Legend of Zelda thread - Lorefags GTFO!

I really can't see how any of you liked Wind Waker at all. The game felt like shit to play. I don't think I made it past the second hour; the last thing I remember doing was some forced stealth section right near the beginning of the game, and then shelving it because even controlling Link felt like a sloppy mess. And that was on the Wii U version, nevertheless.

Imagine taking anyone who calls someone joyless so dead seriously.
Nah. I just thought that was a little funny to point out. Sorry you didn't see it that way.

I'm not even going for the 'I was pretending to be retarded.', argument here, but you do know where we are, yeah? Shit talking is kind of this forums entire MO.
What?! No way, I thought my ass was on Reddit, no wonder I can say (almost) whatever I want without the jannies breathing down my neck. Thanks, man!

His entire thing the past page has been whining that he didn't have any sense of joy and wonder exploring a game world. That's pretty fuckin' joyless to me. That being said, it's all just games, so who gives a shit?
Nigga can't say he didn't have fun? I mean, you're right. It's all just games in a sense but what is the point of playing it when you obviously don't enjoy yourself?

And Wind Waker is shit. It's not the worst Zelda, not when Skyward Sword still exists, but it really doesn't have anything going for it, outside of a single likable character, which the game itself can't ditch fast enough, and the fact that the sailing can be pretty zen. Art, combat, story, dungeons, items, the overworld, and especially characters all suck a fat one.
I haven't played that bitch in years and despite (obvious) bias I can see what you mean.

I never played the Wii U version but the original WW was my first Zelda game as a child.
Still remains to be my favorite Zelda game. Everything about it is just *chef's kiss*
The music, the style, the gameplay, the puzzles, the dungeons. Peak Zelda.
Curious as to what your favorite Zelda game is, Pissmaster.
Also my hot take is that Ocarina of Time is the worst Zelda game. I've never cared enough to beat it.

Link's Awakening GB > BotW > LTTP > Zelda 1

Link's Awakening GB > BotW > LTTP > Zelda 1
Link's Awakening eventually becomes an unplayable mess without a guide due to all the item switching and lack of a quest log. Didn't play LTTP enough to have a true opinion (other than its been surpassed over the years by the games it helped inspire) and Zelda 1 is a great for its era game that is still worth at least one play-through today.

My main problem with Link's Awakening is that everything that it did was done way better by the Oracle games: combat, puzzles, dungeons, bosses, sidequests, items, even the story is more interesting (mostly only in ages to), with the only negative being the fact the game is split in 2 and you need to play both to get the whole experience, but that isn't so bad considering both games are their own distinct adventures unlike most 2 version games and you can easily emulate them on a potato nowadays. Link's Awakening only really interesting on the 2 last dungeons and also has that stupid decision to shove you text boxes everytime you slightly touch something without its intended item (rocks without the bracelet for example), this got fixed in the switch remake alongside the item swapping issue (to i didn't find that really annoying most of the time since it was fun having to give up the sword for something else most of the time) but fuck paying 60 bucks for something that i will beat in 10~ hours and looks like a funko pop.

Link's Awakening came out in 1993, the Oracle duology came out in 2001. They had 8 years to improve.

Link's Awakening, Oracle of Ages, and Oracle of Seasons are all excellent games everyone should play at least once. Nintendo is gay as fuuuuuuuuck for not including Oracles on that Zelda Game & Watch last year. Especially when they had the space to, and they opted to go with different language versions of Link's Awakening instead.

At the very least, the German version is on there, so you can hear the rave-ass MOYSE song any time you want

They were developed by Capcom, who might have been able to claim a fee off of each copy sold (Nintendo obviously doesn't make those types of agreements public.) Don't expect them in many compilations because of this.

Maybe, though there aren't many Zelda compilations at all, and Oracles did make it to 3DS Virtual Console. Considering they got some notoriously difficult licenses for SNES Classic Edition, like Earthbound and two Square-Enix games, I'm certain they could have worked it out. Hell, it's Nintendo, I'd be surprised if they didn't own full rights to mainline Zelda games like those.

Earthbound is partially owned by Shigesato Itoi, and maybe Creatures Inc., but I'm not sure. Itoi is mentioned in the copyright on the bottom of the Ness Amiibo.

Earthbound isn't in licensing hell, not sure where you got that from. Nintendo never stated what they did for the second and third party games they got on the Classic series, but the thought is that they probably paid for them. Earthbound, FF VI, Megaman, DBZ (in the JP version, IIRC) they don't just give that stuff away.

Also, the Oracles games aren't mainline (while Link's Awakening meets most definitions of it given that it was made by the main team, featuring the same gameplay mechanics.)

I meant that Earthbound is a Nintendo franchise that isn't 100% owned by Nintendo, so it can't just be slapped on shit willy nilly. Earthbound's partially owned by a mainstream celebrity - like, imagine if Bill Murray created Portal, so every time Valve wanted to do something with it, they had to go through BIll Murray every time. Things have been smooth sailing with Earthbound, fortunately, more or less, but there's not quite a guarantee that it won't end up in licensing hell, unlike Zelda.

Pokemon has a similar situation. If they ever did a Game Boy Classic Edition, it'd be interesting to find out just how much per unit would go towards Pokemon alone, even if they only licensed Red & Blue.

I consider them mainline enough, considering they're in the Hyrule Historia timeline. As opposed to, like, the CDi games and Link's Crossbow Training. Maybe it'd be better to call them supplemental games, considering they're canon, but objectively less important than the console entries.

Isn't Link's Crossbow Training perfectly canon-acceptable as part of Twilight Princess? Its the multiple-link games that can't fit. Anyways, canon-icity isn't really what I'd be looking for anyway. As of Odyssey, some form of DKC is canon to Mario, and I wouldn't call those "mainline Mario."

BotW is a joyless game, so it brings me no joy, that's the developer's fault.

As for your criticism of Wind Waker, the art is loved by most. There was a time when that wasn't true, but it aged well. And the combat is at least as good as any other Zelda, it's not as if OoT or Twilight Princess has such better combat as to make it suck by comparison.

The story is a little weak, it's simple. There's not many significant twists or turns or mysteries, unlike Majora's Mask. It's plenty serviceable though. Dungeons are memorable and pretty well designed, visually interesting and diverse so I can't understand that complaint.

Items are a mixed bag... There's not much new or exciting, they play it pretty safe. The leaf was fun to float around with, otherwise pretty unremarkable. Characters are fun; King of Red Lions is the best companion in the series aside from Ezlo, and Zelda is more interesting than she usually is, same for Ganondorf.

The overworld is a little too empty, especially by today's standards, so I guess it sucks. I didn't really think so when it was new but I can see it being an issue now.

Tldr; you're kinda right but fuck you, Wind Waker is awesome.
