Edit: I don't remember people like slowbeef and Psych being that extreme, but apparently all of these people jumped off the rails around the time of Gamergate, which is when I kinda drifted away from talking to the LP forum because I, to a small degree, supported Gamergate (or at least the "make game journalism not complete fucking garbage" part of it) and that was anathema to the Marxist crowd.

Also the forums were fine, SA gets kind of a rep but if you don't act like a sped who loses their shit when someone says something you don't disagree with, it's pretty easy to slip through the cracks and not get banned/probated.

So Voidburger was never funny in her LPs. They were always bad. Putting aside all of the social justice shit, Voidburger is simply a bad unfunny untalented LPer, from her very first Silent Hill LP. The only advantage her early videos had is that her case of GOTIS wasn't anywhere near as bad as it got six months after she started, but that didn't make her good, just less annoying than later.

Most LPers, if you don't like them, you just ignore their threads. That was always the general rule of thumb on SA. But once Chip started replacing GI in his videos with Void (and I'm not sure what the hivemind consensus is on Ironicus but I always thought he was pretty funny in LPs), lowkey Voidburger hate took off around the LP forum. There were a LOT of people who didn't like her. When slowbeef was moderating, he wasn't the biggest fan of Voidburger either, although I think they're friends now.

The LPer who's changed the most over time, that's a good question. Keep in mind I haven't really watched any LPs in about 5 years, but it's probably slowbeef. The dude used to really not take this shit seriously at all. I read someone's post about how slowbeef used to get mad in the early RPs but honestly, he was never mad. He was playing a character for the Internet. So was I, for that matter. But once slowbeef started a Patreon and selling t-shirts with Retsupurae on it, I was like "duuuuuuuude, seriously?" Diabetus and I both made fun of him for trying to make money off of LPs.

Also, I'm gonna defend slowbeef real quick. I dunno what happened to him recently, but back around 2010 or so, he HATED the LP forum and HATED almost everyone in it and HATED moderating it. The guy was on the exact opposite of a power trip. He complained to me a bunch of times about how much he wished he could just ban all of the retards in the LP forum just for being morons. I told him he should do it, but then again that's why I was never moderator.

The only reason slowbeef stayed on as a moderator for so long was because the LP forum was so fucking terrible he didn't trust anyone else to take the position. Diabetus didn't want it and neither did I, none of the games forum moderators would touch it with a ten foot pole, and he wasn't sure if anyone else would do a good job (and he was right, they probably wouldn't have).

So I'll defend SB, at least up until 2014 or so. No clue what happened to him then, but I always thought he was a decent guy and a decent moderator back in the day.

Yeah, I never thought he was much of a cow tbh. Certainly didn't know he loathed moderating the forum, though.

Even to this day, slowbeef strikes me as a reasonable guy with occasional lapses into irrationality, as opposed to so many others in the community who are mostly unbearable with very rare lapses into sanity. Hell, he put out a really level-headed article on the Pewdiepie controversy a day or two ago while so many of his peers were howling for the guy's blood.

Short answer: Chip yes, Ironicus no.

Chip and Ironicus, in their early LPs, seemed like normal dudes who had really good chemistry together. Chip made really high quality, well edited videos, and Ironicus added the humor that Chip lacked. I loved their LPs, and pretty much everyone else did too.

Once Voidburger entered the picture, the LP quality went down. Chip and Ironicus' videos were still good, but Chip and Voidburger's videos were awful, mostly due to Voidburger having no chemistry and Chip not really having anything to work with like he did with Ironicus. I kinda stopped watching Chip and Void's videos pretty early, because she wouldn't shut up and really wasn't funny at all. And she was in more and more of the videos, and Ironicus less and less, especially after she visited his house (not sure if people have heard the rumor about her visiting Chip and making him do a Metal Gear Solid LP for her live, never got that verified but I choose to believe it because it's hilarious).

The following is more or less conjecture on my part, but I get the feeling that Chip had never really had a girlfriend before, and when Void showed interest, he did what all of us did in high school when we got our first girlfriend. He started ignoring all of his friends and spending all of his time with her. Ironicus has always struck me as a beta (I don't mean this in the MRA insult way, just in the beta personality way), and when he saw his best friend drifting away and changing his personality due to his girlfriend, he probably did too so he'd fit in. He might not have even done it consciously, I dunno. But if Ironicus is "off", I'd guess that's probably why.

I did tweet that (and I don't delete my tweets so I'm not sure what happened to it, if there was a date on it I could go back and check but I'd guess that tweet is at least 3 years old), I occasionally give slowbeef shit on Twitter. We've talked about me being a guest on that RP podcast thing a bunch of times, but I don't think slowbeef wants me on (that tweet has some degree of seriousness to it), and I don't really care that much.

I haven't talked to Diabetus in probably 5-6 years, and I haven't talked to slowbeef in about 3. We didn't have a fight or anything, it was mostly just us drifting apart.

1) I'm sure there's a lot more competitors nowadays, but in my era it was Deceased Crab, 100%. That guy was pretty much the biggest sperg I've ever seen. He would flip the fuck out in the Sandcastle and post huge rants that we would then go on to make fun of for months.
2) I don't know anything about Voidburger personally. I didn't run in that circle of LPers. I was running with the LP crew from 2006 to about 2010, she was around from about 2009-present, so we only overlapped for a short period of time.
3) The Sandcastle (the thread for making test posts for your LP so people could tell you what you needed to fix before you made your thread) was constantly full of drama. It was really the best part of that forum. Someone would make a video and be convinced it was the best thing on earth, and SA would just rip it apart*. Most people took it well but some didn't, and those were the parts where the drama exploded. A lot of people don't know that Total Biscuit posted a test LP video in the Sandcastle, and it just got ripped apart. This was around the time of his "essay on atheism" SA post, because when that wasn't received well, and his LP just got torn apart by a guy who did professional video editing for a living, he fucked off of SA forever.


*Note: I know you guys hate the "SA are the gatekeepers of LPs" mentality and I actually hate it nowadays because there's stuff on Youtube as good or better than anything SA ever did, but back in the day there was some real garbage being pumped out, like people recording their TVs with camcorders and shit, and we did have standards in so far as 1) your video needs to be technically watchable and 2) your commentary should be bringing some degree of value to the video.


edit: I should mention the Sandcastle also acted as "general LP forum discussion" thread too, so any drama in the LP forum always made its way to the Sandcastle eventually
