Heck I wonder if they're going to do just the one commander deck like Turtles, or are they going to do "era" commander decks like Dr. Who? If the latter I could see then a TOS era, TNG era, and then a Kurtzman Trek era. (Hm, who would be deck #4? Kelvin timeline era?)
It'll be the last set of the year, so I expect there to be a few separate Commander precons as Christmas present bait. My hopes are that there won't be any cards that are good for 60-card constructed formats in the main set so I don't have to be a good paypig and buy singles for Modern. I feel fucking dirty already running Casey Jones, Vigilante in Jeskai Blink, even if it's a bulk rare.
EDIT: UB slop added for context

Honestly I'm betting that they'll do the era commander decks but also do a mini game thing with Star Trek.

I sold my MtG collection in 2005 for like $60 bucks to some fat dude. Actually I felt bad because I thought it was a dying game and the cards were basically worthless.

It had a Mox Diamond in it.

I think players may be trying to show just how little they care for the UB lines.
They don't even have to do that, it's obvious by looking at the stock on 3rd party websites like Cardmarket. You can easily locate the last 3 UB sets because each of these still have stock in four digits, while the regular sets are in three digit range (with one exception).

I bought the booster box because it was way more packs for only like 50% more than what I paid for the priced up bundle. I wish I could be ashamed but my wife convinced me that I could just make a chunk of money back by selling whatever cards I won't actually use, since I'm a faggot who really only plays dimir and sometimes mono red because goblins.

Pack hits fromm my booster box (Prices are in CAD and compared to the LGS prices in my city AKA the prices are what I'd actually pay, to be realistic in personal value)

Mana Sculpt Foil-6$
Emeritus of Truce-12$
Shattered Sanctum-12$
Great Hall of the Biblioplex-3$
Prismari, the Inspiration-18$
Decorum Dissertation-7.50$
Sylvan Library (Special Guests Edition)-50$
The Dawning Archaic-10$
Witherbloom, the Balancer-28$
Emeritus of Woe-30$
Armageddon Alt Art-10$
Stormcarved Coast-4.50$
Professor Dellian Fel Foil-15$

So 206$ in rares and after tax I paid 209.95$ so I basically made it back since I didn't tally up non-rares. I am going to use a chunk of these cards though.

Haven't really had a chance to try it out for myself, but just looking at the cards themselves Strixhaven looks like an incredibly solid limited format. The flavor and the art continue to somehow get even worse, but I really cannot fault these card designs and archetypes.

At first, I was a bit annoyed at the thought that they were going to launch so much fucking product in a year. But it seems like the A-team has actually been given more time to cook as a result of this arrangement, since they've really been on a roll with hard-hitters last year like FF, EoE, Avatar. The tradeoff is that the b-team sets are nigh-unplayable: Aetherdrift, Tarkir, Spider-Man were all dogshit -- but this still works out to 3 really good sets a year, which is way above-par.

We've already had two extremely mediocre draft sets this year, so the hope is that Strix, The Hobbit, and Reality Fracture are all the good ones and Marvel / Trek are handed off to the B-team.

So I'm at a bit of an impasse in terms of deck building. I don't really play commander due to conflicts of fun, but it's all people want to play so I've been trying to throw something together. Right now my current idea is Nekusar with Chains of Mephistopheles because I have fun when nobody can play magic. Is that too harsh?

Edit: phone posted the post too early lol

Depends on the playgroup, but stax/group slug is a good way to either get rejected from the table or focused down immediately every game. If you are more of an Archenemy guy, or playing CEDH/High Power where people don't get to complain (in theory), not a bad idea. Otherwise, you'll have to be a little more subtle.

If you're throwing Chains at randoms and not close friends, I hope you have the dignity of at least using a real one.

Fair. Most of the opinions about control/stax in commander I got came off reddit so this was more just a sanity check for me. I'm fairly lax about getting caught in a combo or lock which makes it hard to judge what's too much for the average person, ya know? I'll just throw together an evil and less evil list for brackets 3 and 4.

I opened a few play packs to support the local store during commander night and while I didn't get anything great (grave researcher is $3 and I actually can use some red/blue cards in my current decks) the mystic archive designs are gorgeous in person. Shame I can't get the japanese ones without the collector packs and fuck those.

Abrade, Spell Pierce, and Giant Growth are all so pretty. Sheolred's Edict is the only of the four that is particularly interesting to get, but at least they went hard on the designs.

I bought one box because I was able to get it for right at $100 and nearly had a dud with my main good pulls being two of the new Ral, a Professor Dellian Fel, a couple Flow States and a Germination Practicum. Last pack of the box had a Force of Will though, so I'm in the money at least. I pulled much better at prerelease, my kit had a Witherbloom and a Silverquill, and my prize packs had an Emeritus of Woe.

I'd actually wager a $2 rare against you that something might show up from starfleet academy.

But then I would also bet it would be more in the commander set than in the regular expansion.

Here's my logic:
I counter with.

Did Avatar have anything related to Korra or even the new movie?

I was surprised they didn't even sneak in Legend of Korra in a Secret Lair. Fucking Blood Bowl got a Secret Lair when the 40k commander decks came out.
Given that Korra was an abject failure that only retards like?
