LGR / Lazy Game Reviews Appreciation Thread - Greetings and welcome to another Kiwi Farms thread.

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
LGR foods was a pretty awesome channel, and it got me to try to go outside the box, regarding sandwiches. They're good videos to watch while you eat, too.
I used to watch Thrifts videos while eating, right up until that episode where he found what appears to be a pile of pubic hair on a shelf.

Which is surprising too given that he definitely rubs me off as a left-winger and I think he has given left-wing takes on twitter, but surprisingly he's managed to stay quiet about it in his videos. I did see that Not just bikes faggot in a comment section for a review of some robot toy that he made a few months back but I haven't seen him since, and that was just a comment.
I disagree. He doesn't care, or if he is political he's centrist or center right. Right wingers and left wingers have to shout their opinions from the rooftops and browbeat you 24/7. Another point of comparison is 8 bit guy. He keeps politics out of his videos and does retro computer stuff, but was once spotted in the wild posing with a AR15 and lefties got mad over it.

Cozy channel, wish he'd upload more tbh.
Any other similar channels that don't suck? Shocking how adjacent to troonery these sort of channels are
I have a strange suggestion. ZakuAurelius does Gunpla reviews. He's rarely critical, but is generally pretty chill. He fills the "something cozy to watch while eating" niche pretty well.

For retro game review though. Snes Drunk is always a favourite.

Yeah I don't know what I am saying. Sometimes I type out what i'm thinking sometimes.

LGR was the sole reason why I love computer hardware in general and the development stories behind how software or hardware came to be.

My favorite video of his is the one where he builds the Woodgrain 486 machine. I also really liked the Macintosh Voodoo GPU video. LGR, 8-bit Guy and others are the reason why I love retro machines. Modern machines don’t have that story, it feels boring compared to the computing stories of the yesterday years.

During the summer of love he made some tweets sperging about racists
I stopped watching him after that. Hearing him support terrorism just completely shattered the Wholesome Southerner Nerd persona for me and I couldn't glue it back together.

I'm exceptionally sensitive to that sort of thing though. Maybe not sperg-level where I have to write a manifesto on /b/ about how LGR is a woke soy golem who cuckmaxxed youtube by being a race traitor beta, but certainly more than most. I stopped watching Doug Walker after the Channel Awesome drama too, not because of the allegations themselves but because learning that everyone hated each other just took away the fun.

I'm a very strong proponent of entertainers shutting the fuck up and keeping the magic alive for as long as possible.

For Millenials LGR is kind of a callback to a different era. He has really wholesome content, he's knowledgeable about what he's speaking about, has fun anecdotes from his own past, and has a great voice. There are still a few guys that have the combination of passion and talent. It seems like such a rarity now, everyone is just this soulless grifter.

It's """Influencers""". Everything is the most soulless lowest common denominator slop designed to cater to the YouTube algorithm to retain watch time rather than actual things people enjoy.

The vast majority of content on the nu-Internet is designed for monetization. It isn't done out of passion, or interests, or as a hobby anymore. It's simply done for money. I can't stand 90% of content anymore, it's enough to drive me insane. I don't know who the fuck these people are watching it either. Many such cases.

A bit off topic, but I never got the hate for 8 bit guy. Kind of the same reason. He seems passionate about the subject, so much so that he's trying to make his own modern c64 clone with off-the-shelf modern parts. Yet he gets shit on outside his channel. There's the gun tweet I mentioned. There's the claim that his videos are "show-and-tell", whatever that means. There's complaints about his restoration jobs, but I'm not sure what people want.

I looked through his tweets from 2020, and all I could find this is thread.

I'd rate on the low-end of the sperging out scale. And unless there's some deleted tweets, or others I missed, he seemed to go straight back to prolifically tweeting about retro computing. All in all, given the high-quality content he puts out, a very occasional lapse in judgement is forgivable.

Alexey Morozov's channel is good if you're interested in old Soviet electronics.
DiodeGoneWild is from Czechia and does lots of videos on old Soviet electronics as well as teardowns of dubious USB chargers, weird DIY projects and fucking with shit he found on the side of the road. Super cool guy and extremely knowledgeable.

Also kinda based
