I regret to inform you all that we may be somewhat back

I’m going to have to play some standard it would seem, or at minimum draft the set

Every time I go out to play with my buddies and buy a pack I pull some ridiculous chase cards. My friends always seethe because I don't even collect. They just end up at the bottom of a drawer back home.

Tonight there weren't enough people at FNM to have an event so I just played some commander with my buddy and bought some expensive pack to support the store. Didn't even know what I was opening, my buddy just picked the same one and we usually open our winning packs at Chili's when we're done.

Pulled Chrome Mox and my friend almost had a stroke. Decided to be a nice guy and give it to him because to me it's just overpriced cardboard. Said he's sending it to PSA.

All in all, great night at the store.

Jeskai Artifact Commander in EoE triggers autism however bullshit with Jumbo Cactaur is going to be fun.

After seeing the new spoilers for Tarkir, I legitimately had to have a slight giggle at Alesha, who smiles at death being dead. There's a terrible joke there somewhere, but I think I'll hang onto it.

Edge of Eternities has potential imo. Astronomy has tons of big and cool stuff to pull from. Tarkir is also nice. Love me some Abzan gameplay.
The fact that so many people have no faith in Wizards doing a good job with the original Magic IP is so incredibly damning and explains why UB has been (and will likely continue to be) a massive success.
Yeah, MtG is unrecognizable only by mana symbols and card frames. It's sad because I would love to play Abzan again that deck was so fucking fun. I think current MtG is what you get when a parent company loses all confidence in how it can make money on its own. They eviscerated consumer confidence by forcing DEI down their customer's throats and flooding products. The accountant side in me would love to see how much inventory they have and that they are subject to overproduction.

My locals is dead, hence why I don't play but the amount of product deters me.

While I'm not on the absolutely despise side of UB niggas, and I'm somewhat hyped for the FF set, because I get to collect all the chocobos and that will make my autism happy, I will say, why the fuck did they do their marketing run like this? They unironically killed tarkir dead. I go to about 3 different stores nearby and am friends with at least 2 of the owners and they've said they will pick up a booster display of tarkir AT BEST and save the rest of their load for FF. Many players around me agree, they've said "I'll pick up a booster because of course, but I'm just buying singles, I don't care about the set", aetherdrift is fucking dead too, there was a pre at one of the stores (I couldn't attend because poor and also lol fuck that) and there were exactly 3 people, the owner and 2 randos. If the set release is in june, why are we teasing shit THIS FAR IN ADVANCE? Are they stupid? I know the answer to that question actually.

So because the Novels are apparently on Kindle and are pretty cheap I figured i would start to pick them up and reread them.

I am one chapter into the Brother's War and.....Mishra is a fucking little shit and always was. His FIRST interaction with The other Kid's in Tocasia's Camp is to sit his dirty ass on someone else's bed and refuse to move when he is told "Hey that's my bed Find somewhere else to sit"

It’s wild to see the professor saying things that this thread has been discussing since MKM, and I really can’t agree more. The fact that Tarkir is being ignored by marketing either means that WOTC assumes it will be strong enough to hold enfranchised players (possible), they REALLY want to pull in FF players (possible based on the price hike), or they expect Tarkir to die on impact like I assume Duskmourn and Aetherdrift did and want to focus on FF (if this is their reasoning I can’t wait to read the Maro article in a year being surprised that Dragonstorm did amazing and not getting it.)

I redownloaded arena and it’s crazy to me that this set was supposed to have teams? Nothing I’ve drafted felt good, so I can see why people aren’t drafting this set IRL. I’m honestly going to try mono-red standard just to see if I feel *anything* about the format before trying to devote effort to building Abzan (maybe even abzan red), but I do have to wonder if magic will eventually shift to a framework for exclusively UB settings, and that makes me more disappointed than it should.

May have found a new commander group to play with once a week. Though I may have ruined my chances with the group after I started laughing at the guys alarm beeping while we were playing.

The fact that Tarkir is being ignored by marketing
What is there to market? OG Tarkir was near a decade ago at this point. Seige Rhino being a fun meme, Fetches and Delve being broken in older formats.

Like the Wedges are cool and lord knows Magic the Gathering's Playerbase will just consoooom anything with Multicolor themes, but like The Khans aren't a thing anymore in the way they were before, We had Narset in this timeline ignite her spark and lose it, Anafenza is dead, Sidsi is an Undead Thrall, Zurgo is around..but he SHOULD be Allied with the Dragons given that Ojutai and He worked together to fight the Phyrexians and Surrak is working for Atarka..and is a favored servant because he is strong.

Then we have Jace, Vraska and Loot..whom we have no actual fucking idea what they are doing, we have had 3 sets since Jace and Vraska got ahold of Not Baby Yoda and we still don't actually know what the goal is.

Like the Marketing is gonna be "Remember the Khans! Remember the Dragonlords! THEY BE FIGHTING NOW!"

Edit : I say this as someone who likes OG Tarkir, it was a cool set I just don't fucking know what "Marketing" there is supposed to be because the main draw of the plane was removed and..while you can just "Bring the Khans back" it will just be another instance of WOTC undoing the ending of a Block's storyline so we can trot out the thing people liked.
