Data is data, regardless of opinion. Unless the data is wrong(i.e taken wrongly or flat out lies), there's really nothing that the conflict of interest really does. What needs to happen is the data and methodologies need to be scrutinized and tested by others as well. You're supposed to check out multiple review channels and make your own opinion instead of blindly trusting what some nerd says.
I'm pretty much in agreement here, and that's why the framework thing doesn't bother me. Of course...
Data is data, but how it is presented could be biased. A fact that [product A] performs 5% better than [product B] could be framed as a slight advantage or a game changer depending on the presenter's tone and wording.
This is also an issue, though not even from a presentation standpoint. It could be that they're using a synthetic benchmark like 3d mark which is not indicative of real world computer use. In addition poor testing configurations can cause issues. GN makes note of a good one in their initial takedown vid. The testing of the Noctua NH-D15 that Linus states they use on all of their test benches. The top result shows the 13900K thermal throttling. That thing should have been excluded from the test.

This is why having multiple channels like GN and Hardware unboxed is so important. When one of them shows something unusual you can look at other channels to see if they show similar results.
Most importantly, they're probably not STILL using Anno to benchmark a fucking cpu.
It's been awhile, maybe they've stopped doing it, but LTT was using anno, a niche game if there ever was one, in their benchmarks. I can excuse grand theft auto 5 even though it's been out for like, a billion years, because there are still plenty of people playing it.
In comparison, do you not trust cancer research, which has saved millions of lives in the past decades, just because it's sponsored by people who profit from their specific drugs/procedures/equipment getting good reviews and being sold?
Here on kiwifarms? That's the silliest question you could probably have asked.

REUPLOADING THE ENTIRE FUCKING VIDEO

???? what word is confusing you

big media companies can now take an existing 15 year old YT video and replace the entire fucking thing without a single hint they've done so

there is NO way to verify if any video you watch on YouTube is the original video or even a derivative. there is zero integrity in the platform.
I've always assumed that had that capability and more. Think about what you, the owner of this site, could do with a post and Google has far more resources than you.

The issue with Linus is that he's not just potentially biased from his sponsor, but on top of that he doesn't care about the accuracy of his data. Combine the two and you get what we found out from GN - they have shoddy data at best and when it doesn't come out the way they want they just use the manufacturers data.

If Linus (or anyone) is out there with accurate data but he just misspoke occasionally or was a little too light handed with products from companies who sponsored him or he invested in, but the data he showed in his videos was accurate you would still have the ability to make a determination about a product based on his video about it, but now that the accuracy of the data has been called into question as well the reliability sinks exponentially.

Somehow I always knew Linus and Steve from GN would have a massive falling out. Not surprised to see how sloppy LTT has become, I think most of their production time these days is spent coming up with new retarded faces for their thumbnails.

I think this will blow over though and despite Linus being a faggot and Canadian (so double faggot) most of his weird simps will return to gobble up the vapid garbage LTT puts out.
Sadly I agree. Linus appeals to the 14-20 ish year old super techy type guys who want to have a $5,000 gaming PC, media room, asian waifu, and faggy earrings yet can't because they're working minimum wage in retail or similar.
My question is whether he's alienated all of his real life friends so all he has are e-celebs or does he think he's too good to be friends with anyone but e-celebs? When is trying to have a heart to heart with someone who mumbles stream of consciousness word garbage for zoomers all day for a living a good thing?
Probably alienation mixed with "IM BETTER THAN EVERYONE BECAUSE I HAVE CANADIAN MONEY"
They are all paid shills, some are just more careless about it than others. If you're gonna spend money, read/watch a variety of reviews and read between the lines, and buy from a place that has a good return policy.

GN aren't the good guys. They just called out Linus Dumb Tips for the trash content they produce and occasionally put out some interesting stuff. Their data is better quality than average but the conflict of interest is obvious. This cringelord Coreteks is right about GN but this applies to all commercial review/content mills,

At this point the only tech youtubers I trust are tiny unknown channels and even then i do my own autistic research.
I still put GN above most YT tech "reviewers"... Far above

Correct, LTT has shown itself to be a clown show run by a numbers obsessed retard

By all means, list some other extreme nerds who invest $250 thousand into acoustically isolated chambers for the purposes of testing noise from PC components. From my point of view it seems like everyone else large enough to afford such an investment (LMG) are clowns.
In comparison, do you not trust cancer research, which has saved millions of lives in the past decades, just because it's sponsored by people who profit from their specific drugs/procedures/equipment getting good reviews and being sold?
Are you asking whether or not I trust medical science after 2020? lol. Maybe it works, that's as much as I know or trust.

I'm convinced Anthony lurks here since he's mentioned the farms before.
Hey fatso if you read this I just wanna say thank you, really thank you.

I was so puzzled for so long.

Every time I saw it I asked myself, "why?"
Why doesn't he just shave it!?, the bald fat look wouldn't be so bad, certainly an improvement compared to whatever the fuck was happening up there.
But then you did it, you trooned out! And it finally made sense... You had been a faggot for a long time and you couldn't afford to lose that fabulous hair that was going to make you look like the cute princess you believe you are.

My question was answered and I'm at peace.
But maybe stop asking the REAL women you work with to twerk for you even if you just wanna learn how to do it from them ;).
Honestly, someone should make a separate thread on Tech Shrek and his troon husband at this point

He does. I've known a few of these people IRL. They eat that shit up. Think that a hyper powerful PC with a Threadripper will make them God or something, when all they use it for is a retarded Minecraft server and furry vr chat. Yes I met that kind of guy. But all it leads to, is you turning into Linus; a manchild control freak that can only impress Asian women with his magnum PC, literally no one else.

Who do you think sponsored research into the HPV vaccine? Literally everything in this world has someone behind it who has something to profit from their research ending up in a certain way
Should anyone trust cancer research blindly? Are you implying the HPV vaccine is a good product? Pretty terrible analogy given the medical industry's farcical performance over the last 3 years.

Correct take.

That and the "better IO" line I'd see spammed but never any further details or clarification was a really weird attempt at marketing.
It's just a case of overkill, the average joe doesn't really have an use case for having over 5Gb of i/o, the 600 Mb a sata SSD can handle are more than enough.

Honestly only reason I use them is because it's two less cables to deal with, and they aren't that much more expensive than the SATA types.

This kind of shit happens in medical science too. (For clarity sake, the research quoted isn't quite as important as journos seem to imply and it was one of many leading theories being built on, but it shows how even in this field sometimes 'the soyence' can be built on top of a shaky foundation)

At the end of the day the only thing you can do for tech reviews, as many people have said, is check multiple sources (big and small, if possible) and methodologies, the corpos can only buy so many reviewers.

Eh at least Tranthony is smart enough to keep quiet for now.

I'm convinced he's getting paid to fuck off
Re: him being held out of the spotlight...well, yea. I am not a serious viewer of imbecile Linus, so someone who can suck their own dick might refute me on this. But it seems like in the months leading up to and since he went public with his delusions, Anthony has been left out of videos and thumbnails. I suspect that Linus is personally uncomfortable with trannies on staff, but since he lives in a country where you can sue women for not touching your dick (in a human rights tribunal no less!), he can't just fire the guy. A rare good, albeit forced, business decision from Linus.

Still, he might not be quiet for long. Trannies love doing two things:
1. Being a victim
2. Doing things they consider outwardly essential to being a woman, but without thinking about why they would be done. Classic symptom of autism, which is a common comorbidity of gender delusion.

LTT is bringing in a third party investigator to look into the sex harassment claims. It's a waste of money because the outcome is going to be that everyone in the fucking office says creepy/unprofessional things, but no one is escalating beyond that. Basically something Linus could have but refused to act on himself. But that's when Anthony will crack. He will fantasize about a woman in his shoes and conclude that if Madison was harassed, he must be too in order to cement his womanhood. So he'll relay a preposterous #metoo story. The investigator will be disturbed hearing Anthony autisticly rehash all the things Madison already said. In the only positive that will come from this, the investigator will be thoroughly disturbed and conclude Anthony is the culprit living out his fantasies.

Tranthony hasn't had enough dirty laundry rise to the surface yet. I think it's coming for sure, and who knows what is out there waiting to be discovered, but for now, probably fine with keeping Jabba in this thread. I'm actually still to this day shocked he did a video showcasing temple os, and he didn't even have a ten minute screed saying how Terry Davis was a literal nazi. I expect the titty skittles to flush that out of his system though.

Another reason I can't take Coreteks seriously is IIRC, some years ago, he actually made a video that said that this generation of consoles will finally outpace the PC because... they have an NVMe storage that not all PCs will have...

Um... ok? Not all PCs have high end GPUs either. It hasn't aged particularly well because relatively more affordable NVMe drives have shown up in the past few years.
While the notion of "consoles outpacing PC's" is laughably stupid, you will see games leveraging faster SSD's as time goes on. PC's and consoles have influenced each other for a long time. Back in the 80's it was side scrolling platformers in the arcade and on the home consoles which pushed PC devs and the like to develop actual scrolling in games whereas your Epic Mega Games and the like didn't really have the hardware or anything for it until... late 80's, early 90's? Not exactly sure on the timeline there. I know it took the PC a long time to catch up.
The other big push consoles made is the proliferation and use of higher numbers of cores. One of the things that really made Crysis run like shit was the fact that it was designed for a "future" PC, and the developers thought this "future PC" would have CPU's with a focus on significantly higher clock speeds. Well, that's not the way the industry headed.

Sorry, bear with me here because this era of computing gets chaotic. In 2001 IBM made the first multicore processor, but it wasn't until 2005 that intel released their Pentium D, a dual core processor that anyone (fabulously wealthy) could buy. The 360 launched in 2005 with a triple core processor from IBM that you all probably heard of, the Xenon. Even then it was considered new tech and many companies scoffed at the idea of multi core cpu's, especially in the gaming sphere. Crysis also launched in 2007, so even if they decided "Woah, multicore is the future" they were far too late into their development to rework things. Remember, they made the Crytek engine FOR Crysis and future games. Then the ps3 came out and had a hefty multicore cpu (which was fucking bullshit to develop for) that it too used to spread the workload out rather than brute force with speed.

While I'm sure that the pc market would have gotten there on it's own eventually, the slow adoption rate of games and programs that utilized multiple cores is proof enough that PC developers were more or less dragged kicking and screaming into the multicore future of 8 cores running at 4 gigshitz with 4 megafartz of cache we're currently at by consoles.

This long winded (possibly unnecessarily) response is simply to say that current consoles are probably responsible for pushing us into faster and faster SSD's if for no other reason than you being able to buy an extra and stick it in your ps5 for more storage.

Good lord just when you think that LTT's group couldn't get anymore scummy.

They are striving to be the best tech reviewers in the world. They literally just spent $250 thousand to build a sound dampening chamber to more accurately test acoustics. They cannot accept sponsorships for PC cases, GPUs, thermal interfaces, fans, pumps, radiators, etc, that all make noise. The data would forever be in question. This is irrefutable.
I'm kind of amazed people are as bad as they are at understanding what conflict of interest is. I've already seen comments like "well can you PROVE that he's been dishonest?" or as one comment on the Coreteks video says " the best you can do is try and juggle and balance that conflict of interest"
I really thought this was a thing they teach high schoolers but i guess not.

Madison's accusations have more weight now. Hopefully the milk has only begun to flow.

They teach high-schoolers anything these days?

Anyway, conflicts of interest are not a problem if they're disclosed and rigorous methodology is followed. Of course you're not going to be reviewing the product you're being paid to advertise as a sponsor spot, and you should always disclose whether you bought or received an item as a sample. Sometimes you just have to recuse yourself and refrain from reviewing an item you're too closely affiliated with. But if you're doing things right, most conflicts of interest can be negotiated easily. Show your work, show your numbers, and try to present as honest a conclusion as possible.

It's like we've been so burned by scummy business practices that we don't understand what good business practices are anymore. A car magazine in the 80s was sponsored by all the big brands, but so long as they weren't blatantly partisan towards any of them and didn't obviously get the numbers wrong (saying an engine develops 500HP instead of 300), you could still expect to be trusted. And that's the key here: trust. GN has all their procedures because accurate numbers help build trust in their brand no matter what their sponsorship deals are. LTT tried to muscle into that turf with all that expensive gear and crew... without doing the necessary homework to provide good numbers or even basic proofreading on their videos. That is what GN was calling them out on, and that modular laptop bullshit aside there wasn't a lot about conflicts of interest because the business model for media has always relied on sponsorships.

I've seen some people throwing around the idea of only taking patreon and viewer money. Which at face value is a good idea: after all, the viewers will naturally want the most accurate info possible, right? Theoretically, yes. In practice, no. If your viewers over time become majority vocal Nvidia fanboys who hate AMD more than anything, but AMD then releases a brand new GPU product line that blows Nvidia out of the water (stay with me here, it's just a thought experiment)... well, you have a lot of incentives to either stay quiet and don't review the new Team Red GPUs, or emphasize any downsides, real or imaginary, compared to Team Green. Why? Because if you don't, you risk upsetting your fanbase, and upsetting your fanbase means less money in your pocket.
