Imagine being excited to take a job that was beneath Abby Russel and Ben Pack.

To her credit - she's probably going to do exactly what Abby did, try and hangout on GB for a year or two to build her own audience and then dip out and do something else.

It's probably not surprising, but making one's own Let's Play after reading so many from the LP Archives really puts the whole process in a different light. Not only do you understand the amount of work that it takes to comprehensively chronicle dicking around on a game, but you also have to come face-to-face with the questions of "Do I really know what I think I do about this game?" and "Do I really enjoy this game?". That many of these speds managed to stay focused on something over a long period of time is commendable in a way, and not just in the "Special Olympics Gold Star everyone's-a-winner" mentality, even if it compounds the sense of loss when old LPs succumb to internet rot or when a creator goes off the deep end.

Damn that's rough. It does happen to women a lot more than most would realize and it looks even more awkward. These days there's also the worry of being mistaken for a troon because of something like that too.

I'd say she has my sympathies but that would be a bald-faced lie.

Raocow was a good LPer and a good dude. Super nice iirc.

That’s ultimately why I gave up on Bulletstorm, the game is great, and I really do enjoy it, but a good LP would show off all of the trick shots, something I just don’t have the patience or skill for. In the end, it would have been a mediocre LP at best, and I realized I just couldn’t pull it off in the way that it deserved. In that regard, it’s much easier to LP shitty games.

Apparently Raocow is from Something Awful... something great from something awful, I'd say. Used to watch his LPs a few years ago and genuinely enjoyed them. I talked with him once and he seems like a genuinely great guy who just wants to play vidya and have fun, and that's something I respect tons. I probably wouldn't find his stuff as funny since I'm old and jaded now, but I hope he's still doing business as usual, having a fun time.

Raocow is still doing his thing. Doesn't get as many views as he used to, but he's basically still keeping with the same style of humor and having a good time. Right now he's playing Donkey Kong Returns, Rayman Legends and Shadow the Hedgehog.

I don't know what Abby was like but voidburger doesn't seem like she'd have the interpersonal networking skills to parlay this GB gig into a career in media at a different corporation. She's incredibly autistic.

Abby was basically a fun/mood killer and was so awful that Giantbomb had to change their "Game of the Year" format (which had existed for like ~15 years) as a result.

Her major contribution was "Hey I play the sims but I put the people who work here inside - isn't that craaazy"

Ok so I've been out of the loop regarding GB for years now so I checked out a couple videos and...oof. What a plummet in quality. Abby is about on level with an un-monetized twitch streamer that averages a couple views per stream. It's crazy she was being paid a salary to produce this content. Maybe voidburger will fit in after all.

it's surreal and sad to read some of this stuff, since i liked some of the SA LP subforum back in the day. i'm glad most of the people i liked have disappeared. schildkrote's desert bus LP was funny back then, and they mostly talked shit about stupid LP drama and weirdos

Abby was brutally bad. You could tell right away when she would try to do improv comedy with Vinny on the beast cast. The game of the year 2017 episodes were so fucking bad that it killed Giant Bomb dead for me. She's awful.

Void being on GB just makes me sad because of how much I used to love that site. I mean, we all have websites we go to that we age out of, but even seeing the GB logo anymore just annoys me. Sad stuff.

Please get Chip to unprivate his RPs though, those ruled

Not many of the hires that came after were remarkably good. The only semi-normal people they wound up hiring over the last few years are "Video producers/editors who sometimes show up in content" like Jason and Jan.

Voidburger is 100% a "normal" GB hire, in that she's fucking terrible and doesn't belong there.

Haven't checked the others, but Voidburger had a few tweets about Rich's death. Mainly retweets from others, but she had a few tweets of her own mainly talking about when she and Rich got into it over that stream with his daughter.
