So I've played for 2 hours so far. Here are my thoughts.

First Probably not going to buy the game, maybe I'll get it if friends ask me too but as it stands now, no.

Pros:

Gunplay feels good; it's bungie, so that's a given. The guns are all as @Zenos Yae Viator said in the previous page, Destiny guns at heart, and that's fine for me since I played a lot of Destiny, but at the same time, I get why that would piss people off because it is lazy.

The abilities feel pretty good. I like the Recon chick with her drone and scout pulse.

Looting is basic but fine. I like that the game will autosell junk at the end of a match.

The free loadout is a lot weaker than in Arc Raiders, which is nice.

Contract progress being able to be done by anyone in your squad is nice and something I was surprised they actually took from Arc Radiers.

I like that there is shit to unlock as you play, there are free skins for guns and runners. You can get icons and banners, as well as titles. Bare minimum shit.

The factions are interesting and leveling them up gives you little bits of story so that's fun. The rewards they give you on level up are also nice.

I like that your healing items will autocycle based on if your shields or health are lower.

Cons:

Not being able to buy at least green shields and a basic backpack at the start of the game is retarded. There have been fights that I've lost because I only have white shields and my enemies had green, it's actually insane. white shields also mean you are instadownable by snipers both AI and player, which sucks. I don't know if that gets fixed with higher shield tiers.

You start off slow, and I assume your able to adjust all your stats with mods but it feels sluggish.

Sprinting being tied to heat is something I understand but ultimately think needs to be changed.

Visual clarity is a bitch. Characters can sometimes blend into the enviornment and it makes fights annoying, especially with how fast you die.

The AI is nuts in this game. There are rooms that have objectives that you have to do that WILL spawn highlevel mobs infinitely, The AI if it can't find your teammates WILL thirst you and I'm pretty sure they drain your maximum health while your down when they do that. That would explain why I rarely encountered players, the AI was killing them all.

hyper fast TTK will be the death of the game, ARC has lower ttk speed but still high and runs into the problem of "I have all these gadgets and no time to use any of them", and this one will have that problem in spades, nothing matters if everything that involves not shooting first is animation locked slower than TTK.

Their obsession with having a firing delay after reloading even if you have the timing to know when to do so is so fucking infuriating. I get it's for balancing purposes but it just fucks with me. It doesn't feel right at all to have when everything else feels smooth to me. ETA It looks like faggy Deus Ex Mankind Revolution/Mankind Divided.

Apparently “arc raiders” is filtered in Marathons chat :story:

Even happened to Ninja on stream. However, appears to be changed now. No doubt some dev hotfixed it on their backend.

The gun designs are weird but they were definitely trying to do like futuristic weapon platforms, where a lot of them are just variations of a base weapon design as opposed to a completely unique design every time. Good for world building, but when one gun has the "bullet elves" issue, it means others likely have it too.
Just typical destiny gun design where it makes no sense. If you want I could dig up Destiny weapons that have the same issue, they have done this retarded design since Destiny came out. But for the most part, they just reuse designs from Halo or Destiny 1, over ten years ago, since that was the last time they had good ideas.

Watching gameplay as a 3000 hour Destiny 2 player (to my great shame), it's like looking at Matrix code. I can see the Tiger engine at work and all the Destiny animations and weapon designs. Tons of the building designs look like they are ripped from Braytech stuff on Europa. The UESC enemies behave and move just like Cabal. I even saw one of the shield guys do the thruster move to the side like a dash, and I had a fucking flashback to Cabal doing that. The floating heal bot thing is just reskinned arc soul. I could go on and on but there isn't a point. Impossible for me to see beyond the ten year old assets they are using.

If they’re just reusing old assets and reskinning them. I wonder how much money they actually spent developing this :story:

they didn't re-use designs, they outright copied the guns from Destiny 2, the frames and everything about them, as I've already said, this game is a asset flip of Destiny 2, all the animations, abilities everything, the guns and everything about them is from D2.

People act surprised but they've been reusing assets since Halo.

Destiny was built on a modified version of Reach's engine and they reused a shit ton of animations and character models.

The Phalanx/Cabal shield dudes are literally hunters as an example

Or the Fallen Vandals and Captains are just elites

Harpies act and look similar to Sentinels etc

FROMSOFT doesn't explain shit in their games and people automatically love looking for lore on random bumfuck items
They put enough effort into their stuff that there's even a youtube channel called Tarnished Archeologist who can point out the various archeological styles and how the stratification evolves from the ancient past up to the Golden Order era in Elden Ring with clear historical parallels. He also does something similar with Bloodborne. And it's clearly well thought out on FROMSOFT's part and not random schizophrenic bullshit.

The burnt peanut has been having a few meltys with his chat talking shit about Marathon :story:

Personal Blog post/Game Review/Post Follow up:

Got to play for a few more hours and I had a lot of fun.

Everything changed when I started queueing with randos in a discord. Not the best players in the world, but people who were interested in working together and progressing the game. We had games were we would die in the first few minutes and games where we would wipe team after team before completing our objective or looting a high value supply crate or pve boss monster. My impressions are this:

The TTK is incredibly quick because they start you off with the worst shields possible, A single sniper round to the dome downs any enemy runner. The game ends up feeling more like CoD than Halo. Once you get Shields the TTK significantly improves and it starts to feel like a casual FPS. The medic shell 'triage' might be a mandatory team mate. His ability to res and heal team members from practically any where is far too valuable not to have. The Destroyer shell feels useless, I've been maining it, but I have a feeling that with enough progression and unlocks this thing might actually be OP. So not all shells are made equal. We started playing with double triage, the enemy just could not pressure us enough and would end up losing every fight. We started hunting other teams down rather than loot the map. The extracts are very troll, very exposed, it's like the devs want you to camp these and abuse people trying to extract.

The Guns feel good, any gun can kill any thing. Ammo scarcity is still a problem depending on what your trying to do, i typically bring in 300ish rounds of ammunition and some times that's just not enough. For this reason the free kits you can grab feel terrible, but I'm thankful that when I'm playing with idiots or randos I can just grab some shit kit from off the rack free of charge.

Meds can be scarce, but not as bad as ammo. I'm tired of buying this shit. It's expensive. I wish Shields would recharge on their own when fully depleted, they do have some recharge ability, but I was hoping it would be like Halo. I think if this changed it would open the game up to more people. That said I like the healing system. The game predicts what you need the most so you just need to mash a single heal button when needed.

@Professor Donger mentioned that shields and back packs aren't available at the start and it is fucking stupid. You have to have these to play this game and they are gate kept for reasons beyond me.

I dont think looting anything on the map is worth it... I made like 9k off a purple key card 'marked room' for a lack of a better term, a pack of meds cost me 1.2k to put this into perspective. We got the most loot from killing enemy players and accomplishing tasks as they were given to us. This might be retarded, but I seriously think youre better off just doing tasks, killing runners who get in your way, and ignoring anything pve.

The tasks your given pretty much amount to "go to X place and do Y thing" which often means you and your team are going to bumble around a POI before alerting nearby runner teams of your position, where you will have to duke it out. If youre lucky you'll stumble into another team as they are fighting bots. No matter what, you and your two friends are going to be on an easter egg hunt looking for the mcguffin that you need.

So far some of the story has been told mid raid, which is bad. It's hard to listen to exposition dump and plot while an enemy team is getting a fix on your position or maybe a drop ship full of bots just landed ontop of you and your team mates are sorting it out.

The vendors when you reach enough rep with them will also hook you up with free equipment and of course will sell you equipment better than anything you could find laying around in game. Maybe there is some super high value shit to be found on the map, but so far I havent seen it. I've done many supply drops, boss fights, and marked rooms. None of it seems particularly good for the amount of trouble and effort you have to go through to secure it. I think youre just better off chasing after gun shots and POI/extracts.

I was really big into UT2k3, but it just wasnt that good. Then when UT2k4 came out and to this day I believe its one of the best FPS games ever made and UT2k4 is a total asset flip of UT2k3.

I can appreciate that asset flipping might be evidence of how lazy a developer is and the quality of the game will be, but at the same time what's the point in reinventing the wheel? Why waste the development time when you already have something there that works?

I played a couple of games and it's not fun. It's not original and it's not interesting. All it does is show Bungie have completely lost their way as a studio. For all of Destiny's faults the enemies were still fun to fight. These enemies are not. There's no fun to be had in this game unless you're autistic and bright lights are fun to you.

Bad game. Like most extraction games are. Presentation is tacky and ugly. Menus are bad. Actually playing isn't fun. So why bother? Play a better more fleshed out extraction game or a better PvE coop shooter.

To be fair $20 is like $5 in 2014. You gotta spend like $17-20 just to leave the house so its practically nothing. It’s like a single meal from anywhere.
You still can buy a decent game with 20$ (depends on your taste in games, I guess) especially when there are discounts. The statement "I'd buy it if it was 20$" seems retarded when you can't state what you liked in it that is worth 20$, there's a free sample available and all.

You can buy a good game for 5.

System shock 2 remaster and The division are both under 5 right now. They seem to line up with the loot aspects of this and you can lean single player or multiplayer to get a close enough experience.

This is not a coincidence. Bungie is filled with absolute faggotry like black at Bungie. It's 100% intencional. It's one of the issues that made me quit Destiny, their constant injection of real world left wing politics talking points into a sci-fi/fantasy setting. What they did to Osiris, Saint and Anna Bray should've gotten the narrative team shitcanned and sued by the company for intentional sabotage of a good product in a sane world. Destiny 1 and Destiny 2 are tonally completely different, 1 was far superior. I really miss the feeling of the first couple of years of that game.

You can't even make a parody of Bungie at this point, anything you come up with is less ridiculous than reality. Like looking at Star Wars pre and post Disney, or Star Trek pre and post JJ Kikams.

Thank fucking God Nioh 3 came out and I'm completely hooked, to the point it's been the first time in years I've been playing late into the night and going to work like a zombie the next day. My boomer hands don't help and I suck at it, but I'm loving that game. I'm not even a little bit interested in trying Marathon for free, but I know I'll get great fun from seeing people shit on it.
