main characters you like in video games and why.

Why make your favorite player character/MC live with you?! Not to sound judgemental, but let the fictional character live their life instead of some redditor's exclusive onahole.
I'm honestly not sure who my favorite vidya MC is; was wracking my autism-infested brain to pick one last night, but couldn't do it.

That said, there's a ton of MCs I like and respect, and with very few exceptions, one of the reasons I like those MCs is because they aren't the kind of "people" who would be content doing nothing except smoking pot on my couch and buying video games with me. Characters like Ryu, Chris Redfield, The Saint's Row Boss, oldschool Lara, John Marsten, Samus, Goro Majima, Postal Dude, JC Denton, Lo Wang, and Claptrap are memorable specifically because they're not homebodies. And while I certainly understand the appeal of, say, turning Gaige from Borderlands into an onahole, I wouldn't want her to exist only as an onahole. She'd have to spend at least a few hours each day building death robots and shooting Bonerfarts in the face, otherwise it'd get boring.

-edit- actually, thinking about it some more, I'm probably just going to go with Claptrap as my favorite MC.

I hated Claptrap all throughout Borderlands 1, and clear up until the birthday party mission in BL2. But the moment he offered me that high-five, damn. Been a Claptrap mark ever since.

It's a shame he's only been playable in one title so far, but that's enough to qualify him as an MC, right?

Him and a female main character were DLC in "Dance Central Spotlight". His animations were cute.
I do like the main cast of "Dance Central" due to them being charming/dorky ex: MacCoy.

(forgot that MacCoy isn't that popular so have an antagonist and a protagonist doing final poses)

I've just finished Ghost of Tsushima and I genuinely liked Jin Sakai. Despite going through some bad shit like all of his friends and family dying, being stripped of his title and family legacy/estate & his adoptive father trying to kill him he always remains a nice guy with a good sense of humour and a sense of kindness. I grew attached to him in a way I usually don't.

The Heroes from Darkest Dungeon

For simple character types, they've all been given a lot of personality, and the game does a good job at having you grow attached to them

i know jak get alot of shit for the hole "IM GONNA KILL PRATIX!" but i do like jaks bad boy but a softy on the inside and no bullshit attitude. his loyal to his friends and helps them whenever they need it and Daxter is also a total bro that could have ditched jak multiple times but stuck with him even when they both were close to dying.

Hector, because the weapon triangle doesn't apply to him:

I'm happy to call him the main character because in all my playthroughs he ends up dragging the other two dipshits through the game by their hair.

This studious little robot would rather put himself through hell to fix a bad situation than call his creator back from a party:

Said creator never gave him hands to grab ledges, and I despise him for that.

I've always liked Ben from Full Throttle. Can't really say what his personality is but I still remember the character fondly. Maybe it's because he doesn't look like the leading man in what is sort of a noir detective story.

Both Yuri Lowell and Flynn Scifo from Tales of Vesperia. Why? Mostly because they're fun to play with. Especially Flynn. Rising Phoenix -> Buring Phoenix -> Blazing Pillar Smash - Fiery Lion -> Firebird Flight is such a cool and flashy combo to pull off.

While still on Tales of Vesperia, honorable mention to Rita Mordio because I found her a fairly comical character earlier on in the story.

Second on Arthur Morgan. He's loyal to a fault and, for a bandit, an absolute heart-sweet. When he's mean, he's got an incredibly sharp wit. But he's very internally reflective and seems to think lowly of himself and more highly of others. You spend so long with him and his memorable inflection, I really missed him when he was gone. I watched a bunch of cutscenes on youtube just because I missed hearing him talk. I still say "sure" like he does. Arthur is bae.

Adam Jensen had a similar appeal to me. Just a capable but older man with a certain way old talking. I even have his Dota 2 announcer pack but I prefer the Bastion Rucks one. I love DE way more than HR but Denton lacks that charisma.

The Postal Dude is one of the best video game characters of all time because he is like a lolcow+kiwifarmer but as a video game protagonist.

Doomguy genuinely warms my heart for his dedication to the greater good and how he's characterized without words. His actions speak louder than words, from going apeshit for Daisy, to the start of Doom 2016, to backing up Vega, to having a little memorial to Daisy in the Fortress of Doomatude, to refusing to give up, ever. He's now the video game equivilant of Superman, but gorier and more demon killing and guns involved and I like that.
