Yes, this part of Lucas is what fascinates me the most. It appears that he does have this very basic ability to
1. recognize what's socially accepted
2. recognize which parts of his behavior do not fit
3. make adjustments/reframe the narrative
I think it's fascinating to me because of the way he does the last thing... it makes it so it should be impossible this person has the capacity to be able to do the first 2. Like with his crazy rants, when confronted on some of his extreme or delusional points by people he recognizes with a sense of respect or someone he wants to impress like Gold's gf, he is well aware enough to say he's just joking.
