For the moment, set aside Goering's many contributions to the extinction of European jewry, and consider the man behind the genocide. Goering had the guts to be an ace pilot, a keen mind, and extra confidence where most folks store their conscience. He cut quite the dashing figure in his youth but aged prematurely and calamitously. Der dicke Hermann was a flamboyant buffoon who wore bedazzled uniforms, ate himself fat, and collected garish art and exotic animals. He was captured toting a suitcase of morphine, and shocked his captors with the scope of his habit. And yet, as his horrific resume demonstrates, he was a man to be taken seriously (c.f Lucas Colby Werner).
Goering had a quality that I'm not sure what to call, that I recognize in addicts and coomers. It goes beyond gluttony. It's something like a toxic lust for life, an appetite that is never satisfied, a wasting sickness. A need for more. Just more. Whatever it is, there is not enough of it. Whatever you're doing, you need to do it again. You need more of it, get more. The more is the point, not the thing itself. More (food). More (sex). More (drugs). More stimulation. More life. Goering was a dude that could not eat enough, decorate his faggot uniforms enough, steal enough art, slam enough morphine, boast enough, or kill enough Jews. Dude devoured the world around him.
Lucas has this quality, though he lacks Goering's competence and is not a man to be taken seriously. Or even a man, actually. Lucas is a slave to his appetites, a glutton who is obsessed with desires that he cannot satisfy, a mook always in search of more.
