So for anyone who's interested at all I looked at the thread and the first few videos of that lets play(when it was new), the wife basically whined and acted cutesy to make the husband help her and basically played cooperatively against the AI, which is completely missing the part of why a mario party LP would be enjoyable, i.e. the schadenfreude of watching people fuck each other over.
This turn of events is not at all surprising to me, I think just having to see trumps face is triggering to her.

Everyone knows the best way to play Mario Party is what Vinesauce calls "Mario Retardy". After each player takes their turn, before the mini game, take a drink/shot. Keep going each round until the end of the game.

i dont think it used to be that way i didnt browse back in the day from what ive heard people could take a joke it may just be second hand rose tinted glasses, although it would be interesting to chart the downfall of SA into sjw madness. I wouldnt be surprised if it started with the influx of people from tumblr because of the danganronpa thread, especially because lp has been so hard hit.

Well back in the day so-called LPers were just Games forums regulars, so there was no difference between them. Now its an insular group of people who think that they are the kings of their own threads. Incidentally, if people actually liked that Mario Party LP (doubtful) then the poster could have just offhandedly mentioned wanting a new avatar in one of their posts and someone would have brought it for him.

This was definitely a thing when Homestuck was waning. Dagan Ronpa became the next big thing with trashy fanfic-ers who didn't even play any games, or speak Korean or Japanese. So for a few years, SA was the premium place for them to get regurgitated content from the games.
Don't ask me how a person can spend months or even years sperging about videogame fanfics without ever having played the game. It's so surreal it doesn't even sound truthful.

It started somewhat early actually. I remember a thread in Games around 2011 that was all about minority representation (run by DnD regulars) and the posters there would bitch and moan about the exact same shit you hear today (boobs too big, skin too white) and occasionally raided other threads. The biggest instance of that was probably in the Duke Nukem Forever thread with constant complaints about sexism and misogyny. Eventually one of the mods put a stop to it so that was well before SA completely flipped and it wasn't as insane as today's shit, but it was a sign of things to come.
Couldn't find it in the archives. Dunno if it got moved or gassed but either way SA is a pain in the ass to search.

It all started with Obamamania in the run up to the 2007 primaries. Though of course Obama himself was dropped from the movement after being elected and forced to govern. You can blame it all on people like Petey.
edit: I would assume that defending the Duke thread was an Axe Maniac thing. Loving Duke Nukem was one of his gimmicks back in the day. He was a weirdo too, of course, but at least he tried to let people talk about games in his games forum.

SA in general, maybe, but Obamarama had literally zero effect on the LP forum in 2007/2008. I know this because that's when I was actually active there. There was no politics, just video games and making fun of people for sucking at video games.
I can't give an exact date on when LP when down the tubes but I would agree with whoever said it was the Dragon Romper thread's fault. That thread brought a bunch of douchebags into the LP forum. I think it was part of the reason slowbeef stepped down too. He HATED the DR threads so fucking much, and I don't blame him because it was nothing but weeb shitposting and fan fiction bullshit. It was worse than his Sprung thread, which was generally agreed to be the worst thread on in LP forum history prior to Romper Room.

Right, sorry, thought we were talking SA as a whole. Though obviously a bunch of these problem people had nothing to do with DR and there was bleed over from the rest of the forums, allowing the creepy fan fiction people to get away with it.

It's a visual novel so there's no real gameplay for people to experience. It's just like watching anime to them, plus every installment has 16 characters with different personalities for the tumblr kids to latch onto and claim they're fictionkin of.
