reducing the TTK
this cannot be done in these kinds of games, not on a broad scale and when it can be done, its by percentages of percentages.

why? guns are specifically balanced from inception of having a optimal TTK for head and body shots and a mix, all of them, if you fuck with it, you wildly unbalance the game in ways that wasn't intentional from the outset.

They simply fucked it, it cannot be unfucked without an entire balance restructuring, including every Gun, how everything works, top to bottom, it would take months and months, especially for Bungie.

it could be done by checking the hitbox and adding a damage mult to it - defense mult - damage drop to the minimum damage per weapon class/caliber.
but bungo is too retarded for that.

it's fucking basic bread and butter of shooters to make limb shots deal reduced damage and make headshots the real shit with a moderate damage amount on bodyshots but... bungo is too retarded for that, especially on extraction shooters where you can eat armor plates like mars bars.

lol I think you misunderstand, each and every bullet out of the gun is balanced from the very start towards the guns viability and balance, if suddenly the SMG's need another half a mag of ammo per body shot kills, it can greatly fuck the game balance.

lol if this game is so broken even the fucking menus need attention, this thing is sunk. Stick a pin in it, boys, she's done.
it do be like that.

That's basically how it worked in halo, their other game.

2 melees, 2 magazine dumps, 2 grenades, or any combination of the two to kill a spartan. Unless it was a power weapon or a pistol/br, then you could kill multiple players in a single magazine.

If they’re just reusing old assets and reskinning them. I wonder how much money they actually spent developing this :story:
Considering the kind of studio it is, simply keeping it running must cost an absurd amount of money. They still have nearly a thousand employees, doing god knows what.
But I would bet there is an unjustified budget attached to Marathon either way. Wasting money is what these studios do best, after all.

Played 6 hours yesterday, only complaints is the horrible Destiny 2 UI having you navigate menus within menus and that theres too much downtime between POI's/fights so it can get boring.
Once me and my friends got better gear and fought teams that were equally kitted out the game felt decent to me.
It has to be "millions of people will buy it for $40" level of "decent" to justify its existence.

And yeah, I want Marathon to fail. I want Bungie to fail. I fucking hate AAA studios with their outsourced armies of jeets, token trannies, retarded HR and copypaste game design, they don't deserve to represent the industry. Let them fucking burn.

It isn't even doing as well as Highguard did with its max player count. Marathon at 72,619 vs Highguard's 97,249

yes but that game was balanced around that, this one isn't, so they'd have to literally redo every gun to increase the TTK across the board.

They've had a 55.086% decrease since yesterday

Very expected, the early game is not balanced properly, there's too munch AI with too scarce resources to fight. it drains everything you have so you end up not progressing. In a way, they tried to emulate tarkov's unforgiving nature without understanding what makes it good in the first place.

I don't know how much of this you've played or any at all, but half the guns, grenades, an abilites are directly taken from the halo series. At times It feels like I'm playing Halo swat.

The plasma pistol, plasma rifle, AR, Battle Rifle, sniper rifle, magnum and host of other shit is already here in the game. There is an entire seperate stat for melee, but its almost never used becaus of how effective ranged is. It's obvious all the dmg has just been cranked to 11 and most the player base is effectively running around unshielded making things worse.

A common complaint of the closed beta as that the TTK was too slow making solo play unviable, now those same streamers are saying its way to fast.

they aren't taken from Halo, they are taken, directly, from Destiny 2, down to the frames, reload animations, firing rates and more.

So if you take the 24 hour peak the game had a 13% reduction

if you take the playing now, it's a 50.196% decrease

This aesthetic that they have chosen for Marathon is a really strange choice to me. Judging only from the art direction and colors it feels like it should be some form of puzzle/platformer rather than an FPS.

I also noticed that you see a lot of similar designs and logos on the characters that are on the environment. Now, I haven't played it but, that seems like it's going to make spotting people rather difficult.
The runners themselves resemble consumer products. The more human parts of them look like some kind of gender-fluid mutt, and I think that’s part of the horror.

You’re a person without a body, inhabiting a mass-produced, soulless nightmare built for someone else’s profit.

It's the /pol/ merimutt dying for israel meme in space.
I think I kinda get what they were going for with the art direction. The theme is basically "Everything is disposable, even you." Everything is designed purely for ease of production and modularity, the garish colors are probably because an internal research team found that they decreased the time needed to distinguish them at a distance in either indoor or outdoor environments by 1.6%. And the disposability plays into the extraction shooter logic, where you can't get attached to anything because you'll lose it before long.

Even the androgyny/tranny angle makes a certain amount of sense if everyone is alienated from their own bodies for their entire lives, but that comes across as almost self-defeating for the pro-tranny side, since the fluidity is a result of inhumane production logic and not self-identification.

I have no idea whether the style works when it comes to readability in-game, as I have no interest in playing an extraction shooter, but at least it isn't a bland overdone style like Highguard.

Yeah it's wild.

I'm not jumping on the "it'll immediately fail bandwagon" but I'm not blind to the fact that at best it'll be a medicore game like Destiny 2 is.
To defend D2 a bit: it varied wildly in quality, but when it was working properly it delivered in a way that nothing else did. When you were in a raid encounter with a team who knew the mechanics and communicated properly, using your best guns that you'd put tons of effort into getting just the way you wanted them, had a build that let you pull off crazy ability spam, and the guns and abilities were synergizing off of each other, it really was something special.

From Lightfall onward the quality really did suffer, even if there were flashes of brilliance like Into The Light and Cayde's final performance. You could tell that something was up because they'd suddenly given up on new models for non-exotic guns; the location weapons for Lightfall, the raid weapons for Lightfall, and the seasonal weapons for the accompanying season were all just old models with a different coat of paint slapped on them (plus some molding clay for the raid weapons).

It's not a Concord, but it might be a Halo Infinite. It's funnier that way.
It's a lot closer to halo infinite than it is concord for sure, but I think infinite released in a better state. The combat was balanced, but just boring as fuck and they never really fixed it.

Maybe, i avoided that series, but lets not pretend that shit wasn't inspired by halo. Some of it is from the OG marathon series.

your talking legacy, I'm talking hard coded copies, I've played alot of D2, I know a Rapid-Fire Scout Rifle when I see it in Marathon, same recoil, fire rate, even look of the gun's frame under its artificial trappings, aka asset reusing, a flip, the game is a giant Destiny 2 asset Flip, which is fine if it were a good game.

It is not.

So something that's actually pretty neat is that one of the boss enemies will pretend to be players and use player voice line options to try and bait you towards it.

Marathon Server Slam: Day 2 Feedback Recap

And now we find ourselves in the waning hours of Server Slam day 2 - and, with a huge thanks to all of you for your feedback, we wanted to keep you posted on what's been changed along with what we're looking into:
  • UI Feedback: Thank you for all of your feedback on Marathon's UI! We're continuing to learn and ingest all of your posts about this, so please keep it coming. If you get a chance, please head over to the official Discord and continue to let us know your thoughts. We still plan to iterate on the UI post-launch, but will continue to inform you about any timelines as they're available.
  • In-run voice chat bug: We have pushed out a fix for this, so make sure give your Crew and lobby a friendly hello! But, if you're still having any issues, don't hesitate to let us know in the feedback section of the Discord.
  • Mouse input causing lag on PC: Thanks to all of your reports we've been able to track this one down and have issued a fix for it! Steam users, you should have downloaded a patch that included this fix - and if you haven't yet, please restart your client. As always, keep us in the know if you end up having this pop up.
  • PvP frequency: In an effort to drive more players into each lobby, we've increased the number of Crews that will infil to Perimeter (Beginner). Since so many early-in-career Runners are going through there first, we wanted to take a chance to test this out and see if it helps create more PvP opportunities. How's it feeling?
  • Weasel error codes: Our data suggests that these are primarily limited to EU players, we have found some details that have helped us narrow this down to specific factors, like ISP. This appears to have resolved for the time being, but if you're hitting these still please let us know.
  • Overall PC performance: Thank you all for your reports on this! As we've said in the past, PC configurations can span far and wide, but we want to do everything we can to ensure that each and every one has a good experience. If you have a high-end PC or one that you believe Marathon should be running better on your rig, please keep us posted. We're reading through every report we get our hands on.
Thank you! We'll see you Tau Ceti-side. The Slam is still running through March 2nd at 10AM PT, so we'll be continuing to gather feedback over the weekend.

That's actually dope and should be in almost every extraction shooter. Could be very terrifying. And if it can respond to proxy chat or other voice lines only to ambush you.

Reminds me of this one horror movie I watched as a kid. Set in a hospital and this one scene had a little girl crying alone on a bench or some shit (over 30 years ago) and a someone approached to console the child or whatever and it turned out to be a monster.
