I really admire your passionate fervor in this here thread.

Look man, I understand it. I really do.

But we're in a thread about a retarded boy who is pretty sure he and his rag tag band of bros busted a pedophilia ring after a deeply planted squad of SJWs tried to conspire against him for being too edgy on Twitter, and that they're mere weeks ago from pulling off a sweeping legal victory over them.

Like you can insinuating thinking that that's crazy as shit is autistic all day man, that shit's fucking stupid, and I'm going to keep following it.

I think MTG Lion is the big lulcow in this. The guy seems a bit exceptional and delusional.

I can appreciate that even if I don't agree with how you're doing it, you have been, in your own way, reminding us that we should always verify shit, especially given a tendency for both sides on this one to post hyperbole as fact.

It's a good practice to bear in mind, since frankly it's easy to get lost amidst the autism in an event such as this.

Sorry for the possible double-post, but I had something to share that I didn't want getting mixed in with a specifically targeted response. This one's a bit long, but it's a bit of an oddity I noticed that I felt relevant enough to share. Check it out.

I recently cracked open the old Autism Holy War archives, seeing if some of the usual subjects were REEEEEE-ing about Jeremy and company all that much, since I figured this would be a good chance to bring in some additional funny to this thread.

Then, I noticed something:

G7ePFFP.png

....That's from ResetERA.

In a shocking change from the norm, one of the most autistic SJW communities is openly calling the sort of shit Jeremy was receiving abhorrent. Indeed, while condemnation for Jeremy was the norm on the site, the general response was one of "Well, he got kicked out, so show's over, let him fade away." While there was some of the usual "THIS IS ANOTHER GG YOU GUYS WE MUST FOIL HIM" posts, those weren't the norm in this thread, and surprisingly, ResetERA has not discussed Magicgate since December.

If you're not understanding why that's is anomalous, I don't blame you - so let me explain: ResetERA, like many Social Justice-Centered sites, has a hilarious tendency to scream about stupid shit for months or even years at a time. There's a reason they have one of the most productive community threads on this website. These are the same sites that were parroting "Jontron is a neonazi" and "Alison Rapp was fired because Gamergate" fucking months, if not years after they happened. This kind of rapid-fire die-off just doesn't happen in these communities. If there's enough energy to hate something, they'll focus on it like a laser beam made of Autism.

It gets stranger. Numerous other communities covering this scandal and actively attempting to shit-stir against Jeremy, portraying him as everything from a sexist to a dangerous threat likewise abruptly end their attempts in early late December to January. There's just a complete shutdown - no further attempt to discuss things, no attempts by the usual subjects to keep the fires burning hot.
This just... Stops.

All of that happens around December 27th, advancing to a completly dead battery of discussions on January 2nd. Two things happen at around this point:

1. First and most obviously, the first "big" video in which Jeremy flat-out names pedophiles in the Judge community happened on the 28th. Jeremy would doubtlessly claim this is the reason for the die-off, but as many would point out, that's stupid: if anything, this would only stirred up the hive if that was the case since it would give them a fresh reason to hate his ass again.

2. The second, far more likely reason that his coverage died off is because more important things came up: Namely, that Marvel's resident SJW community got the axe at around the same time, which was a much bigger event that triggered, correspondingly, a bigger shitstorm online. This incident brought us dozens of new lolcows and this.... Beautiful abomination in which comics nerds are unironically called "Chads." The fallout of this shitstorm continues to this day.

Here's what I think happened: While Jeremy drew considerable fire for a time from the usual suspects, they all moved on when things way bigger than Magicgate happened at around the same time. He wasn't worth covering. Ironically, that worked to Jeremy's favor: Without the usual suspects providing constant pushback pressure (as they do), things boiled down to a three-way between Jeremy, people associated with WotC's self-described community, and various troll groups on all sides. When Jeremy kept digging up shit like the Pedophile Judge issue, there wasn't any of the usual push-back that there would have been otherwise, because the people usually responsible for that were all sperging over other subjects.

Putting it simply, this suggests that Jeremy's one-man Autism war was only as successful as it has been because the usual outrage politicians just... Weren't there to run interference. Or, if you'd prefer, that nobody gave a fuck about Jeremy's campaign to bother covering it, leading to victory by default when WotC wasn't able to message-push beyond its own idiots in response.

Both are equally Autistic and funny.

This was quite enlightening, thanks for the write up! I must say that the most bizarre thing about this whole case is.... Just how little backlash Jeremy has received from the SJW community... Especially when compared to people that actually take the moral high ground on shit.

So in in other words, Magicgate was the autism war that never was?

That's completely correct, not to mention completely hilarious in it's own way. :story:

But on a more somber note, IMO, this is pretty much a sign of death for MTG as a mainstream-ish hobby, when not even the radicalest of radical SJWs bother with it..

Magic was never really mainstream, it’s probably on the same level as Warhammer as in everyone has heard of it because they have a cousin who played it.

I bought a set of cards for the first time last year, thinking it would be a cool way to meet people, but I never really got into it. I find some of them a bit autistic/difficult to get along with, and some of the people at the gaming store are a bit rude. I went to a trading day and this middle aged woman was snapping at me when I asked her about the cards she was selling. And it's just all a bit of a fun, touchy feely/silly group. The store people are always snappy or over-friendly when you are gonna buy stuff, and they have these long late night shut-in game nights where you have to eat/drink expensive snacks from the store. And I don't find the game hugely fun. TBH I prefer just a drink in a bar, pool and video games. Sorry for the negativity.

@KillThemCrackasBabies

Question for you because as much sperg shit as there is from some of the featured, you seem to be becoming a focus with your unchained hateboner for this jeremy dude.

Why are you so invested in this? Every time you post, it's madposting. Just calm down and enjoy the shitshow, I'm getting the feeling Jeremy has slighted you in some way in the past and you are mad at it because there is no way you are this upset because he makes shit videos.

It's literally me making fun of a guy doing and saying stupid shit. On a board where people make fun of people who do and say stupid shit. Most of you just sympathize with him, and that's why anyone who's making fun of the stupid shit he's constantly saying and doing and saying is striking you as "mad". I've done and said the same shit to Boogie, Quinn, everybody else in every other thread. None of you sympathize with any of those people, though, so nobody questions whether or not I'm "mad" at them in those threads.

"Why are you so invested in this"? A handful of you openly admitted you really think there's a solid chance some no-name dipshit is going to drag this corporation to court and beat them for big money. That's not stupid?

"Maybe it is YOU who are the lolcow!" doesn't quite have the same bite when it's said by someone who sits there and immediately admits "But really, there is a conspiracy here against these guys...". Keep saying 'umad' over and over again, that doesn't make any of this shit less ridic.

Im just saying, you are coming off really fucking invested in this lol.

It gets crazier.

With WotC making unambiguously clear via their recent shenanigans that they're just going to ban anyone they disapprove of (and sieze their card collection in the process for MTGO), a lot of players have started leaving MTGO entirely, since there's no reason to stick around: Anyone who cares about the game is inevitably going to lose their investment, either because WotC bans them for suspected wrongthink or if the servers get shut down when the game ceases to be profitable (and WotC has been angling towards Arena for a while now).

This is a poor investment choice from WotC if they do shut down MTGO. They're 4 years too late to create a disruptuve innovation and get into streamlined CCGs. The market is now oversaturated with SolForge, Shadowverse, HEX, Gwent, and the juggernaut Hearthstone taking in money consistently.

By now it's too late, and their money would be better suited towards improving the innovations they already have (MTGO).

It's not a "solid chance", it's *a* chance. There's a huge difference between the two phrases, you know? From where I'm standing, even a 1% chance of getting to see salt or autism from this event is enough for me to keep watching, I may care a bit about identity politics seeping into games, or into comics, because I am somewhat invested into them, but beyond basic human empathy for its fans, I legitimately don't care if the whole MTG community goes down in flames or gets overtaken entirely by SJWs or whatever the fuck. I just want to see some fucking tardfights.

Also, Like I mentioned earlier, and like Jaimas just said, I personally like that you are being the devil's advocate in many threads and going against the prevalent zeitgeist, but for some reason, and this is limited to this thread, you come off as being extremely invested in what Jeremy does, even attempting to make a thread on him. I acknowledge that when i comes to the 'gates, we may see conspiracies when they aren't there, but I don't think that anyone was that invested in this particular 'gate, I myself can guarantee you that I don't have giant conspiracy boards, and as far as I can tell, nobody here has. Yes, some of us have opinions that were colored by previous culture wars, but no one here was particularly euphoric about things, you can check the whole thread and let me know if you find specific examples.

In short, you can't be seen as a fighter of the zeitgeist if there is no zeitgeist to be fought in the 1st place. You only come off as someone who's salty that the discussion is even happening.

It gets crazier.

The way I see it, whereas Gamergate managed to get the important wins, if not all of them, and Comicsgate seemingly on the way to a full victory, Magicgate (or whatever you wanna call it) has failed miserably for a variety of reasons, now it may have a 2nd wind in it, but it most likely won't take for many reasons.

I expect that a lot of nerd market share was already lost to those games, specifically Hearthstone, because Blizzard knows how to make online time sinks, it's basically a formula for them by now.

I expect only the communal factor of live games is what's keeping MTG alive, and they're now fucking with those customers too.
