So, at about 8:35, does he allude to having basically committed some form of sexual assault as the reason why they locked him up this time (as some here speculated)?
He states he is taking medication for his diabetes now and wasn't before, which he says "could have been the reason for [his] aggressive behaviour" and then he mumbles something about the #metoo movement and emphasises that he's been "very respectful of women" more recently.

There were a couple videos a few years back where for up to two minutes at I time I thought he was somehow becoming *slightly* self aware.
Then he started ranting about God alone knows what, at one point screaming about credit cards or cars to what I think was a billboard. It was the fastest I've ever gone from "maybe he's -" to "nope!"

Lucas hopes to gain a doctorate in astrobiology or quantum physics, but in order to do that he'll actually have to show some commitment. So, he actually has to put effort into both researching and writing his thesis/dissertation - this means referencing everything, and writing an essay that isn't a word salad.
The biggest challenge for Lucas, however, is that he's going to have to take in ideas or concepts that don't agree with his warped worldview. He's going to look at real science, not the stuff of academic nightmares that comes from his own head. Lucas will also have to accept feedback on his work from his lecturers, and we all know how that'll go.

Seeing this makes Lucas' decent into madness heartbreaking in a way, at least for those close to him. I'd like to think that his mother's pleas played some part in his choice to finally accept the medication for his diabetes, and to get an education.
I'd say that Lucas' real motivation behind going to college is that he'll get a millennial girl somewhat "easily", seeing that the vast majority of people enrolled fall into that age group. He believes that it'll be like shooting fish in a barrell, when in fact it would be closer to sticking metal rod in a tank full of electric eels. It won't be long until Lucas is the campus creep.

The weirdest part is it’s not even hard to fuck 21 year olds as an older dude. Just be moderately attractive and interesting, make them laugh and have some interests that they think are cool. Definitely don’t rant about how your sperm will create better offspring because telomerase. Most of them don’t even want to think about kids yet.
Although, beyond sex or some kind of creepy power fantasy I’m not sure why someone would want to actually be in a relationship with a girl that young, they’re usually kind of crazy and not that interesting.

No way. He's a selfish prick and he's never cared about how his behaviour affects his family, so I don't see that having changed recently.
I do feel bad for his family, but not so much for Lucas himself. He's both mentally ill and a bad person. These qualities are not mutually exclusive.
I also think his mother is
to claim that Lucas has moments of clarity where he realizes the effects of his illness (and I can't blame her for obviously wanting to believe that). Were that the case, he would have done something about his social media presence and taken measures to prevent himself from continuing to make a fool of himself. But I've never seen him delete even his most egregiously absurd and disturbing status updates or videos.
