma's Scarface. I think what bothers me about the LA remake, other than the artstyle, is that it's pretty much just tye same game again, and I can play that pretty well on an emulator. Now, of course, OoT 3D was almost an exact copy of the original, too, but OoT was as close to a perfect game as can be, so they didn't really have to change anything.

Another thing about remakes is that they're best when they fix things that were problems in the original game or film. Thing is, Zelda games have a way of aging really well apart from minor stuff here and there I can't think of a Zelda game that truly needs fixing. At most Zelda I & II, but an fully re-imagined version of Zelda I would probably just be Breath of the Wild again. That leaves us with Zelda II and, yeah, I'd play a version of Zelda II that's closer to OoT onwards in terms of gameplay.

Bottom line: Remaking Zelda games is pretty pointless overall. Just sell me a copy of TWW on my damn Switch.

An addition: Another game that would profit from a remake is TWW, because such a large chunk of the game was missing. However, they already did not do that when they released the remaster, so I'm really not hopeful.

I'm going to sound like a Skyrim player by saying this but while I had known for some time that the Fire Temple is basically two chimney stacks side-by-side, I only just noticed that this is consistent on the outside as well (scale issues aside)

The old Zelda games are the gifts that keep on giving. I really never realized that.

Also on the subject of remakes again, I do wish they'd remake the DS/3DS games so they can be played on the Switch 2. Even get the two Four Sword and Tri Force Heroes a proper single play mode. If they're gonna remake games, at least do so in a way that makes games that are getting harder to access a chance to be played by newer fans.

That's Spectacle Rock by the way. The same rock formation that the final dungeon is in in the first game and appears on Death Mountain in most games.

This is something I really like about Ocarina of Time. All the dungeons feel like they have some thought put into them as to what exactly they are and why they're designed that way. Like the Forest Temple is an abandoned mansion being slowly overgrown and haunted by ghosts that mess with the rooms. The Fire Temple is build into Spectacle Rock and is filled with prison cells because it was likely built for use in worshiping and sacrificing Gorons to Volvagia until it was originally killed and likely the temple abandoned after that. Or the Water Temple is a place of worship for Zoras and is built for ability to swim, it's built like a tower because it's inside the island, it's also the most pristine which fits with it being the most likely to still be in use going off some dialogue, and it has a lot of dragon statues around suggesting what they could be worshiping.

None of the other Zelda games feel like they have that level of thought put into the lore of their dungeons. The worst being Breath of the Wild where not only do all the Beasts and shrines have the same visual look, but the shrines explicitly only exist in-universe just to be training grounds for the hero, which is beyond lame. There's no reason for them to even be called shrines, the only thing religious about them is that the Sheikah monks that run them are visually based off mummified Buddhist monks.

Something that's always fun to do is think about why things in a game are the way they are, based on either a gameplay or a programming perspective if not both. Something I didn't mention until now is how I really like what Echoes of Wisdom did with the orbs to gate the final boss. It was downright subtle compared to BotW and TotK, which just had a heart counter decrementing to get the same basic effect. The more subtle something like this is, the better.
