LGR / Lazy Game Reviews Appreciation Thread - Greetings and welcome to another Kiwi Farms thread.

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I looked through his tweets from 2020, and all

I'd rate on the low-end of the sperging out scale. And unless there's some deleted tweets, or others I missed, he seemed to go straight back to prolifically tweeting about retro computing. All in all, given the high-quality content he puts out, a very occasional lapse in judgement is forgivable.
There was some patreon update video where he explicitly says yes to trans rights and bitches about the bathrooms for a bit. Still his public facing videos are quite enjoyable and entertaining.
I loved the DKC2 review with the robot voice when he was sick

edit: Found the clip (40:12, is there a way to timestamp in an embed?)

Well, he's no 8-Bit Guy, lmao. People are entitled to their own opinions. The problem arises when it's all they ever talk about and it consumes their content. Don't think in any LGR videos I've watched there's ever been any political discussion.

Also note in the timestamp you've provided, he's responding to questions people ask.

Said it before but I just don't have respect for the guy because of how limited his maintenace abilities actually are. Guys like Adrian plowing through diagnostics on old computers made it look easy enough I wound up repairing a Classic II that was cap bombed across both boards using his videos as a guide, meanwhile the TRS-80 that LGR bought to repair has sat in a storage space for half a decade or more and that is leagues easier to diagnose and probe that surface mount era PCBs. Woodgrain and a Dick Kickem impression don't cut it for me, I like people that know enough about their electronics they can revive them too.

That's fair, but I guess then there's a YouTuber for every level of autism. You can watch someone slave over a board that looks like it was bathed in battery acid, replacing cut traces and finding endless blown tantalums, or you can watch a calm video where a guy explores a mostly working relic that he found rotting away in a thrift store.

Personally I love LGR's Sims and Sim City content as it's something I relate to a lot as someone who absolutely loved those games as a kid.

Click the "share" button, start at timestamp, paste that into the media box. It removes the tracking part of the link for you. There are other ways, but that's the easiest if you're embedding on KF.

I used to like the guy when he was reviewing obscure DOS games and doing those documentaries about how the IRS still uses punch card technology, but "WHOA LOOK AT THIS WACKY 00's trinket" rarely ever does anything for me.
At least he actually uses the stuff he makes. A lot of retro YouTubers, arguabley most, don't use and barely seem to care about the tech they collect beyond the money value and having it in the background. MetalJesusRocks was mentioned earlier and he's a great example of this. He seems to rate a games quality by how much it gets scalped for Ebay. Granted, a lot of old tech is basically useless. You're not going to use a Dos computer for productivity tasks. But at least he builds his woodgrain PC then runs games and software on it.

As for Dos reviews. Yeah, I miss that he doesn't review obscure games and software much any more. There's a channel Awesome Dos Games that does that these days.

Now that I think about it, LGR as a channel is in a weird place. It's not a dead legacy channel like Spoony, but it's also not changed with the times like JonTron and PewDiePie, yet he isn't doing the same thing he always has like Linkara.

The virgin moan
>responds to youtube critism by hiding behind muppets
>shaves hair short and grows a beard to cope with baldness
>will do everything in his power to repair a device to appease his audience
>only implied that he's married, never shows his wife or kids on video (if he has them)
>bonglander, so probably can't legally defend himself even if he has knoife loicenses up to date
>whinges about /g/, but only behind the privacy of his patreon page

The L.V.R.
>started off channel as an AVGN clone on Nyquil
>tried and failed to get viewers to stop sending him stuff in packing peanuts, now laughs it off as some sort of in-joke
>grows beard to hide the fact that he's balding
>pudgy from diet consisting of sandwiches and ramen
>failed to score with a tubby, female literally-who youtuber
>has probably never given a scathing bad review of anything
>can barely program BASIC
>plays two childhood games to demonstrate old computers
>can't solder
>has to double-check Wiki to make scripts for videos

vs.
The 8-Bit CHAD
>sells donations from simp viewers and pockets cash
>explicitly chews out viewers that send him stuff he already has or can't use
>doesn't waste screen time reading sentimental notes from subscribers
>balding and invents his own posture, doesn't give a flying fuck what you think
>stays fit by jogging and biking while wearing whatever the fuck he wants
>writes his own three games in assembly to demonstrate old computers (and sells copies of them because he can)
>expresses his 2nd amendment rights just to make libshits seethe
>can wire up his house and shed with electrical and network cable permits or not, doesn't give a shit if it burns down
>destroys rare retrocomputer because he'll get views anyway, isn't concerned what the retro community thinks of him
>has a wife and daughter, obvious that he's had sex

I love Ancient Dos Games, though I'm not as big on his recent projects (I was mostly bored of his first playthrus of random Commodore 64 games).

LGR... I was a huge fan, and kinda stayed with him when he transitioned to being more about tech than about game reviewing, but these days I sometimes wish he would go back to game reviewing and review something that isn't Sims related or isn't just a re-review of something he's already talked about.

Sad to hear about the tree though. I predict that's gonna be not just the end of Unboxings but probably the end of the channel, another titan gone as the world slides into shit.

I remember wayyyy back in like 2010-11 he had videos on his channel of him at his local sportscar enthusiast meetups walking around and commenting on the cars he sees. Pretty sure they're long gone now, but id be interested if someone actually held onto a copy.

I completely agree
That's fair, but I guess then there's a YouTuber for every level of autism.
He doesn’t need to document his maintenance for the channel, since it’s pretty clear what his channel’s purpose is. But he should be able to be a good steward of the museum pieces he collects, rather than a glorified tech tourist.

All he does now is react to old videos and shows and review shitty chinkware. I understand a good portion of his collection was destroyed by the hurricane, but it doesn't change the fact that his more recent videos are shitty slogs and an uninformative waste of time. Michael MJD outclasses him in every way.
