Let's Players originating from Something Awful - ft. VoidBurger, General Ironicus, Bob Kamoc

Some odds and ends I found while researching for the article:
Void's dubious grasp of the concept of Fair Use:

Also, Bob Kamoc posted some outtakes from his video cover letter to Polygon - mirror below:
White bearded male, problem glasses, bad hair, and a hoodie.....

Do you think the phenomenon of unbridled goon arrogance played a part there? The "only goons can do LPs because we invented it" attitude, therefore how dare a poser succeed better?

Actually, I think the fact that (as far as I know) there's nobody who's really Youtube rich and famous for ONLY doing LPs was what kept SA arrogant. PDP did Minecraft stuff that I wouldn't exactly call LPs, TotalBiscuit does game reviews, LPs are only a small part of what Game Grumps does, etc. So people on SA could write off Rooster Teeth's LP stuff by saying "Oh, well, the LP sucked, it's just people who liked Red vs. Blue who liked their LPs".

Even though that shit was patently false and anyone with a modicum of self-awareness could tell that guys who have professional video setups and make actual money from actual companies making actual professional videos enjoyed by millions would just naturally be better than some mouth-breathing moron in their mom's basement.

So they fell back on "we do it right because we're true to our roots"? Like a hipster who mocks Miller Lite drinkers because they can't appreciate his quality microbrews, sounds like?

I was never a goon, but I followed LPs enough to know there was definitely an attitude that you should be doing it for the fun of it, and anyone trying to monetize was pathetic for trying to monetize what very obviously couldn't be a career. I also remember noticing the sudden switch.

Lol, those pathetic multi-millionaires. How autistic of them! SA is so far above that lame fame and fortune thing.

They sure look like a bunch of brain donors now lol.

To be fair, failing to successfully cash in on being an Internet fad has been a running theme of SA for over a decade now. No reason LPers shouldn't follow along in the grand tradition.

I was looking at it the other way: yes, people like pewdiepie became millionaires, but he won the lottery. It's still absurd to "plan" to make it big off of being a youtube star; what makes it pathetic is these manchildren want it specifically because they think it's an easy alternative to actual real work (who wants to be a rat-race fucker?) So I defend the position that if you're going to do it, just have fun with it, and support yourself like a normal adult - particularly if you want to be respected like one.

Void complains about "harassment" once again:

Void also gets needlessly paranoid:

& once again misidentifies the reason people dislike her:

It really is. YouTube doesn't have any transferable skills, no benefits and you are reliant on YouTube, which is never afraid to throw its creators under the bus. Same with Twitch.

Not to mention what are they going to do in their 40s, 50s and 60s? YouTube's demos generally skew to the younger side. What happens when the views drop off and all you've been doing is YouTube for a decade plus? It seems like a huge risk, especially with gaming.

You're forgetting the most important part about being a professional public performer; not being so insufferable and unlikable to the point where half the people who bother to watch you hate your guts.

Sadly all the good comments have been mysteriously erased! Think she's reading this as it goes on? Hi VB!

This is the most common result when people actually nail it and she has no response, she just pretends it never happened or uses what little internet powers she has to hide from reality. You can't hide from life forever, as everyone here is pointing out.

On one hand I'm pretty sure she just deletes "harassing" comments on the regular, but on the other hand she did (apparently) delete her personal Facebook very shortly after it was brought up here. It could go either way.

If she does know, I'm surprised she's held out this long without tweeting anything about it.

Voidburger is just as sly and scummy as any other person who has a lolcow thread. It's the classic hallmarks of a manipulator.

If she isnt reading the thread herself, she's got someone reading it for her. I dont know which she would do, because on one hand I doubt she has the fortitude to stay away on her own, but on the other, I dont think people are trolling for Voidburger diss shit because she's not that big of a personality. There are less influential and important people who have managed to attain status through youtube, who people care about more. She's the Darksidephil of SA Lets Play Superstars. She's clinging on to ChipCheezum to ride to superstar fame, but he's not really going anywhere, outside of SA, and neither is Voidburger. He realized it, and got a real job, she'd rather stay famous for being a girl in the boy's club. I've said it over and over in this thread but SA's hugbox nature, their fucking border walls, are the biggest detriment to them. She isnt the only girl let's player but she's about 1 in 15 of them.

She loves to be made fun of because when she's a victim, she gets positive attention. Classic fucked-up-person behavior, regardless of why it happens.
