Legend of Zelda thread - Lorefags GTFO!

but now that I'm starting to see that doing temples and korok fetch quests is a big part of the game, I'm getting cold feet. That, and I find building shit tedious more than stimulating.
For the temples, just ignore them. Fighting the final boss without doing them is way cooler anyway, because nothing comes there to ruin the amazing atmosphere (you can do everything other than fight the temple bosses for this). For the koroks, just strap rockets to them or something. For the building shit thing, if you go to the part of the game where you started in Breath of the Wild and jump down one of the deep holes to the underworld you get a power that lets you auto-build shit based on schematics you either find or save yourself.

Also, why walk when you can fly? Unlock the towers, unlock some shrines on the sky islands for the warp points (you don't even need to do the shrines, just visit them and you can warp) and you can then fly everywhere.

Hitler lives there though.

My friend has been playing for a couple dozen hours and we were talking last night and he asked me when the paraglider gets unlocked.

How much of the game can you play without the glider??

You can get all the way to the 5th sage sky temple without the paraglider, but for some reason, they put a check in place to see if you have the glider and block you completely if you don't have it. It's a strange place for that check, since at that point if you haven't needed the glider, you could indeed complete the 5th sage quest, and the game, without the glider. So, as a result of an arbitrary check they put in place, you can't finish the game as intended without it.

...how? How? How!?

It apparently involves lots of rocket shields.

I hope that Nintendo comes out with a more traditional, linear style Zelda game after this, instead of open world. It was a cool gimmick, glad to try it out, but ultimately its main purpose is to serve as padding. So much empty space. The flashbacks made me feel robbed. I know they can't render as much outside of cutscenes but - all of those trees! Dense forests! And Rauru's hyper beam- imagine getting to use that. Or fighting a hoarde of molduga at once. If they go back to more constrained areas, maybe we could 'have more with less'

TOTK has only been out a few months and has sold more than any other game in the series besides BOTW. These games have untterly obliterated the rest of the series in terms of sales. They're going to run this shit into the ground.

I had more fun with Tears of the Kingdom than I've had with any other Zelda game since Majora's Mask. The only thing I genuinely thought sucked about it were the 4 temples. They were boring and gave me Twilight Princess flashbacks. And not the good kind of Twilight Princess flashbacks where you remember spinning around on a top, but the bad kind of Twilight Princess flashbacks where you remember spending a bunch of time waiting for monkeys to grab a fucking rope while praying they use it to hang themselves for wasting your time.

How do you guys make money in TOTK? I’ve been selling ores I’ve collected or meat recipes I’ve cooked up but it doesn’t amount to all that much. Making money in BOTW seemed easier iirc

Talk to the guy in the basement of Lookout Landing. He'll hand you a series of "WANTED" quests that pay out 900 Rupees total for going out & slaying some bosses. You get a bunch of money for doing all the Lucky Clover Gazette side-quests & taking pictures of the Ancient Hylian texts that are found in the sky islands. Alternatively, hunt caribou for gourmet prime meat, cook meat skewers out of them (should sell for around 300 Rupees a pop if you use 5 pieces for each) or go mining on Death Mountain. There's a Gerudo trader who buys gems in quantities of 10 at a mark-up.

Yeah, Rupees are hard to come by in this economy, but it's kind of a welcome change from the old Zelda games. Ordinarily I'd be pissed because my wallet would be full (and in some games the Rupee outright disappear rather than going back into the chest) but in TOTK finding 50 Rupees is kinda nice. Finding 10 or 20 arrows is even better; feels like I'm constantly running dry.

I'd say the dearth of bombs is the most annoying thing to deal with.

I just make a bunch of food and sell it.

How the fuck do you manage to run out of arrows? They drop in the dozens every time you break a few barrels or boxes. I had close to 200 before even getting off the starting island.

The one good reason to gather poes. The poe statues sell up to 99 of them. Definitely worth it.

I was surprised at how easy the temples were. Very short, very straightforward puzzles, and I don't think I died on a single one of the bosses (and I *suck* at combat). I seem to recall that the Divine Beasts and their various takes on Ganon were much more challenging. It's not like getting to the temples themselves is a great challenge, I stumbled upon the wind and fire temples just through exploration. I even managed to Ascend into the final boss room in the lightning temple before completing all the puzzles, but because Riju's dumb ass couldn't get up there (I guess there's supposed to be a puzzle element with needing to have the sages physically present, but I don't recall that ever coming into play in the other temples), I was forced to backtrack to finish all the tedious mirror puzzles.

I also think fusing weapons is a bit of a bum mechanic as implemented, for the most part it just adds an additional task of picking whichever items you have that deals the most damage, dropping them, and fusing them with your weapons (arrows are a lot more fun). I know you *can* do all sorts of fancy shit, but that mostly just serves to make YouTube videos, as an actual gameplay mechanic you're just going to be damage maxing 99% of the time. I guess the gibdos in Gerudo Desert are a mild exception, but there's no point to exploring that area until you've cleared the lightning temple, and at that point you just use Riju to zap them and they're trivial to deal with.

There's a Goron near the Bedrock Bistro after you beat the fire temple who requests flint in quantities of 20, 50, or 100, with each an increasing chance that he'll give you 1,000 rupees. The chance seems decently high even at the 20 level, I walked away with three grand on my first interaction just because I never use flint.

I just sell monster parts and junk I don't need whenever the cash runs low. It is definitely stingier than the original game but unless you really want to horde every bokoblin boner there isn't much to lose from dropping your inventory to zero when there's shit you need to buy.

My biggest complaint so far is that zonaite is way too fucking rare topside. I don't want to have to descend into the depths every time I run out of ore to play with the builds I have saved.

So far I’m really enjoying tears of the kingdom but I'm losing patience for it in the same way I did with breath of the wild and will eventually just guide it up and finish any outstanding quests and shrines. I rarely see fireflies so I can't fucking finish the quest for the second fairy which annoys me a bit. Luckily I now have enough hearts to just tank getting hit. Also fuse has partially fixed the reward cycle for combat but I still get full of junk in my inventory. Cash hasn't been a problem after I realized the gems were not worth their one time offensive power in rupees. I'll probably cheese and guide my way to 100% when I'm about 3/4 of the way through the content I guess. Still have the faron storm thing and the gerudo desert to go through, then what I'm sure will be a cakewalk of a final boss. Glad I won't have to cross dress again.
