That's probably it, more or less. Something like an MMO can quickly turn into versioning hell with all the systems being worked on simultaneously. If I remember correctly, isn't Bungie's excuse that the files aren't LOST, but they are only compatible with older versions of the Destiny client so they can't get them to run today? Although that just implies that Bungie doesnt keep old builds beyond a certain date... does that seem likely?
Yeah that was the explanation someone gave a few pages back. They introduced an new lighting system and swapped to an engine that was incompatible with the old content, but I remain sceptical they couldn't have ported the old content over if they actually wanted to, or even had a 'Destiny 2 Classic' version like Runescape has.If I remember correctly, isn't Bungie's excuse that the files aren't LOST, but they are only compatible with older versions of the Destiny client so they can't get them to run today? And deny us the pleasure of Concord 2.0 and the ensuing journoscum chimpouts? Booooo, shame, shame!Just cancel it. This game is already a huge money pit and a total joke.
Sadly that won't happen. Even after Concord and the cancellation of multiple live services with years of development costs sunk into them Sony still turned a profit for the 2024 financial year. Not only that, it was a record-breaking profit; up about 18% on the previous year.I can't wait for Marathon and Fairgames to finally kill Sony.
Sony won't die, but it's gaming division might. They don't have to stop making games, it's enough if they stop making consoles(real consoles) and go multiplatform like Xbox, which doesn't exist as a brand anymore. We're halfway there already, you can count the actual PS5 exclusives on one hand and everything else also came out on PC.Sadly that won't happen. That's why they are barrelling ahead with these doomed projects, just like Microsoft has kept Xbox around despite it bleeding money for 2 console generations. The losses are a drop in the ocean in the bigger financial picture.
Marathon's status:
Damn. I was kinda hoping it’d release in September like planned so we could see it crash and burn and laugh while the studio closes. Just like Concord.
It's worse for them with Marathon, because they bought Bungie for 3.6 billion which is a lot more than 400 million. When this flops it will be at least 10 times the failure Concord was. That's why they are barrelling ahead with these doomed projects
Maybe it will be a surprise December launch and we will get a Christmas present.Damn. I was kinda hoping it’d release in September like planned so we could see it crash and burn and laugh while the studio closes. Just like Concord.
Jesus, 3.6 billion? I love Bungie's old pre-Destiny games and Halo titles but even I wouldn't pay that much for them if I could. The fuck are these suits smoking? It's worse for them with Marathon, because they bought Bungie for 3.6 billion which is a lot more than 400 million. When this flops it will be at least 10 times the failure Concord was.
The $3.6 billion is offset by whatever money Destiny 2 has generated since 2022, and continues to generate, compared to Concord which made literally $0. And even still Sony declared profits of $7.7 billion in FY2024, which is enough to buy Bungie twice over and still have enough left to fund another Concord flop. It's worse for them with Marathon, because they bought Bungie for 3.6 billion which is a lot more than 400 million. It's going to cost some bigshot a yacht, and that will make him angry. That will lead to a shake-up to find out where the money went, and eventually he will see the moneypit known as Bungie that isn't pulling their own weight. We will see people losing their jobs and pressure to do whatever it takes to chase current trends, as in the post-Trump current trends, to make up for this flop. We're not talking about Nintendo, Soyny can't just shrug off failure after failure back to back without consequences.I don't think Bungie was the wise investment Sony apprently saw it as, but it's not going to sink the company. Not by a longshot.
Do you think all game devs are Orks? And not "soz lads the game isn't ready".
OI! You tink any self-respektin' Mekboy would be caught workin' for a bunch of grots like Sony, ya git?!Do you think all game devs are Orks?
I thought Gutrippa was head of HR?OI! You tink any self-respektin' Mekboy would be caught workin' for a bunch of grots like Sony, ya git?!
"Bankruptcy's back on the menu, lads!!!"Do you think all game devs are Orks?
Destiny 2 is not really making that much money, and they have definitely sunk a couple hundred million into Marathon minimum. The $3.6 billion is offset by whatever money Destiny 2 has generated since 2022, and continues to generate, compared to Concord which made literally $0. It's been averaging somewhere between $100-300 million the last few years. Sony's projections will obviously be much higher given what they paid for the studio so I'm not surprised it's failing to hit projections, but it's still making money.Destiny 2 is not really making that much money, and they have definitely sunk a couple hundred million into Marathon minimum.
The biggest consequence to Sony's live service failure has already happened- Sony ousted all the faggot-americans and retarded euro CEOs from top brass and replaced them with Japanese sociopaths, like God intended.Either way, as I said, Sony are making billions in profits so even if the entire Bungie experiment fails, Destiny and all, it's not going to kill the corporation as a whole.
And yet they're not hiring actual artists. Curious.EDIT: Good News Everyone! We are now charting vessels to the currently-sinking ship. Welcome aboard!
