Two reasons:Remind me why Cyndi isn't in the WWE Hall of Fame?
If she hadn't hit it off with Captain Lou, wrestling would have fallen into irrelevancy a lot sooner.
1. Lauper had a major panic attack around the time "Time After Time" came out about her career prospects going forward as far as it being the song that made critics think Lauper had potential as a serious singer. She began fearing that her affiliation with the WWE was going to cause her to be seen as a one-hit wonder type.
2. Lauper was legit close friends with wrestler Wendi Ricter and Richter got fucked over HARD by the WWE and Lauper took Ricter's side and stopped associating with the WWE.
It's also why True Colors had such a bizarro marketing strategy. She only did two "proper" videos to promote the album (True Colors and Change of Heart) and the rest were taking from a live concert video (and Change of Heart was filmed as a live street performance around the time she filmed said concert video in Paris). Cindy desperately wanted to distance herself from She's So Unusual, which is also why True Colors got the biggest promotional push of her singles and why Lauper largely abandoned the mainstream.
Only a couple of years ago, did the WWE start rebuilding bridges with Ricter and they managed to get Lauper involved; on the anniversary of the first WM IIRC, they got the two together along with Roddy Piper on one of their "Legends Nights" and did a bit where Piper formally buried the hatchet with Ricter and Lauper over their storyline feud.
