Damn, I haven't heard of recklesstortuga in a long time; though, I still call people "alcoholic semen throwers" which I took from them.Remember mydamnchannel or recklesstortuga?
One of my previous jobs, was only there for about a year until they decided I wasn't needed, though I feel there may have been more issues going on. But like, 9 months later I get a call from one of the regional contacts and the dude starts asking me all these questions, and I tell him I'm not with them anymore. He then asks for contact info and after insisting I don't know several times, I tell him they'd have to rehire me if he wants my support. Never heard from them again. It's not just contractors, a lot of businesses, to include big business as a whole are really fucking stupid when it comes to planning and organizing.Contractors are 100% in their right to say "Fuck you, we're done." and walk when they're finished and asked to do more work than they were originally contracted for. Fuck you Linus for
...
B. for asking them to do more work for free just because you've got the attention span of a goldfish and change plans by the day.
Spoiler: It was CGI Federal, the American Government arm of CGI, the Canadian company who botched the rollout of the ObamaCare website.
All that aside, Linus's biggest problem (aside from Yvonne not holding onto the purse strings as tightly as she should) getting ideas and trying to bite off way more than he can chew. Labs for example, sounds neat, even prestigious if you can get your own symbol to denote some sort of quality or whatever; problem being, LMG is not NIST, ISO, IEEE, or other big dick organizations. And you might think, well, you have to start somewhere, and sure, okay, but getting there is far beyond what Linus and his crew can do; a lot of their tech/engineering staff are what I'd consider hobbyist or amateur tier (Dan seems competent, and the whole video/editing team seem like they know what they're doing). And not to insult any of the Engineering degree holders, but they all seem to be 1-3 years experience at most; sure you may be able to figure something out and follow best practices you picked up in school, but if they're gonna really grow as an engineer, they need professional guidance. And you may be asking, how do I know that's what Linus is even going for; and I answer, because without any sort of real world acceptance, his whole labs schtick is a money sink. Wow, you test keyboard and mouse key clicks to determine how many microns are needed for it to complete a circuit or whatever and you publish your findings; neat, I guess, who's paying for this? I mean I get Linus is actually paying for it, but who's paying him to do this and publish the findings? Oh, you're telling me it's a financial black fucking hole, even if operating at optimal efficiency.
The best thing Linus could do is rent out his labs for better recognized bodies to perform tests, and that's if his building is even up to their standards with proven methodologies and properly configured and tested gear... which won't happen.
