Plus, he almost decks that annoying kid.Mario, mainly his Super Mario RPG incarnation, he's cool and funny
It's been a bit since I played the game, but that sounds hilarious.Plus, he almost decks that annoying kid.

Damn that game is good lmaoWhen Gaz puts Mario down one time too many, Mallow has to physically restrain Mario:
I like him for a lot of the same reasons I like Haseo from .hack//GU. Haseo in particular is a total cunt who has very selfish motivations for progressing early on. He just wants to get his fake internet girlfriend out of a coma and is willing to do whatever. It's really satisfying seeing him grow and change throughout the games. I really am a sucker for the "total asshole mellows out" style of protagonist.one of the more underrated main characters from the tales series is Luke fon fabre from tales of abyss

Luke is special in that he start off as a total asshole. his a noble who has been looked up in his manor for seven years and had everything given to him on a silver platter. his very immature, snobby, selfish and rude to people around him (expect his swordmaster and mother who he loves dearly). one day, he confronts an assassin who tries to kill his master and that gets him and the assassin send to the other side of the world. surpassingly, the assassin is very friendly with luke and offers to bring him back home since she feels guilty sending him across the world. immediately, Luke is hostile and treats her like dirt (but to be fair, he dosent know her and she tried to kill one of the few people he loves) but its when you reach the first village when things get interesting. like clockwork, Luke acts rude to the locals, demanding a women to teach him how to cook, calling the peasants dirty and even takes an apple from a store and eats it without paying, saying the farmers can just make more apples anyway. Tear (the assassin) is shocked how selfish and ignorant Luke is and begging's to wonder if that's because his upbringing or, there is something more to this.
what makes Luke a good character is that there is alot of depth to him. the entire game is basically him growing as person who knew nothing of the world to a decent human being. its also notable his one of the few characters in JRPG that hates killing people. the first fight he has with another human being terrifies and the moment he kills him, it left him in total shock. you dont see that much in RPGs these days. even hours and many humans killed later, luke never gets used to the feeling and the battle animation after fighting people ends differently if luke gets the last kill.
i would recommend this game since it has one of the better stories in the series and people tend to ignore this one. i have not even touched on most the spoiler stuff from the game that makes lukes character even more impressive.
Tales of the Abyss, and Luke’s story and growth is, IMO, probably one of the best in video games. At the very least, the best in a JRPG. I admit I played it at a time in my life where I was struggling with some things, so it maybe spoke to me more than it will to some, but it’s one of the few games that really moved me on a personal level.one of the more underrated main characters from the tales series is Luke fon fabre from tales of abyss
