Linus Gabriel Sebastian & Linus Media Group / Linus Tech Tips - Narcissistic corporate shill YouTuber driving his media empire into the ground. KILL COUNT: 2

He’s not a scientist, he’s not a researcher, he’s a basic bitch youtuber who pretends to be superior because he’s an “analyst” which is a job so unimpressive that’s even Anita Sarkesian could do it. Especially in the tech and engineering field where the majority of the innovators did not have such degrees.
He is actually a scholar though, he’s been published and cited.
You don’t have to respect him, but pretending he’s just some random journo scum is kind of silly when it’s so easy to prove that he has actually put in the work to learn this stuff. Yeah he’s an analyst, but in the sense of someone who can use microwave electrochemistry to actually analyse silicon on the level of individual gates. It may deserve its own job title since “analyst” by itself also describes people who basically only write opinion pieces in rags, but that’s just English. You can also see this in his interviews with engineers, he understands their explanations and asks relevant questions rather than just gush about how cool it is that processors are made with lasers like Linus would.

Not respecting people with a doctorate has nothing to do with “anti-intellectualism.” Though the assumption that obtaining a doctorate makes someone an intellectual is in itself a sign that you are the type to be told what to think more than you are to come up with your own conclusions and ideas.
Pol Pot was right about academics.

Calling him doctor when he’s talking about tech or his professional career is relevant, I think you’ve just succumbed to the US culture of anti-intellectualism.
Not entirely true, my brother wife is doing Doctorade in AI assisted chemistry. Her area is chemistry and not AI.

One thing she tells us, is that her tells us is that Masters and Doctorade narrows your knowledge a lot, where you knows a lot of an small area of a subject but not a lot about other inside the same Area. For example, she knows a lot about of organic chemistry but she doesn't know a lot about inorganic like hydrocarbonets chemistry and even in her area when she deals with things outside her area of research.

I don't disagree that Ian is very smart and a top dog in his area but he isn't infallible how you're making it to look. That kind of mindset is what lead a lot of the vaccines problems during the pandemics.

You shouldn't blindly trust in anyone, even someome with a hundred of doctorade degree in some area, because if he's right or wrong a good doctor would explain you why and change your mind, not use the "I'm a doctor and you don't".

Moviebob is also published and cited. My point still stands.

If he puts out videos acting like random journo scum, then he is rand journo scum, he’s the literal version of that joke from the critic where Jay is being used as a ventriloquist dummy and says “I have a PhD in film you know.”

Knowledge does not equate intelligence.

I’m Sorry I don’t respect your favorite YouTube man

100%. I’m not saying “blindly trust everything Ian says because he’s a doctor, the science is settled”, just that when it comes to a dispute in technology reviews between Dr. Ian Cutress and GamersNexus, I’m probably going to side with Cutress. Not automatically because he has a DPhil, of course, but simply because he’s got a lot more experience on the journalistic side of this work (11 years as senior editor at a major tech review publication). That he has the credentials to back him up on the technical side is kind of an aside here. Yeah a doctorate is kind of narrow, but he got a master’s degree in nanotech and chemistry before that, so it’s not exactly like he only specifically studied electrochemical analysis either. He has a better understanding of silicon manufacturing process than people like Linus or GamersNexus, simply. That doesn’t preclude them putting out better videos on the topic than Dr. Cutress could, but it probably does mean they’d need a ghostwriter to put together most of the script, while Cutress may only need someone with more recent experience in the industry to review it before filming. The more the presenter himself knows about the subject, the less likely errors are to sneak in.

This is why I like the video, he outlines that GamersNexus really has no idea what he’s talking about most of the time because he’s never actually worked in journalism, he’s just a hobbyist who made a name for himself, and the standards he keeps himself to, good as they may be, are not what the industry is really like.
Having "industry experience" in journalism isn't really a point that brings a lot of weight given the current state of journalism. There's a reason why we all still use "mainstream media" as a pejorative because 90% of articles written are done haphazardly and frequently contain many inaccuracies and/or obvious biases (for non editorials). With microblogging thanks to Twitter and Substack, journalism is much more democratized so using the "industry practices" argument is rather outdated and irrelevant. The only industry practice that should remain is journalistic integrity and that's an increasingly rare thing.

Agree with everything but ngl. I don't think he's a good presenter but he's a great writer, I liked more his written articles at anadtech than his videos on tech potato
Yeah, definitely. His scripts are great but he stumbles over words all the time.

But I’d still rather watch him stuttering and pausing to read the teleprompter than shrill Linus making dumb jokes or monotone GamersNexus autistically reciting the same graphs he’s showing in the visuals. He’s got a voice I can stand to listen to.

We call medical doctors doctors outside of the hospital/clinic because they save lives and may need to do so at a moment's notice.
He’s allegedly married, but how any woman would marry such an insufferable douche bag, even in Canada, is beyond me
Women marry questionable dudes all the fucking time (probably not most of the time but often enough to notice), including those with a history of violence. I know of such a couple, coincidentally, also residing in Canada. Although it does seem he's grown out of his violent phase.

It certainly seems like a very weird point to bring up in a time where established media at best has the trust of 50% of the population. I don't think having journalism experience is going to make your YouTube channel more trustworthy.

Plus, the only thing industry experience teaches you is how to rephrase articles someone else already wrote. That's 90% of the work.

The ltt subreddit is so volotile a couple of days ago they were willing to call James (the smarmy faggot) a sexpest cause he liked Jordan Petersson while now they are going at Madison.

Most people seem to think that she is talking about Naomi Woods.

Player Three has entered the game!

Dr. Ian Cutress, a veteran hardware reviewer from Anandtech and overall clever and well connected computer nerd, gives his take on Linus and GamersNexus. Good points and basically summarises my views on the matter. It’s literally a video essay, so maybe a bit dry.
Incredibly weak video that comes across as highly emotional and has already has lost me in the ground rules. Its one of those videos you have to pause every so often to say what.. is that really what you are arguing?! It would take hours to breakdown and reply to. So instead Im gonna piss in the well!
He has close ties to LTT. There are years of tweets of him being a reply girl to the LTT twitter and he is on speaking basis not only with Linus but with the CEO aswell:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtG9I3mZlJo Linus knew of him quitting his job and DR Ian made a meme of him going to work at LTT.

That explains the video.

Different people. Doubtful Naomi Woods would have had much issue with a hotel room shoot. :)

Anyways, that whole accussation going by the reddit thread has very little to no substance. In isolation that doesn't prove anything. I would be more concerned if Linus pulled stunt like this regularily but there seems no evidence for that. So my money is on misunderstanding at this point.

Using the title 'Dr' constantly is such an insufferable flex and always makes me cringe when I hear him referred to by other people as Dr Ian Cutress. At most call him Ian Cutress or just plain fucking Ian if we know who you're talking about.
I like to remind people like this that there is a reason A students usually end up being managed by C students.

James is a commie socialist, he probably only reads Peterson to "know your enemy" his own words in his LTT Intel Upgrade video (link, it's at 6:20). He's one of those Hasan Piker/Vaush intellectual dudebros who know how to be edgy (lol) but no one else is capable of such power.
I was gonna trash him for being peterson fans by saying they're midwits with basic pattern recognition, but will downgrade than to say that he is actually a certified retarded faggot.
