I was actually going to write up an actual response to this and then I got to this;
You're doing this thing where for some reasom if you preface it with "Now I think we can all agree the boy was a nogoodnik..." before immediately screaming how he was totally railroaded by lies and lying liars, and dancing around the fact you very much believe it was motivated by "political reasons".
"W-well things people did to him were even worse!", did they? Ok, can I see some? Because if you're talking about what I think you're talking about, people were linking his family his Dramatica pages was about the extent of it. Number one, haha, number two, who gives a fuck, and more importantly, what are they supposed to have done about that? Did any card players do it, or was it no-names that they couldn't possibly have done anything to? Were they supposed to show him sympathy for being trolled and reverse the ban on those grounds?
What, in your opinion, would have been the correct response from the company to Anons fucking with Jeremy?
You're missing my point, so I'll get right to it. Jeremy was and still is an annoying sperg. Clearly people in WotC and its outlying communities wanted him gone. However, when all was said and done, they had almost nothing to go on when they finally banned his ass forever anyway, evidence be damned. This sort of guilty-because-we-say-so shit is something that's been increasingly common since the Autism Holy War and has shown no signs of abatement since said war's end. If you're not familiar with this phenomenon, I can direct you to
@GethN7 and he can tell you all about that time Brianna Wu got his ass permabanned from Twitter via her connections despite him breaking no rules whatsoever and being nothing but polite because he dared to point out when she was fucking lying.
All of that brings us to what I was talking about: WotC's selective enforcement. There are people who did
way worse shit than Jeremy and didn't get the sort of ban he did. They wanted him gone, they didn't care how it happened, and that's
fucking familiar to anyone who's been watching this sort of thing happen over the last few years. We're supposed to accept the double-standard that WotC took fucking no action against countless offenses because they were done by the "right sort of people," while at the same time going to the ground for shit like this and then virtue signaling how cool and against harassment they are.
Now, even if you want to make the argument that a lot of the offensives against Jeremy himself were done by trolls (something I will both accept and likewise believe, considering experience from GG), that's fine - some of the more ridiculous stuff, including the one where games stores in Jeremy's area were contacted were done anonymously, so yeah, point there.
However, that said, there was also
plenty of documented examples of MTG community members going full tard. Ignoring groups like ResetERA and the entire MTG subreddit who wanted the bearded Autist burned at the fucking stake (and
taking credit for any successes they had), Jeremy covered on multiple occasions, multiple attempts by people either directly or indirectly tied to WotC involved with attempts to get his Youtube accounts shut down, his Patreon shut down, and otherwise face additional ramifications for daring to go against the grain and refusing to shut up and go away.
When people say this shit seems familiar and reference GG, it's because this same fucking nonsense happened there, chapter and verse.
Back in GG, there was constant statements that there wasn't any collusion between various groups in GG's opposition: It was laughable, for example, to suggest that Anti-GGers were an organized faction (even though they clearly were even before GG really started), or that Zoe Quinn and Feminist Frequency were in cahoots (even though they fucking provably were), for example. And while it's certainly not a good idea to say that every insane accusation made by the shrieking sped brigade has a nugget of truth concealed in it (or indeed, even many of them), you'd be insane not to consider the possibility of a company like WotC being just as vulnerable to the sort of ideological capture that the peddlers of this specific ideology are fucking known for at this point.
