Let's Players originating from Something Awful - ft. VoidBurger, General Ironicus, Bob Kamoc

The best part of dangan ronpa's popularity was watching those same people scatter as the games went on and got way darker. The first game got pretty gruesome but it was softened by its presentation and general absurdity. The second game got more grounded in its mystery and character and thus its depictions of violence became more brutal. By the time of ultra despair girls they had a child molesting the protagonist and implied one of the good guys was a pedophile. Also the offifical translation changed some of the cutesy shit and made it a bit easier to take seriously. Around this point people bowed out because this was harder to ignore and as the characters became more nuanced it got harder to boil them down into jokes. Next time tumblr latches onto something pay attention to how they strip characters down to their bare characteristics.

Speaking of tumblr and Dangan Ronpa, apparently voidburger now streams the series with resident far left SJW internet "personalities" Shaun and Jen. From the sounds of thing VB has spent the entire first two games and Persona 5 watching Chip play them and obsessing over them. Tsk tsk, liking such misogynistic franchises? How very problematic.
Funny how someone who throws giant hissy fits and chews out people for liking JRPGs and anime games seems to have no problem being a giant hypocrite about things when she's not the one playing them.

Part of me likes to think he changed the channel name because he was annoyed about people constatntly making jokes that Jen was his right hand, or the skull he uses as his avatar was all that remained of her.

To be fair (and I am not inclined to be fair to that prick) Jen used to show up on his gaming streams if not on his SJW videos so she was always around in some capacity.

Yeah colored me surprised she's got anything to do with Persona. Goons have been ragging on 4 & 5 lately since they apparently don't portray the progressive stack as immaculate angels. In 5 there are two gay dudes that creepily hit on one of the characters (who reacts negatively *gasp*), and there's a part where the guys in the party try and stare down a chick's shirt. In 4 they're bitching about the bathhouse dungeon where a character reacts negatively to his shadow's homosexual behavior.

Clearly they didn't finish the dungeon then, because the conclusion he comes to after you beat it is that his problem isn't about his sexuality, it's about his insecurity and need for acceptance by anyone.

Complaining about the main character's best friend being kinda homophobic (which isn't exactly unrealistic for a teenage) or the social link with... Yukiko, I think? Or maybe the drama club person? where the message is basically 'how dare you pursue personal happiness instead of saving the family's honor' (which is pretty fucked up but also an extremely Japanese viewpoint) are arguably justifiable, but that's not really a debate I'd want to get into here. Point being, there are things you can hit P4 for, but that's a weird one to pick.

Can't comment on P5, though. I should play that.

They don't care about the nuances of the story, they only see the surface-level behavior of a character and immediately start circle-jerking. The whole series of posts where they started ragging on P4 & 5 was just this weird 5 minutes hate. I'd see glowing praise for P4 all over the place and suddenly, because one weirdo got triggered because they saw something they didn't like it ruins the whole game and no one can recommend it without at least two others making ironic all lowercase posts that begin with "yeah but..."

With P4 there was a lot of complaining about several characters being misogynistic. Characters from Japan, which we all know is the great feminist utopia.

I thought thats who this was and why I was subscribed to them, but I looked up mynameiskaz and its a totally different kaz, who didn't go druggie homeless, but who also posts lets plays on youtube. I guess that the SA connection isn't there, whoops.

Either way yes, does anyone know if pokecapn, KungFuJesus, medibot, MyNameIsKaz, or IlluminatusVespucci have been involved in bullshit drama online?

medibot did some commentary at agdq and was gently roasted for sounding a bit exceptional, but that is it, those kids were good seeds.

Nah they always kept to themselves. There was some lighthearted shit towards forum members or other LPers but no, as far as I know they were always OK

As far as I know they basically walked off into the sunset. If any of them has made anything new within the last couple of years it would surprise the hell out of me.

They did great with the sonic games and ffxiii-2. I like to think they're just living life like grown-ups now, probably being silently cursed as nazis by voidburger's clique whenever they bother to remember the group.
