Magic The Gathering

A bunch of the leaked cards mention equipment which we already knew about because of Cloud, but how do they expect you to keep a creature alive, keep your equipment alive, or stay alive long enough in standard.
I wonder if a large amount of this set will only be commander and limited playable.

Edit: Looked through it again and I guess the idea is the equipment that makes creatures and end the game with Beatrix, Steiner, or the new equipment burn spell.
IDK they keep making equipment and it keeps being irrelevant in standard. You should know they give zero shits because it's popular to commander players. As much as we bitch about how terrible vehicles are in this thread I think their ability to dodge board wipes and effectively give your next creature haste is at least is kind of interesting. Meanwhile equipment has all the problems of auras (get 2-for-1'd idiot) but are overcosted to make up for the fact you're not really 2-for-1'ing yourself. I think since I started playing in again in Kaldheim the only equipment that was better than "technically a card you could put in your deck" was fucking Embercleave. I think if you go all time standard then Jitte, Sword of Fire and Ice and Skullclamp were also pretty good-to-bannable but that's pushing it.

The idea it seems to be drop these 2 to 4 mana equipment that makes a body and then drop Beatrix to win the game as she can equip everything to a single creature and the 3 drop equipment gives haste.
Steiner gets +1/+1 just for every equipment on the battlefield he doesn't even need it to be equipped.
Freya is a mana dork for equipment, which seems counter productive by being legendary.
Standard Cloud exists, but he doesn't do anything when played.
They also have a removal spell based on creature/equipment count and a removal/burn spell based on equipment count.

I think it still won't be meta, but it might be at least playable if they have some kind of draw engine or another way to reduce costs. Caretakers talent and Enduring Innocent work as the tokens the equipment makes are 1/1 and everything besides your top end would trigger it.

I would be more excited for the set, but the price is shit and no bans. I imagine a ban list will occur if no FF cards are meta because you have to push UB sets. I think I will make a Nahiri commander deck though.

I think someone on rebbit has already gone through the "work" of badly MTLing these but if you want your resident ESL kiwi to actually go through these let me know and I will as spanish is my lengua madre.

I'm moderately hype about the "Hero" tokens being very obviously FFXIV player characters, Suplex is also extremely kino, my wife was sperging at me about that one black card with Tidus in the art, saying that it's super horribly badly translated but it's supposed to be OVERKILL which apparently is an ff10 mechanic??? She knows more about FF than I do so I believe her. We also both pogged out about G'raha, no matter how bad the card looks, confirmation that best boy is in is good.

Beatrix, my beloved. Also im surprise that they didnt add Gilgamesh to the cloud deck. Im looking forward to the edh decks and what they have in store.

None of the precons excite me which I guess is a good thing considering the prices. I'm just holding out for the characters I like to be playable.

Double Post because I have completed The Brother's War.

Overall it's pretty solid, it mostly holds up, the final chapter of the War itself is pretty great. Urza is undeniably the good guy by the end, by the time of the final confrontation he absolutely regrets what the War has done to the world including Argoth, by the time he sees that Mishra has been Phrexianized by the Priesthood of Gix he knows that it was all necessary but he did wish there were another path.

The most interesting little detail that I missed when I was a Teenager is that Once Ashnod is introduced as Mishra's Student she takes over the POV for that side of the war, which coincides with Mishra going into full Villainy. I actually don't thing we got a POV from him after the fall of Kroog at all.

Equipment themes sometimes work in limited, but I don't think they've ever been particularly useful in standard. In Kaldheim, the Goldvein pick was a solid pick. The equip-on-enters cards have generally been pretty good, with Celestial Armor and Maul of the Skyclaves being bombs in their formats. Living Weapon variants also tend to play out pretty well. Most Limited themes never press on to Standard, which tends to bifurcate into hyper-aggro and goodstuff piles depending on how the manabases are.

I don't think equipment has worked in standard since... maybe cawblade? Without Stoneforge, it's just too inefficient. Obviously Hammertime variants exist elsewhere

Alright, I have to pop in and say that Standard Brawl with Kotis, the Fangkeeper is some of the most fun I've had since orginial eldrain standard on arena where i was playing a turn 2 oko and a turn 3 spark double copying oko. In my build I have avoided a lot of cards that are good but I think would bump me up in the pairing brackets. 3/4 times I resolve Kotis on turn 4, and with evasion manage to crack in for 4-5 damage, and the other fourth of the time I just concede to a deck that stonewalls me. I don't even hate the mirror match, as my build is just evasion. I intend to build an actual brawl deck and a commander deck asap.

BASED STANDARD BRAWL ENJOYER!

(Seriously you have no idea how much I wish the sets would stop with their own commander decks and go back to brawl decks that Throne of Eldraine had.)

Holy shit I think the entire population of Standard Brawl enjoyers are in this thread at this very moment.
It is something I would like if standard were the old style blocks so we didn't have "Blue/X with every bad counterspell printed for limited" decks.

I don't really play online at all, and my paper time has gotten down to 'monthly?'. Local events are basically down to Prerelease and Commander. I've been wanting to get into a group to play Old-school or Vintage over webcam, but haven't taken the time yet.
