I can only assume it was conceived by one of the aforementioned "non-PR-department PR" troglodytes who should have never been hired in the first place.
No, ironically I can actually picture this coming from the actual marketing department for once. This is stupid enough to come from an advertising executive. They'd be the group that cares most about the content of "professional" reviews and Youtuber reviews. They're probably getting early indications internally (their shitty player counts come to mind) that this shit sucks, so they asked the devs some basic questions about how to phrase "please play the whole game before you review it" correctly to make it sound like they know what they're talking about, and then posted this hoping to corral the "loyal" shills.

They're out of their fucking minds:

This is only going to stir up controversy and is ultimately pointless. It's utterly fucking stupid. Good job.
Holy fuck these people are so retarded.

'Please don't review the half-assed, unfinished game we released just now, only review it when we release the content that should've been included on launch!!!'

First impressions are so fucking important and only a handful of games ever turned around their dogshit reputation through constantly adding free stuff and dedicated support like No Man's Sky and it took them literal YEARS to turn around their bad rep.

I doubt Bungie got the goodwill and money left to do the same if it's not that said support must be funded by paid DLC's, aggressive microtransactions or expansion pass slop content.

I want everyone to remember I was a D1, first in line Hater of this, I will win the Player Hater Ball.
I’m with you dude. Bungie will burn for fucking over Destiny, it could’ve been the greatest, if it wasn’t for nigger worship and tranny dick sucking.

Moving to Washington killed the old Bungie lmao.

Edit: and trendchasing, rumor has it that some retard exec played tarkov and told the team “we’re gonna make our own tarkov.” I hope that retard was fired by Sony.

The art style for this is literally just the corporate garbage flat design from windows 8 and 10 but in 3D. Idiots are going to be nostalgaic for flat design in 5 years and I feel like this is the first sign of it like they are with Windows XP now despite it being seen as a lifesucking corporate bland office product even back then. Some retarded youtubers even said its supposed to invoke a corporate feeling of being disposable like its a good thing.

In 100% fairness, I actually think the whole 'disposably industrial' angle works for Marathon because humanity being engineered out of existence is kind of the point. The player characters are functionally immortal cyborgs whose only remaining human part is their minds, going through a 'live die repeat' cycle. The one contact who isn't AI is the one who manages to look the most inhuman with four arms and being the face of a death cult. And all your mission objectives are about just stealing shit from a dead colony that looks more alien than the actual natural landscape with automated drones hunting you down.

Which just makes it all the more ironic at how corporate the actual underlying mechanisms of the game were from the start.

They're out of their fucking minds:

What, is Marathon now the video game equivalent to the infamously awful CATS movie where it has to get DLC during the honeymoon period to be a finished product?

I think it's infected all of Sony. Even when pushed face-first into evidence that live service is overcrowded and players want more standalone experiences like Expedition 33, Astro Bot, etc. they're constantly doubling down on this live service garbage because of the raw economics on paper.

>Be Sony
>Buy Bungie for $3.6 billion, essentially to hire them as glorified consultants
>Most of the team leaves anyways as soon as the bonuses you gave them to stay on expire
>They tell you to cancel a dozen in development games, stating they're unsalvageable
>Tell you the one with the most promise is Concord
>Over the next 18 months, you dump an extra $200 million into its already bloated budget, now totaling over $400 million
>It becomes the literal biggest flop in entertainment media history and eclipses TORtanic's legacy
>Literally a synonym for flop
>They let their steady source of easy cash die, promising something even bigger
>Dump another $250 million into their passionless passion project
>Have to settle a massive plagiarism suit because of them, and significantly delay the game
>Open beta gets savaged
>Launches to absolutely middling numbers, high likelihood of a steep drop
>They openly advertise shipping an incomplete game (despite having several extra months to fix it up) as a feature and beg reviewers to not review the game that's actually available, but instead review vague promises of what might be

I'm simultaneously appalled by their brazenness, but also impressed how thoroughly they managed to completely con Sony.

The two retarded companies are honestly a pretty good fit for eachother, rest in piss.

The reality is, we've gotten here because of Corpo-Culture.

No one, and I mean no one, is allowed to poo poo on anything in these companies, no one is allowed, or willing to say "its shit", and no one is allowed to admit fault publicly, as it can be used to fuck that person, or the company, its entirely an industry of both unforced errors, and errors that cannot be even pointed out in the making.

Extraction shooters have always been a meme, the issue is they dont have high playerbases until fucking Arc. Tarkov never had actual high player numbers ever but it had insane streamer numbers this is the only reason why extraction shooters became a meme.

Arc just decided to go "hey maybe you *dont* have to shoot people" these other games had prox chat but rarely was it ever worth it to team.
Tarkov is a poor comparison because it's run by five drunken Russians with a budget of $500. They can afford to have a relatively small playerbase because it costs basically nothing.

Marathon cost 300+ mill and 50k reoccurring is not going to be sufficient to keep the servers running let alone pay off the development costs.

Considering Bungie hit near Graphical perfection in 2007 with Halo 3's lighting system and was somehow better than that of Reach, the new art style being Windows 10 corporate flat design mixed with high fidelity roblox feels like a betrayl to an oldfag like me considering the insane amount of passion and detail that was in the old Halo games.

Whatever bloated budget Marathon has should be making a work of timeless art like Halo 3 but no fuck you, you get Windows 10 flat design roblox.

I think it looks really damn good. That stuff combined with the lighting and weather effects just works for me, love the contrast. Skyboxes are amazing too, of course.

Yes, they probably stole most things and a couple of characters look like trannies, but at least it's going for something and committing to a look. Too many games just look like whatever UE5 variants, regardless of what engine they use. I look at something like Crimson Desert and I just can't feel anything.

You understand that every single project that Bungie advised Sony on got cancelled, shut down, or has failed right?
There's too much precedent out there to say that this doesn't matter. What business/corpo bullshit superpower that conjures value out of thin air is somehow facilitated by Bungie existing.
I think their ultimate fate is a rebranding or some merger in lieu of an outright shutdown. They laid off a bunch of Bungie employees due to Destiny 2 shitting the bed so something must be evening out somewhere. Maybe, like Tencent with Ubisoft, there's some stipulation somewhere that means Bungie fucking up essentially surrenders more and more control to Sony. Bungie might've opted out of associating with doomed to fail projects in order to give Sony less ammo in eating them whole. This is all speculative though. I could look it up but I can't be arsed.

I expect to see something from that this year, but I suspect that since it is similar to Battlerite and Supervive, I wonder how successful it will really be since those games failed, even though they were quite fun actually. Just not a broad appeal.
I was actually thinking of Battlerite further up-thread, and I miss it. As a MOBA non-enjoyer I loved having a small scale teamfight simulator that cut all of the laning bullshit I hated

Keep in mind you need to at least multiply 50k by every platform it's on. Yes I know that's stupid and being generous but that's really the only way to get a scope of something approaching the true player count.

So it's on Steam, Xbox and Playstation. So that's 150,000 players

Assuming the peak player numbers from yesterday all refunded the game, and that 50k is the new peak on Steam, that means the game has sold $5,998,500

So yes it's heaviily underperforming but also that price is based on the base edition of the game not the deluxe.

The amount of cubes I saw in the art design makes me genuinely wonder if they are trying to channel Roblox and bring in some of the brainrot Roblox audience tbh considering all of Valve's $10b empire is apparently only a quarter of the total roblox population

The cube stuff is probably based on some weird idea that I saw once where most buildings for space colonization would have to be 3d printed on world using materials on the planet, and that it's easier to do blocky/round shapes than it is to do elaborate architecture when you're trying to build a colony quickly.

Like even a lot of our current space probes and stations are very blocky for some reason

NASA also just likes using Hexagons for some reason, this was some concept art for a moon base.
