the idea that this is the "ultimate" gaming house while everyone is suffering on thirty dollar school gym chairs crouching over some stupidly low fixed height built-in tables is crazy
I think it's just a case of personal tastes; but it feels more like a common room taken over by dudes in college or something else. I'd expect some sort of personal touches or something to give it a more... I dunno... less sterile? I'm not expecting some sort of major consoomer bait, but for ULTIMATE GAYMER HAUS, some personal touches and something more than school supply store furniture.

Haven't listened to WAN Show but it looks like they're in that gay firetruck, probably acting gay about tariffs.
Linus read a boring PR spiel about the tariffs. LMG is going to be hit hard. And Linus is pissed.

Because of the tariffs, Linus is finally forced to move his gay little screwdrivers to the US. Just for context, it would usually take two weeks, at minimum, for the package to get to you. And that is if you live in Canada or the US. Shipments to EU take much longer and are really expensive. I really have no idea what kind of fuckery is going on with LMG and shipping and how they managed to fuck it up so bad, when everyone else seems to be doing just fine, but this probably means they'll work with a different shipping company.

If LTTStore doesn't increase prices, they'll have to start layoffs.
"If we're making literally nothing, then people are getting fired."

I wonder what the plan is, the mechanical parts come from China and then they make the plastics in Canada. Importing from China to US doesn't really seem any better and if they're going to make them 100% in US the price would have to be Snap On level ~$200. Are their viewers retarded enough to spend $200 on a screwdriver?

Maybe this is the reason his dumb brain keep going to "LAN party" as an idea to make more money on the side? It seemed like he wanted to do LAN parties at the badminton place, was talking about a LAN party boat, joked about a LAN party firetruck. I know Quakecon and LANfest are still things(god knows why but that's a separate matter), but those are events and not businesses open to the public daily. The cybercafe shit never worked in the US as a sustainable business model, and I can't imagine Canada is much different in that regard as the markets seem too similar.
lan parties are a relic of a high trust era, i do know of a couple places that run similar set ups but you're paying $5 an hour and $5 for a redbull and you're crammed into a space the size of an asian dry cleaners with barely enough space to move around and its pretty obviously something that appeals to bugmen and is in places that are basically asian colonies.

the "party" aspect isn't there compared to how it must have been in the early 2000s because its a business and one that involves running a shitload of computers at very high power outputs and hoping to god your electricity bills don't bankrupt you. Plus there's the whole "why pay a company when i can buy my own computer and put this on a credit card/installment plan?" and online gaming be so much easier which would explain why LAN parties aren't popular anymore. Its like how you don't need to go to a gameplace to play card games anymore.

Linus obsession with LAN parties is insane, he might as well say he wants to have a place dedicated to myspace meet ups. its ridiculous. there is no way in hell its profitable, the place near me pays minimum wage to its weird employees.

watched the video and its based on his original gaming house from the late 2000s basically from the very last days of both lan parties and no one hearing about the concept of a "gaming chair"
Fucking skill issue, the Year of the Rake is upon us.
especially for canadian companies whats stopping them from doing a Calexico/Mexicali thing and just setting up businesses right across the border. Buffalo New York is 2 hrs away from Toronto, hell most of the area on the american side of the great lakes is a fucking shithole, there is no reason you shouldn't just hire a bunch of the low lifes around there and save on the costs if you're a canadian company worried about tariffs. most of canada being so close to the border makes it even easier for them to just set up a "factory" in america.

There's no way in hell Linus' merch warehouse in canada is anything more than a storage facility for his chink crap either.

Herman Miller existed back then my bro
That is some real retarded nostalgia baiting bullshit
At least spring for the $60 office Depot rolling chairs, so you can have a little bit of height adjustment

Who are the speds who want LAN in 2025. The rare time when all the boys can play we set up some shit in discord to play Doom, the forest or some diablo 2.
I do. I never did them very often and last went several years ago now, but it's a lot more engaging to physically be there together, even if you're playing on the same online servers you could've used back home. It's so low-energy and less committed to "meet" over the Internet.

Linus is an idiot who can't manage money and probably got all starry-eyed wanting to relive his teens and 20s with a "LAN center", albeit vicariously. On camera his personal passion for gaming or computer hardware feels pretty dead. It's his job, so naturally each release is more work instead of something to look forward to.

LAN centers are actually pretty big on places like China and others SEA countries. In the west is not very common but I know that on big cities they exists and are somewhat profitable but I wouldn't be surprised if Linus chink wife made his head that LAN center is a big thing because of China and is pushing him to build one.

The whole LAN shit reminds me of those 2010s Kickstarters from delusional Gen Xers going "hey you know what gaming needs? A new proprietary console that only plays shovelware 8-bit games from cartridges that might not even properly work all the time. Just like the good old days!"

The LAN/Gaming centers that are successful in normal high trust areas of the US tend to cater to the <18 crowd. Somewhat counterintuitively since the larger trend of barcades and gaming pubs is to skew older.

They sell 1-2 hour slots as an afterschool/evening activity, and do longer LAN-ish gaming nights on Fri/Sat. The two near me attract a heavily tween crowd, and feel like a modern version of what upscale laser tag was like in the 90s/00s. Not hugely lucrative, but there's a charm to it when done well.

Edit: I went and looked up the (average) current pricing around here, most seemed to cost around $6/hour for a seat, with small upcharges on certain machines (VR, streaming booth, Racing rigs, etc.), and then the obligatory snack bar/convenience store that charge ice rink prices.
Figure the average total spend is <$20/person outside of peak hours, which doesn't feel like a rip-off for what it is.

I don't think lan centers are a good business venture in developed countries where people can afford a PC/console of their own. I guess there are enough indians and chinks in canada that it may work out. Probably not a lot of niggers either.

This is 100% related to the fact Luke has been acting-chief of LTT Labs for a year now. Replacing Gary Key; someone who was getting paid hundreds-of-thousands of dollars, and yet is still making a paltry salary that he *self-admits* is not enough to move out of the tiny apartment he, his girlfriend, and a 3rd roommate rent together.

At this point there is a convincing argument Luke has Stockholm Syndrome.

That sounds more like an Internet cafe.

The LAN parties I went to back in those days were usually held in community halls and were as much about pirating as much shit as one possibly could as it was about gaming. They were usually run by informal groups whose goal was to just cover the costs of the hall hire.

Decent high-speed broadband connections were expensive and data limits were ludicrously low back then, so LAN parties were the only way some of us could acquire our warez, MP3s and DivX/XviD cam rips.

Linus obsession with LAN parties is insane, he might as well say he wants to have a place dedicated to myspace meet ups. its ridiculous. there is no way in hell its profitable, the place near me pays minimum wage to its weird employees.
LAN parties were never intended to make money for their organisers. If Linus reckons he can turn LAN parties into a profitable enterprise in 2025, then he's even more delusional than I thought.

I'm sure they also don't have extension cords running through their walls. I don't see how some building inspector hasn't come to his house and made him fix all of the shit he's done thats clearly against code.
What I really don't get is why Linus doesn't hire people who know what they're doing, and just include it in the video. I'm sure there's competent tradespeople who wouldn't mind being featured in a video.

Many people / bosses are retards. He isn't very familiar with homeinspections and codes which means that he has no clue who to hire. Instead of doing it correctly and hiring an architect or tradesperson to oversee house-related stuff he fucks around, because he will obviously never find out...
