I'm pretty much in agreement here, and that's why the framework thing doesn't bother me. Of course...Data is data, regardless of opinion. Unless the data is wrong(i.e taken wrongly or flat out lies), there's really nothing that the conflict of interest really does. What needs to happen is the data and methodologies need to be scrutinized and tested by others as well. You're supposed to check out multiple review channels and make your own opinion instead of blindly trusting what some nerd says.
This is also an issue, though not even from a presentation standpoint. It could be that they're using a synthetic benchmark like 3d mark which is not indicative of real world computer use. In addition poor testing configurations can cause issues. GN makes note of a good one in their initial takedown vid. The testing of the Noctua NH-D15 that Linus states they use on all of their test benches. The top result shows the 13900K thermal throttling. That thing should have been excluded from the test.Data is data, but how it is presented could be biased. A fact that [product A] performs 5% better than [product B] could be framed as a slight advantage or a game changer depending on the presenter's tone and wording.
This is why having multiple channels like GN and Hardware unboxed is so important. When one of them shows something unusual you can look at other channels to see if they show similar results.
Most importantly, they're probably not STILL using Anno to benchmark a fucking cpu.
It's been awhile, maybe they've stopped doing it, but LTT was using anno, a niche game if there ever was one, in their benchmarks. I can excuse grand theft auto 5 even though it's been out for like, a billion years, because there are still plenty of people playing it.
Here on kiwifarms? That's the silliest question you could probably have asked. In comparison, do you not trust cancer research, which has saved millions of lives in the past decades, just because it's sponsored by people who profit from their specific drugs/procedures/equipment getting good reviews and being sold?
