As others have said most of them don't want help.Honest question, I'm wondering if anyone here has studied mental health who knows this.
Is there a reason that something like CBT can't help these people? No pun intended, I swear. I actually have wondered for awhile why people act like pedophilia is innate and untreatable. I would assume that frequent thoughts about having sex with children could be treated like any other intrusive thoughts, or that weird ideas about consent could be treated as any other cognitive distortion. I guess I don't understand why a depressed person's brain thinking things like "I'm a worthless, hopeless fuckup who deserves to die" is considered treatable, but pedophilia isn't.
Well, this is assuming they haven't hurt anybody. If they have, they need more than just therapy. But I'm talking in the case of people who say they can't change and it's no different from being straight or gay.
Also, I'm sure a part of it is that people are sickened by them and could never work with them without feeling homicidal.
