Done with episode 8. I had a lot more to say about that then I expected so despite it being a 30 minute long episode I talk about it for 8 minutes. Episode 9 is the last one and I'll probably have a lot to say about that one too because the ending is wtf levels of bad.

Yes but with young adult novel themes.
I forget who but some chick who was trying to publish had a good breakdown of why young adult novels are shit and how publishing companies have strict requirements for what the themes should be and how women characters should be portrayed

Just got done watching it myself and agree, I was kind of enjoying it until episode 7 and then it went off the rails for me.

Even before that though, I'd say it was pretty good but not amazing. I've seen similar concepts explored in other media and done better (Running Man, Battle Royale/Hunger Games, Kaiji) so all the hype is a bit surprising to me honestly. Anyway, look forward to seeing your spergery on it.

Yeah I think the first episode was probably my favourite, maybe the sixth. The show was at it's best when it was as believeable as possible. Any deviation from that at all takes it to the absurd. They could've ran the show striaght, no twists or anything, just as a fucked up game show, and it would've been far better. There's no need for the overarching narrative.

I want to see Null watch Running Man and compare the two. That movie is an absolute shlock classic.

I unironically love that movie and highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it. I also just remembered Hard Target, some 90s action schlock with Van Damme, pretty good action movie and does the whole rich people thing way better that Squid Game in my opinion. I think a lot of these are probably at least in part based on Most Dangerous Game which is an old short story. Worth a read if you can find it.

I really enjoyed Squid Game although it should have ended right before he got the faggot hair color, would have been much better. I honestly forgot how bad that was because the rest was really enjoyable.

Keep trying to find the sauce for the threads mentioned last Friday about troons in Amazon reviews and failing... let it be known I did try but I think I'm just looking in the wrong places. Help?
