There's plenty of retard proof installs, all you need to be able to do is flash a bootable USB stick. There's retard proof tools to do that as well. As far as games go, Lutris makes it retard proof as there's 1-click scripts to install shit from the app. The last time I had a problem running a game on Linux was like 10 years ago.
the only time i have listened to linus was when he was testing old components. a xeon 1246 with a 590 is a ok machine. also that 3200hrz ram is all you need for everyday use including gaming
