Luca talks at people and actively gets hostile, smug, defensive, or dismissive when it's reciprocated, especially if it's not supplicative - then he'll have some short phrases if he thinks you aren't competition "for the 18-24 juicy wombers" or that you're sympathetic to him.
She supposedly did do that, for awhile at least. For as much as her claims of fighting for him are worth. Though shes not entirely right in the head herself, is just as narcissistic as he is and has a history of distancing herself from things that reflect badly on her. Hence the bs story she told about his 'fever' incident that couldn't have possibly happened the way she described. Take all of that together and the fact lucas tries to use anyone he can, including family members, and it could easily be that she simply had enough of him and knows hes a lost cause and wrote him off, hence the move across the country to arizona. That aside, both she and lucas confirmed the schitzo diagnosis at various times. Could be a bipolar schitzo, which would explain alot. and he himself seems to think he has autistic traits, which is why he flat out said he refused to get tested for it cause he didn't want anything else reflecting badly on him (so clearly he at least suspects he ticks a few boxes for autism as well)

She claimed the reason he is the way he is is because of some odd fever of like you said 108 - 110. One that supposedly lasted for days and supposedly had no other lasting damage. It also was claimed to be accompanied by a rash that sounded an awful lot like rubella or scarlet fever, neither of which would have led to his mental problems. But yeah, there is no way in hell a person is going to survive as long as myrna claimed lucas did with a temperature anywhere near 108 - 110. His brain would have quite literally fried like a slab of bacon after a very short time. At best he would be a drooling vegetable staring at a wall for the rest of his life
Point being, I don't doubt he had some kind of infection but it didn't go the way she claims it did and it didn't cause his problems. She just uses it as an excuse to tell to other people to explain why hes a mentally ill pedo whenever it gets brought up, so that she doesn't have to admit to him having inherited his mental problems from her. She just saw it as an affront to her personally for being 'poor.' You're right. She acted like the teacher saying he "wasn't exactly mr. Popularity" was some serious insult, nasty even, when she was just stating the obvious. Perhaps even trying to put a not too serious gloss on it. She seems to think that the teacher suggesting her kid was anything other than a golden boy is Unforgivable. And what you say about the fever, it really does seem like she's reaching. It's interesting how she mentions his schizophrenia, but complains about it in deliberately nebulous terms. She's okay with people knowing her son is mentally ill, but never discusses the real family shame that Lucas has brought upon her, which is that he's an almost open pedophile....with no qualms about directing his urges towards family.

Then he bemoans the fact that pretty college girls aren't calling the library to check on him. It's important to remember that even when Lucas begins looking halfway normal, he's still completely batshit insane. And he'll never be anything other than entirely selfish and narcissistic. Difference is my parents weren't trash people and decided to help me work on the skills I was good at and learn to fake the other ones to at least mostly co-exist with other kids by framing it as a roleplaying game so I could "make a character" that was the traits that would make me seem less weird.
Got really good at it too; can't say I was ever popular but it did help me figure out what I was supposed to watch for in terms of my own behavior and how other people were reacting and I ended up setting up a pretty bang on Customer Service Character that's had a career in IT admin & support roles for well over a decade! Because in Lucas's autistic way of thinking, he believes that all these hot young women must be Bernie Sanders supporters. He just is fully convinced of that. well, from what i've experienced second and third hand, EBT is pretty common in some communities due to poverty, and being able to secure bennies from the government means you have some "income" to support yourself and/or others, or hustle for cash to buy stuff you normally can't get on EBT. it's also a mark of dubious prestige among some groups because it also implies you can hustle so good that you don't need a typical income. you don't exactly see people bragging about it though, except kids in public school that only attend for the free food (provided to needy families).

If I'm remembering right, at one time there was FB page set up with the name Lucas Werner and that guy (the publicist) was impersonating Lucas on the page. Some people thought it was the real Lucas posting , others knew it wasn't.
On day that Adam guy went to far and posted a picture of a gun. Apparently someone thinking it was the real Lucas reported it to the Spokane PD and the police showed up at Lucas's door. That's when the page disappeared.
