Man, as much as I love having my mtg cards (I got into it pretty late. I found a good deal for a like a 1000 cards for $100 + buying individuals of ones I really wanted and needed, a few booster packs, one of those starter pack things with a shit ton of lands. I probably have a total of like $300 invested in the game) It's just such a scam. Because unless I am willing to pay the equivalent of my rent each month, I'll never have a competitive deck, except maybe some shitty burn deck, but where's the fun in that. I mean sure I could play pauper (which is what I did a lot), but that gets old, because all of the really interesting cards are Rares and Mythic rares and shit.
I guess there's draft too, but that has never appealed to me. Crafting an interesting deck that you have put a lot of thought into is one of the best parts of the game. Even then, that's like what $30 or $40 dollars everytime you want to go to your local neckbeard station and play?
I just find it too much of a hassle to play physical Magic. I mean having to go through every card I have, everytime I want to make a deck, having to dissemble a deck to make a new one, which can be fun, but having to spend that long to make a deck that I"ll end up playing 4 or 5 times and then having to dissemble to make another one later gets old.
I just see no reason that I should be playing physical magic when I can play Cockatrice where I actually get to keep my decks, have access to any card in the game, and even better can just straight up download other people's deck ideas from tappedout and edit them to my liking. I will say that playing with the community on there can be really daunting at first, as you are almost always going to HAVE to play some super-autistic pro-level deck to have a shot, and they get kinda impatient sometimes. It's way more fun to be playing with someone you know and are talking to while you play, instead of having to communicate through arrows and chat, but I mostly play with my wife so that's just fine with me.
Also pro-tip use
Magiccards.info to search for cards while deck building in cockatrice, it's better than the built-in feature.
It makes me kinda sad because I'm not supporting the game and it's kinda endearing to have the cards in your hand. I also really like the Old Artwork too. However, I'm not too big a fan of the new art. It's okay, but nothing special.
