Linus Gabriel Sebastian & Linus Media Group / Linus Tech Tips - Narcissistic corporate shill YouTuber driving his media empire into the ground. KILL COUNT: 2

  • 🔧 Actively working on site again.
Linus hasn't quite caught up with yet is that you're supposed to do that with the employees you pay, not your competitors. Rookie mistake, of course.
Hit the nail on the head. What are his dozens of employees and gazlillion dollar lab contributing to his content? He's like one of the fuckers in school who'll always say he's busy studying but never scores well in tests.

I wouldn't be surprised if he has a hat of 2-day video ideas and just pulls out random ones when the sponsor is finalized. Every tech channel runs sponsors on every video now but Lumix is the only guy that looks like he gets a sponsor and creates a video to run it rather than make a video first and try to get a sponsor for it.

Sponsored upgrades for their workstations. 2021 top of the line is just impossible to use these days, gotta grift for 2025 with a 5080 & 9950X.
90% of this guys content is continually upgrading his equipment and chasing a carrot on a stick. Why should anyone care what his workstations are running? Has the quality of his videos changed with every computing advancement?
It's shocking that people still watch this stuff. Linus's personal problems aside, it's just BORING. Absolutely nothing of worth.

Linus reads stuff off a script and he still can't get it right.

Ok, that's the only instance of competence I've ever seen out of him and he outdid Anthony there but long-term, Anthony still seems more composed than Linus most of the time.

Intelligence wise, I guess it has to be a tie between the two at worst.
Yeah, the guy that turned into a tranny sure is composed.

I really don't get the Anthony glazers in this thread. He installed Linux, so what? These days it's not much different then Windows where you can spam next and end up at the login screen.

I get it. You had high hopes for the fat tranny to turn out normal, but he's not and never will be. Let it go and realize he was always as bad as the rest of them.

These days? It's been like that for 20 years(probably longer if I think back to dual boots tinkering around with it and windows 2000 ages ago) with mainstream distros.

That's how it was when I dualbooted to fedora core 2 waaayyy back in the day.
But then I couldn't figure out how to get graphics drivers installed because I couldn't just double click install them so after a while I just said fuck it and stopped bothering with linux.
The juice isn't worth the squeeze for me.

He's the Mr Beast of tech. The spectacle and mindless consumerism is the point. His fans oogle at the idea of him buying $5000 workstations every 2 years because they could never afford it. Even the lab itself is just spectacle it's something for Linus to say he's spending a lot of money on and the content is just the fact he spent a lot of money. Anyway this is after Linus had a big fit over how anti consumer Nvidia is and how we need to vote with our wallets.

Looks like LTT is planning on talking about the melting cable issues, i'm sure they will provide useful information and not just read reddit threads or reference other articles.

Currently linus is using some fancy imaging while basically regurgitating what buildzoid has already said.
You hit the nail on the head. This was a completely insufferable WAN Show, they're getting worse and worse. He mostly just read headlines and reddit posts relating to the issue. There was a little bit of substantiative information he discussed on why it's happening, but nothing you couldn't find anywhere else.

They barely talked about tech news the entire show. Almost all of it was about the Yacht he wants to buy, house pricing, property value, how much he likes Smash Champs, his plans for Smash Champs, merch you can buy, etc. So fucking boring, it's all nontent. Remarkably the MKBHD podcast has gotten far more informative these days while the WAN Show circles the drain.

As somebody who's been watching WAN Show weekly for like 8 years now, it's worse than it's ever been. And don't judge me for listening so long, it's background filler while I'm at the gym or doing chores.

I've also listen to WAN as filler for 5+ years, but the last few weeks I've started up have annoyed me enough that I click off.

My prior gripe with the show was that Luke had become 100% disinterested with even being there, he'd sit on his phone reading Floatplane chats from his work 'friends' and gave no opinions about any of the topics. Linus + Dan could do a decent job of being interesting to carry the show.

Now though it feels like Dan's been told to participate less, and is on perpetual merch message bitch duty. And Linus seems determined to either produce 'clippable' moments for his 9th offshoot youtube channel or just argue with no one about how he's smarter than them and his opinion/prediction/observation was the smartest take they've ever heard.
The only small positive is that the number of worthless/repeat merch messages have dropped off a lot, likely related to the number of overall messages being fairly low when there's not a big sale going on.

And a minor thing, it's rubbed me the wrong way for years that Linus' official position is it's not cost effective for him to provide timestamps for their podcast, so they rely on random viewers to do it, many of whom overtime stop watching because the content has gotten shit.

Just how badly they pay their interns that they cannot afford to have one watch through it and note these down?

Linus is just too cheap for his own good. Can't spend marginal amount of work time for anything...

Even Jayztwocents is doing a better job of covering the melting cable issue, (no shade on Jay, he admits he is far from an expert on these matters) by at least testing his theory that part of the problem is that each individual wire in the "12V-2x6 (H++)" cables are not load being load balanced properly, with some wires going over their rated spec and some being way under.

Plus, he pointed out something that nobody else has really mentioned yet, in that the cable manufacturers might be cheaping out in some instances and going outside of spec and tolerances of the actual connectors.

I'm not Tanthony glazing and I don't think most other people are either.

Basically its this: what makes this blue-moon troon who barely talks about anything on the internet worthy of discussion in a thread about his narcissistic incompetent ADHD cheapskate boss?

Man, imagine if they had like a full lab full of equipment they could use to disassemble a 5090FE and look at the connectors (where people suspect the issue partly lies), the board or the fact that the 12vhpwr cable is only rated for 30 installations and that may have caused debauer's cable to pull 25 amps per wire. They could even name it something that rolls off the tongue like LTTLabs! Sebastian here is a huge consumer advocate after all, he could really put the pressure on Nvidia with his huge platform!
Sadly, he's too busy with supercooling his home server with sewage water from his own toilet :(

It's probably a combination of this and the connector on the 5090FE just being straight up shit, I've seen mentions of how flimsy the connector is and that it's possible that the pins inside the connector get jostled and don't make a full contact with the pins. But this is all 2nd hand information that I've pieced together, I guess someone like GN will make a proper, full teardown of the issue.
Hopefully Nvidia's teeth does get kicked in by media coverage (but this is 🌈 on my part, since paid shills are out in droves), but it does seem like this issue will be "fixed up" by partners just having better designed cards and/or having their own load balancing solutions in the cards like ASUS's Astral cards.

With how he keeps spending money on upgrades I wonder if Linus still has the guy they hired to be full time systems person (IT maintenance guy). It was even brought up on a WAN show months ago where Luke, being brought back to CTO or whatever and no longer just doing Floatplane, was visibly upset with how there's no one to actually be the point man for fixing and upgrading computers and was clearly annoyed with the gay little things Jake was doing where you have all these systems being put in place on the company dime for him to toy with. Luke specifically talked about how despite having a dedicated part list for company computers nothing was in stock or parts weren't ordered for inventory.

I don't really see how there's any content in the load balancing thing. You either have a rudimentary understanding of how electrical flow works and get it or you do not. The connector design may be partly at fault in terms of causing loose connections, but unbalanced 8 pins would also melt. Especially if you use those daisy chained ones. The core problem is that you have half a dozen to a dozen low rated wires working in parallel that are unbalanced and the connector doesn't really change that.

The wires are fine, especially considering their length. The connectors themselves are melting and there is just one reason for it to happen which is uneven resistance, aka poor connection.

This whole 12VHPWR discussion that's been going on since it came out is stupid anyways, manufacturers didn't give a shit about the PCI-SIG specs before, so they should not care now and just do 2/3x8-pin or if actually being smart, 2x EPS 12V.
The rev. 4 of pcie spec didn't even allow for cards over 300W or to use anything other than 8+6 or 3x6 to connect them. And I'm pretty sure that hasn't changed in the newer ones, other than allowing 12vhper for 600W

And why are the connectors melting? Because there's high draw on specific connections from unbalanced current, dingus! Hot wires are a common symptom for the same problem. 150°C wires are not fine. They do not indicate that things are fine. The connector would, and has been fine on cards with balanced input like 3090s. I've been running my 3090 with a 890 watt mod bios for the last 3 years and it draws 5 to 600 watts in gaming and I'm fucking fine!

If you mean the d8 video, it was the connector that was at 150c. They are a symptom, but they are not the cause, it is the poor connection of the connector causing it. And yeah you can mitigate it by on-board electronics but I don't really see what is the point in continuing to use a badly designed connector, when we already have solutions that work.
