Legend of Zelda thread - Lorefags GTFO!

I was exploring the depths on my Green Goblin Glider and I ended up flying about 10m directly over a frox. Every time he took a step, my glider and Link started shaking. Not the camera, the glider and Link were shaking. Lol fix your physics Nintendo.

That was never the ground shaking, those were percussive shockwaves. problably

He was just walking around below me and the glider was rattling like I was on the ground right next to him. I flew over another one later and I was way higher up and it did the same thing. It's wonky physics. Even when one discovered me and did that jump attack, when it landed it still rattled the glider the same amount as them just walking around. It's no big deal, it kind of broke the immersion but it was just funny to see such jank.

Without going in the game to check myself, I assume they are applying a radial physics impulse and not checking to see if the object is touching the ground when it happens. Usually radial impulses are used mainly for explosions, so floating impulses would still appear to be working correctly, but if they are using it for stomping of a creature they should be doing some extra hacks to ensure it works more like the ground is shaking and causing an impulse instead of just a radial impulse. Would probably be a non-issue in a game without physics based flying machines, but because this game has those it has become an issue. You would think this kind of thing would be noticed and fixed but I guess not.

If its just a visual shake and not physics, then its the same thing but with a spherical falloff for a camera shake. Same issue, same cause, just no physics. I believe Half-Life 2 (was mentioned earlier, same physics engine, Havok) checks if you are actually on the ground when it applies world shake, which offsets the actual world render, even automatically applies based on physics prop weight and velocity, pretty interesting system. But that's getting off topic.

I realized that the underground is almost exactly like the hollow earth conspiracy theory. Don't know what to do with that information.

Rauru is a Nephilim who came down to earth to fuck human slags, there really is a secret shadowy organization out to get you specifically (Yiga) and since this is a video game the world is technically flat. The DLC will involve a Lizalfos conspiracy.

How much of the game can you play without the glider?
In botw you'd trigger an infinite fall if you jumped off the great plateau without the pataglider, but if totk doesn't have that then as long as you land in water you can make it to the ground. You'll die a lot if you try things like activating the towers.

Apparently there is special dialog for doing the first four temples and returning to Purah before she sends you to Hyrule Castle for the paraglider.

Neat!

The Rito level must have been a chore...

Majora's Mask is still my favorite. Took me ages as a kid to finally 100% it and get all the masks. Have such strong memories of that game and the atmosphere and tone. It's has such a bad acid trip vibe and I love it for that.

Is it possible to do a perfect run, where you re-complete all the bosses and repeatable sidequests in the same three-day period without rewinding the clock?

Not that I know of. Seems like it would be difficult. I haven't played it in like 20 years though.

Also I forgot about the oracle games, those are tied for me with MM. Super massive games when you factor in the linking factor. Amazing dungeons, awesome bosses, that duo of games is second best Zelda game for sure, maybe even first.

Maybe because I'm younger (possible power level) but Twilight Princess is like that for me, gives of similar vibes and I think the art direction is the strongest in the series. Also the otherworldly Twilight music is good, they even re-used a bunch of the samples used in Majora's Mask for it. If you are interested in samples used in games I have a whole collection of 90s sample CD rips with a bunch of popular samples. I like to go through them sometimes and just piece together what was used in what, yes there is a wiki of it but that's no fun.

Oracle games are really solid tbh. I feel like a lot of people sleep on them. Probably my favorite 2d games, either on par with LTTP or just slightly below.

I remember when wind waker commercials were airing, and all of us were shitting on it like wtf is this ugly cartoon Zelda game? Me and my friends all ended up loving the game and I remember thinking that ultimately it was the perfect art style for sailing the high seas. Realistic waves your boat rolling over wouldn't have quite worked with the ocarina and majora art style. Windwaker looked great with the ocean looking like a chalk sidewalk drawing of the sea.

I remember also being super excited for the art style of twilight princess, and it did deliver in alot of ways. The bridge was beautiful at the time. But I didn't enjoy TP gameplay all that much. I'd gotten a bit older and I couldn't get past my ffs, another fetch quest, impression of the game. It was the art style we were all hoping for though before wind waker usurped our expectations though. Beautiful game.

Twilight Princess is a game that loves wasting your time. I tried playing it again last week and it's unbearable. Every game mechanic seems tailor-made to take longer than it should, from attacking to picking up those stupid drops of light from the insects, which stay conveniently out of reach after killing the bugs and slowly descend downward until you can finally take them after a nice piss-break. Fuck that game. I hate it. The game might have been good if Nintendo hadn't gotten assblasted about the leaks and thrown away half their work to create some new half-assed bullshit on a deadline of no time left.
