Lucas always, ALWAYS mistakes basic politeness as, "Okay this is my new best friend!".

Social illiteracy is Lucas's best feature. If a cashier says "Thank you, have a nice day" when handing him his change, he interprets it as flirting. He seems to transform any measure of attention and courtesy he receives, however slight, into something intimate and meaningful.
