If that part was kept under wraps, Rock Hudson could be a sex symbol, Johnny Ray could cry, and Dom Deluise could camp up scenes in Burt Reynolds movies. Everyone knew and no one cared.

Madonna is a terrible role model. She's been living in a bubble for almost 40 years, separated from the normal world. She's a product of the present world order and capitalism, yet she once again urges people to "rise up". What a faux Madam.

Average folk started objecting to gays in the 60s because they marched and rioted, not so much because they were gay. It didn't matter if it was women's lib or gay lib or racial equality... They hated the upheaval and lack of control over society more than they hated the individuals. There were exceptions of course. Every person is bigoted differently, and there were pockets of society that were less tolerant. But if you look at the overall popular culture of the 20th century, you'll see that it was relatively open to differences in people. That was actually a selling point.

Paul Lynde is an excellent example of this. He was a regular on Hollywood Squares for over 10 years and that was aired on network TV everyday. People loved him, but there was no question that he was as gay as a picnic basket.

The thing we're seeing or have been seeing is that people are being shoved into categories whether they like it or not and other people don't like those categories. However, we all know that if someone who doesn't like a specific category meets an individual within that category, it's usually a well they're the good kind mentality.

Madonna has always been purposefully ambiguous about her sexuality even though she's demonstrated a preference for men. Remember that tacky ass Britney Spears kiss at, what was it, the VMA's years ago?

She's really got no clue. That Pol Pot monologue at Eurovision had a shoutout to a $450 hoodie company in it. Because nothing goes better with the imagery of an oppressed proletariat dragging out the guillotine than obscenely overpriced hiphop wear.

It's entirely accurate for the wokiest folx, but probably not something you want to deliberately draw attention to.

Is their feud really real? I always thought it was manufactured by record companies.

Anyway, they've long gone on separate directions and each got more or less what she wants. Madonna got more wealth than 10 Third-World countries combined; Cyndi Lauper got respect.

This exactly! And dispite her being largely a memory of the 80's for a lot of people, shes has a steady career, and has loyal fans. She is ALWAYS on tours.
These days, Madonna chimes in something people brace themselves for the inevitable fuck up, cos she doesn't have to care about shit, and money don't make you sane.
 
Hilarious- Madonna is so fucking boring and played out that people talked about the presence of homosexuality in popular culture for a few pages.

Calling herself or her record (not sure which she actually did) MDNA I think is the pinnacle of her tarnished legacy. She went from a cultural icon to trying to adjust her name for an album or whatever to appeal to younger people who happen to enjoy club drugs. Fucking pathetic.
