Let's Players originating from Something Awful - ft. VoidBurger, General Ironicus, Bob Kamoc

i Edited my last post but ill extrapolate more here Chip currently isnt that busy as far as i cant tell he did have a crunch period but that was around febuary to april which he mentioned on his patreon in march.
At the moment he is working on his next LP but is recording footage for Metal gear solid 5 which is taking a long time because he is basically recording 3 different play styles for each level and knowing chip, he could be recording each of those runs multiple times to get the best one. He is doing something but its impossible to tell how much he has done, how much he is planning to record before starting and how long that process will take.
I dont have a real problem with how he's dealing with it if they were using my proposed system chip wouldnt of been penalized just freom the stand point of an investor it seems like a really bad investment. There is nothing to show for what is for most people a considerable amount of money and no sign of when there will be a return, there might be more information on twitter but because he only uses one twitter account theres no way to just get upadates on whats happening with the videos without going through months of trash and retweets.

As far as patreon theres a reason i never said to remove peoples accounts and allow both accounts and the patrons themselves to switch to an account that is purely to support the creator live which you may or may not get content for, as long as the consumers consent that that is what there money is going to its fine. I'll give a few examples of accounts and how i would judge them.
Chip: he would be fine he has said why he's not creating content within a reasonable time frame but i would just suggest he updates the goals to be more realistic.
Cosmo/narcissa wright: There account would be fine their stated goal is to survive it doesnt matter that he is creating content as long as he is not dead he's doing exactly his goal.
Brianna wu: it clearly says she will spend most of her time on twitter with the rest maybe being spent on making games so they're fine.
Shmorky: just wouldnt be making any money with no posts and an apparent suicide letter the account should probably be shut down but would at least not be taking anyones money anymore..

Also it's always so awkward when she'll bring up how youtube comments/whoever doesn't like her. Why am I hearing about this? This isn't funny or interesting. I'm not leaving negative comments on the video. I just want to watch people play video games cause I'm a loser.
And you just explained why the capitalism these people hate so much can't be beat. The entertainment you consume is supposed to be entertaining to you, not a burden you're obligated to shoulder because you have too many privilege points.

Chip is also still making $1100/month even though he hasnt regularly uploaded for 5 months his weakly stream has happened 3 times in the last couple of months(which is far above average) so hes basically got 5.5 grand for doing nothing
Regarding the Patreon stuff. While I agree that it's bullshit creators get paid money for doing nothing, it really isn't Patreon's fault.
I like Chip but I find him unprofessional when it comes to patreon. He'd go a long way to make up for it if he removed "these twice weekly updates were made possible by patreon" from his front page. His current slip aside (and I know he specifically stated he wanted to wait til recording phantom pain was mostly done so he could release episodes closer together, for what it's worth), I've followed him for years and as far as I can tell his schedule never increased at all after instituting his patreon goals, let alone has he ever approached twice weekly updates. If you're making real money from something, treat it like a real profession.

All that said, none of this is patreon's fault, it's the customers - if the goals you're paying for aren't being met then you're being taken for a ride and you should stop paying, simple as that. A vendor who takes your payment but doesn't give you what he promised doesn't respect you. (Yet another argument for capitalism.)

I guess I just associate these people with the same ones on SA saying capitalism is terrible and fuck rich people and privilege, yet they all manage to spend money on this and video games. I guess they aren't the same people.

Hey man, don't knock their dream of living a beautiful communist society where they get sweet Politburo points for smashing out a LP of old adventure games made in the 80's. The commissar love it when you do some Silent Hill 2 speed runs on youtubes.

People going "Maybe Void got better recently" are waaay too optimistic.
This is the same person that, after harassing some Lebanese lady (who called her out on her ratrace bullshit), and getting owned by said lady (who nearly self-doxed with a picture of herself, her passport and a note saying "Fuck you Voidburger"), decided that the black middle eastern woman was actually an alt-right plot to gaslight and bring her down. And to obviously prove how real this conspiracy against her is, she shut down all her ask accounts and never opened them again.
But hey, someone who thinks "THE ALTRIGHT" is behind everyone who dislikes her is sure to be very sane and well adjusted and improving their mental health.
It always amazes me how much money these patreon supporters/twitch subscribers have to blow. How can you give money to someone who almost never delivers the promised content? How many people subscribe to a bunch of twitch channels? What was the name of the guy who donated like a $1000 dollars on slowbeefs stream? Frankly, I wish I had that much money to flush down the toilet.
Probait. And it wasn't just slowbeef, he went all around the SA LPers, giving them thousands of dollars, and also on Patreon for a month or two. Expand this graph to all-time and this and look at the ridiculous $2000 jump around Christmas 2016 that continues to around May. He also dropped $7000 and $10000 on MaximillianDood (FGC streamer) and $5000 to help move some TeamFourStar (DBZ Abridged) guy to Texas.
Whoever this guy is, he has money to burn. But it seems most was burnt by the end of this Spring at least if his Patreon donations and lack of recent donations are anything to go by.

People going "Maybe Void got better recently"
I don't see how anyone could reasonably think that, given that her crazy political freak-outs on twitter have gotten more regular since Trump was elected.

Speaking of VoidBurger twitter bullshit, she recently retweeted the English translator for a bunch of classic games wanting to punch "red pill jackasses polluting the game world" in the neck:

Gosh, a jobless has-been making physical threats. And a pretty fucking old one at that if his profile picture is recent. Very threatening. As a reminder, Blaustein here was fired/demoted and replaced by Scott Dolph, Kojima's personal translator and the guy who worked on MGS2/3.

It always amazes me what an inflated feeling of self worth some people in video games have. Especially when clinging on to past glories like this. Translators are a dime a dozen these days, skilled ones at that. And the unskilled ones stand out pretty badly, especially the ones that love antagonizing their audiences.
So the only accomplishments to brag about here is being the right gaijin in the right place at the right time.

If he has no time to work on his LPs he should just put the Patreon on hold (yes, that's an option) instead of billing people for nothing unless they pull out. Or charge them for content instead of monthly. Plenty of ways to do this right, he just knows he can get away with squeezing some more money out of his fans.

For the record, I do agree with you, and this is why I would never think to support Chip on Patreon. I just disagree with people blaming Patreon for it, when it is Chip's fault for leaving the Patreon up with the promise of X videos per month or whatever it is, and also the fault of all the supporters that continue to support him despite him not being able to keep up his schedule.

I'll give Chip credit for at least mentioning it in a video, but he should have been upfront about it in his Patreon as well. If people still want to support him knowing that he won't be uploading content for awhile, that's on them. And realistically, people do realize that since I would be surprised if they were patreons but didn't watch his videos, but eh, it could happen if there was a series they were really uninterested in, or avoiding because they were playing the game or something. It is unprofessional not to at least make an update to reflect that.

With Chip's situation too, it also looks a little shady because unless I'm mistaken, the patreon is for both him and Ironicus. So even if Chip is busy with crunch time, you'd think Ironicus could try and pick up the slack. Even if he's not releasing full on LP's, he could be doing something while they're taking in money.

It reminds me of this one time I stopped going in to work for a while. I knew they must have wondered where I was, so a few weeks after I stopped I called and left a voicemail telling them I was busy working on some projects. I don't think I got a response, can't really remember, but I didn't have to think about it because they kept mailing me paychecks anyway.

Oh wait that didn't happen because grown-ups are required to treat jobs as jobs and earn the money they get. It's not Patreon's fault but really it's fucking obnoxious the way some creators abuse their fans' trust and doubly so the way said fans roll over and allow it. Like I said I like Chip's content, enough maybe I'd consider throwing him a one-time donation for all the past entertainment but I'd never sign up for a regular payout.

Oh look, it's Jeremy Blaustein; the cuck that practically got fired after localizing Metal Gear Solid 1 because he wanted to "Americanize" Kojima's writing. Lord knows it needed that Western edge to it, otherwise nano machines would make no fucking sense. I'm surprised Void would associate with him, given some of his derogatory comments towards the Silent Hill fanbase. :autism:

Ok, here's a genuine question: has Ironicus ever contributed anything to an LP that wasn't color commentary to balance out Chip?
Like, does he have Chip's gameplay skills? The editing skills? At least a video setup so he can stream?
Something tells me no. He has board games I guess? (REMEMBER DON'T BUY 5TH EDITION GUYS)
I think the most he does in his off time is some podcast with his wife praising Chicago or something?

Silent Hill is that one series the attracts the most exceptional of people more than any other. No idea why, as the themes of all the games are pretty fucking far removed from anything anyone's gone through. Unless Void has been impregnated with a demon god or killed a terminally ill former lover and forgot about it, that is.

Other than his screenshot LP of You Testament, I've not seen him do anything solo.

For the Watch_Dogs LP, Ironicus did a couple of History of Chicago videos... that he only wrote and narrated and had Chip set to photos and editing and ish, and which he promised to release in tandem with LP parts only to drop it after releasing like two of them. So basically, he puts in the minimal effort to be a contributor.

I kinda enjoy his color commentary, though. Him and Chip seem to have a really good rapport.

So this post isn't about a particularly noteworthy lolcow who I'm not even sure posts on SA but it was just too funny not to share.
One of slowbeef's Twitch mods is a lowkey SJW by the name of Meowtroid. Meowtroid here has been streaming Persona 3.
Slowbeef was streaming a bad beat 'em up when suddenly in comes Meowtroid ranting about something:

2 - Copy.png

To recap: Meowtroid here is abandoning a 40 hour playthrough because of the main character's name, ranting about having to take medication because of this and that the only trustworthy friends to have are slowbeef's Twitch chat.
Some of you may have figured out what's going on but I looked up the Twitch channel and yes, the main character was named Nick (crossover with SJW thread, details here). And Meowtroid now has dozens upon dozens of tweets about "soft boys" and "not all soft boys".
Slowbeef sure knows how to pick 'em :autism:.

Those were actually pretty interesting, though. I was kinda disappointed he couldn't be bothered to do more.

On a similar note I still think videos slowbeef and Diabeetus do together tend to be pretty funny but slowbeef on his own tend to be pretty boring, or ones with some of his twitch sycophants are just unbearable.

The minecraft ripoff videos and some of the kickstarter videos being exceptions.

I love how people seem to be practically ignoring this Meowtroid's whining. When you mod a community that isn't terribly responsive, you've made a mistake somewhere.

"MAN MY DAY SUCKED! IT WAS REAL BAD! I DONT WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT THOUGH KNOW WHAT IM SAYING"

*crickets*

That's so pathetic I almost feel bad.
