The Slay the Spire devs are also dunking on Bungie

Extraction shooters have always been a meme, the issue is they dont have high playerbases until fucking Arc. Tarkov never had actual high player numbers ever but it had insane streamer numbers this is the only reason why extraction shooters became a meme.

Arc just decided to go "hey maybe you *dont* have to shoot people" these other games had prox chat but rarely was it ever worth it to team.

This is also true, Tarkov I think has an estimated 22k players. Hunt showdown peaks at around the same. So I wouldn't be suprised if Marathon sits in the 20k range once it's player numbers settle

Watching people on Steam defend Bungie’s use of kernel level anti-cheat and Windows might be the most retarded shit I’ve seen this week
It's weird. Kinda like systemd and other Poetteringware on Linux, you'll always find a reliable, steady supply of people willing to fellate garbage like that, Secure Boot, TPM, Easy Anticheat, Denuvo, etc. and defend it to the fucking death for whatever bizarre reason.

"This thing reduces my system's functionality and takes control of it away from me, THIS IS AWESOME!" ... fucking weirdos.

Marathon and Bungie dick riders know no bounds. Trust me, playing Destiny all these years, I’ve had countless people tell me to just consume the shit they put out. Shit, All the Destiny fagtubers tried to justify sunsetting most of the games content back in 2021 FOR Bungie. They’re Sycophants, almost cultists.

Bungie convincing Sony that they were worth a billion let alone 3 is just the funniest shit. Destiny isn't even worth 100 million yet they were able to con Sony into paying them 3 billion dollars for one of the greatest exit scams in gaming.
Sony is equally retarded as Xbox, they only difference is that they have less indian staff.

I think at least for most normies they don't care about Kernal level anticheat because it's become such a normal part of their life that it's not something worth worrying about anymore. I get that that's a gay answer but that's kinda it. I know I'm guilty of that sometimes when I see some people talking about the Chinese stealing my data or game companies spying on me and I just think "I have a smart phone and I use windows, they're already spying on me so who cares."

I get that it's a shitty mindset to have, though.

that got a hearty kek out of me.
Not only is the OG trilogy free, the source code was released back when gestures like that were common. This world will never have another John Carmack (I know he wasn't Bungie, but still).

Anyway stay tuned for Bungie's next hit, a battle royale in the world of Oni!

I didn't describe the worst of it (not willing to dox myself by giving specifics). Government waste is nothing compared to the excesses of private industry.
Goverment waste is your tax payer money getting thrown in a blender, company waste is EA's problem, they are nowhere near comparable from what should fill you with rage even if in raw cash you have seen worse.

After getting into Destiny all those years ago, and repeatedly watching bungie fuck over the game until I quit in 2020, it's cathartic to watch them fumble so badly that Destiny 2 is being beaten out by fucking Bloons Tower Defense and Marathon can't even hold 30,000 players reliably

It’s quite weird. Steam is a platform that is the most open gaming platform on PC. Yet you’re the problem if you want to run the game on a non-Windows pc. Very strange

But hey, it’ll make the grave dance better when the game gets sunset in the future.

Monday is when it's really gonna be tested. It'll probably hit just under 70k during peak hours today, but they've saved a lot of their "marketing" (i.e. paying streamers to pretend it's fun) budget for the weekend. Come hell or high water, between the review embargoes and paying whoever the hell they have to, they will stop at nothing to get it over 100k on Saturday, from there, they'll try and set the narrative that it's "only increasing!" How big the Monday collapse ends up being though is where the true story lies.

The art style for this is literally just the corporate garbage flat design from windows 8 and 10 but in 3D. Idiots are going to be nostalgaic for flat design in 5 years and I feel like this is the first sign of it like they are with Windows XP now despite it being seen as a lifesucking corporate bland office product even back then. Some retarded youtubers even said its supposed to invoke a corporate feeling of being disposable like its a good thing.

Hostility towards Linux gaming in general is especially hilarious since it never actually works out for the hostile party anyway. Tim Sweeney famously nuked Linux support from Easy Anti-Cheat when he bought it via Epic, specifically to ensure no game using it could run on the Steamdeck (which is Linux under the hood). I note (on an ARM desktop that, incidentally, runs Windows-native games quite well with a dedicated GPU installed) there's a Steam support library installed called 'Easy Anti-Cheat Linux" -- the crazy bastards just fucking wrapped the damned thing themselves so it'd continue working despite Epic's obvious anti-competitive practice. To date, Timmy's little anti-Linux maneuver hasn't broken a single game that worked prior to his change.

They're out of their fucking minds:

I can only assume it was conceived by one of the aforementioned "non-PR-department PR" troglodytes who should have never been hired in the first place.
This is only going to stir up controversy and is ultimately pointless. It's utterly fucking stupid. Good job.

don't forget the program the use to make content for Destiny 2 is so bizarre it takes hours to boot up or some nonsense (I'm paraphrasing from an interview from years ago) and it takes them eons to make new maps and guns because of what they program with and how they do it, its why they are so proud of maps like the one in Witch Queen despite it being tiny as fuck.
Their tools are hot garbage, and since they keep reusing the same engine they're stuck with them. The main issue is not booting up. It's the process called baking. Excepting ray traced games and games with global ilumination (still a form of RT), most games and especially ones running on older engines use a pre-rendering system to "bake in" the lightning and the overall look of maps and objects. They don't process the look in real time, it's based on pre-rendered information.

The report mentioned that any change they made to maps or objects would take hours to bake, sometimes taking overnight, effectively stopping any additional work. This was one of the reasons they claimed making new content for Destiny was "hard". The truth is they're limited by the way their tools are designed and built, an old engine and tools that don't seem to scale with newer hardware. And they don't seem to have the know-how to solve it, something that any other studio developing an engine (except Bethesda) seem to have figured out.

Whether this is true or just excuses by thoroughly incompetent devs is anyone's guess. But this is what was said almost a decade ago to justify why content development and cadence in Destiny was so abysmal. If it is true, then it's further inexplicable why they haven't made it a major priority to rework the engine and tools. The people who originally built them must've been wizards and left, while everyone still there and new hires are mental midgets incapable of grasping things created 2 decades ago.
