The beginning of Oshi No Ko is a perfect representation of this. It's this point exactly, especially since VTubers can be heavily compared to idols yet remaining even more anonymous.
Yet a fair portion of that IRL fanbase are just focused on sexualizing Ruby, Kana, Akane, and Aqua to name a few (they're all underaged by the way) and having that obsessive interest over them to the point it's technically a parasocial relationship with the series.
This is all instead of actually seeing the main point: That the series is criticizing them and calling them out directly. Yet, they're too retarded to get it.
But then again, leave it to weebs to be absolutely retarded over fictional women just because they look just remotely fuckable to them.
This exactly. Anyone who is interested in parasocial relationships/stalkers and is new to that sort of thing, search up Ricardo Lopez when you have the time. It's an utterly disturbing, yet fascinating look into the depth of a mind of a man who has completely fucking lost it and is deluded to the point he went to the utmost extremes of wanting attention from Björk until the desperation was too much and he became a hero.
That and also Eminem's song "Stan", which is also a perfect look and commentary into the mind of these fans. "Stan" = "Stalker fan", the origin of the term for many of the faggot pop fanbases today and is now sadly very much a culturally appropriated term.
