It’s always people who mostly play single player games saying this.

Looking at what you play right now to confirm it and YUP its all Fallout, Mass Effect, Witcher, STALKER, Resident Evil, Red Dead... it’s all solo palyer games with not one mention of a multiplayer pvp game. Of course you’re not going to like it, no matter how they design it. You've spent years playing slop with out ever challenging yourself.

I also even ground my way up to the T110E5 in World of Tanks before calling it quits there. I've been challenged, and at a certain point in these games you realize you're just a rodent on a treadmill, running to keep the player counts high.

(And in my case in particular in War Thunder, to be fodder for the better-skilled guys, as @The Ugly One has discussed. I just hit a plateau in terms of skill where things never, ever got better for whatever reason, and I quit since I was just not having fun.)

I think it depends on the game, what 'ranked' actually is, and if the match making/ELO system actually works.

In the days of server lobbies, i would match into people I would stomp and people who would stomp me all in the same game. Outside of raw aim I would have to rewatch game footage or live in spectator mode to try and improve. When your matching with peers you can slowly learn from one another and improve. How does a guy at the top end whose smashing the lobby get any better if 9/10 times he's just dominating? Iron sharpens iron, that kind of player needs to match with people who are similar to him in ability to improve.

That's not even the case now. Other than killing a compiler for the sake of killing a compiler or grinding loot to unlock codex entries, i ran out of shit to do, I'm waiting on the wipe. I've never played Destiny and this is the first bungie game i've played since... Halo 3? They made that one right?

I think the only people left playing are the terminally online or people who are still casually playing through it.

I have enjoyed the game less with the shotgun nerf and they are talking bout nerfing the knife. The player base seemingly wants a game where you cant be pushed? I may not come back if they get what they want.
These homosexuals would yell about nerfing the sniper in Unreal Tournament 99 on facing worlds because someone got super high up and kept popping heads off

Overpowered weapons and every weapon being ungodly strong in Halo CE made it so everyone spawned with a 3 shot magnum but it was managable for other players. Bungie used to put stupidly OP weapons on the map like the Needler in Halo 3 to give new or less skilled players a chance against MLG sweats which was why Halo 3 had such an unholy amount of players even by modern standards. The barrier to entry was low but there was effectively an infinite skill ceiling. I love Quake and Unreal Tournament but the barrier to entry is much higher than Halo which is why more people still play Halo than either. Maratroon doesn't seem to get that not everyone is a twitch streamer and has infinite hours to get autistic about the game.

Since you tagged me, I'll also mention that War Thunder looks like the kind of game I'd like playing if it were just me vs retardo-bots. Tanks are pretty cool. I'd like to have a garage full of cool tanks to drive around and shoot other tanks with. But I'm not really allowed to do this because I am not willing to turn being good at tank games into a second career. I'd only be allowed to be the training dummy for the good players. If I complained about it, people would lecture me on how I'm not entitled to have fun in a video game unless I am willing to turn it into a second career.

Something I realized recently is that the old Gran Turismo games were basically this. Structurally, GT4 is nearly identical to modern massive-multiplayer competitive games, except of course, you're racing against AI, and if you persist, you'll eventually have a garage full of all the Nissan Skylines and Type Rs you could ever want to drive (NO you may NOT have a 1988 Trans Am; here, have another Skyline variant). It's hard to imagine someone bringing an all-new game to market like this.

Oh Cool pay to win unc games.

Please tell me more about how you dont like marathon, a game you havent played and have no intentions of playing.

That shit was fucking funny and anyone who didn't spend those matches laughing their ass off isn't a Real Gamer™. Either you lucked out, grabbed the sniper and managed to reach your nest to be the popper, or you spent the round giving it the bums rush hoping you'd be the lucky winner who didn't get popped on the bridge before getting a chance to ascend and challenge the sniper yourself.

If controllers ever got replaced with Keyboard and mouse I think we might return to these kinds of games. With how developers want to make games for all platforms and the limitations of the controller its not coming back any time soon.

Don't get mad at me for taking your own advice and playing games in a different genre.
Sure, but pissing and moaning about the game not matching up to your expectations is the next step in that. If you want slow ass grindy shit like world of tanks, go play world of tanks. Same for the people wanting a pve experience, just replay halo for the 100th time or destiny. What are we expecting here? If youre bored of that shit, why would you want more of it?

Playercount is a vital statistic for Marathon because, like Concord, it costs $40 bucks up front so we can estimate roughly how much of a bath Sony is taking on this wreck.

If we take SteamDB's most generous estimate of 1.25M copies sold that's about $40-million, after factoring in Steam's cut. If we again generously assume parity on consoles that's $120-million total revenue, and this game definitely cost more than that to make, so with the playercount in consistent decline it's wildly optimistic to expect Sony will break even, never mind see any ROI.
Yeah, and player count obviously matters a lot more for online games than some FOTM single-player game, just like sales matter more for a big budget game than some indie title. Something selling 50k the first week for an indie title is a phenomenal success but would be a huge failure for a AAA title.

He seems unaware or unwilling to admit that this game actually is matching up to our expectations.
It's really not, you guys desperately are hoping for concord and its not matching up to that at all.

It's sold over a million copies and still has 10s of thousands of people playing it despite having been out for over a month now.

Every post besides me are you faggots praying that today is the day that they shut the servers down, but there's no end in sight, just wishful thinking.

I actually agree with you retards on a lot of things, especially about this game dying, but I'm not in lock step with you. The big contention. Is this game going to die? Yeah probably, but not because the game is actually bad. They spent several hundred million on a niche genre of game, this type of pvp game is to casual gamers as what sunlight is to vampires.

What buying goyslop does to you

this is absolutely correct, but think about how we do soccer. people play soccer all the time for fun and change the rules based on their own skill level and enjoyment. The people who are really good at it go play at an organized level, and the absolute cream of the crop performs in stadiums. We do not make everybody play National League Regulation soccer (or Euro Regulation Football or whatever they call it). But that's how we've been doing video games for the last 5 years. but this isn't soccer. or chess. These aren't games designed with level playing fields, they are VIDEO GAMES with OBVIOUS BALANCING DECISIONS built into how the characters perform.

If you don't want to play ranked overwatch then the developers and community treat you like you're a big baby who can't handle ranked even though when the game launched you could just join a random match and people were doing funny meme compositions like 6x soldiers versus 6x junkrats. It was FUN. I don't know why people don't just call this out for what it is, they GOT RID OF IT (the FUN) because industry big wigs wanted to make E-Sports big so they can make money off of it like sports betting.
I loved playing fighting games in tournaments a long time ago but I agree eSports is gay as fuck and should just die. Patch culture and dev meddling is (mostly) retarded.
And I'm the one consuming slop?
Yes.

It's not dying as fast a death but that's like saying "actually big movie did not lose $300M in the box office, it is only losing $100M, you are big losers".

It's sold over a million copies and still has 10s of thousands of people playing it despite having been out for over a month now.
Every week the numbers look worse and worse, there is no "stabilizing at X players per day" because at this point we may never see 30k players a day. I guess that is still "10s of thousands" but it sounds like cope.

Every post besides me are you faggots praying that today is the day that they shut the servers down, but there's no end in sight, just wishful thinking.
Find me the post that says that "servers should be shut down any day now".

None of the defenders of Marathon 2026 ever seem genuine, it's always some sort of cope/insults, never willing to admit that the game is flawed or has some sort of issue that prevents it from being a viable, long-lasting product. We tend to expect the "[New Game] is the best game of the year" stuff from journalists, but they have some sort of reason why that is, maintaining good relations with publishers and getting free shit. What's your excuse?

Clicking on a user's postings and seeing what games they enjoy is like the equivalent of checking early life on wikipedia.

Lets see Monster Hunter, Battlefield, CoD, Skyrim, and Hell Divers 2

And I'm the one consuming slop?
Yes. You're also the one crying because other people don't share your taste in slop. Go on, dig through my post history and call games I've enjoyed dogshit. See if it provokes walls of seething text.

-sperging-
Huh. Didn’t have Marathon comically underperforming causing a mental break in a user here, but here we are.

I don’t think anyone was genuinely expecting Marathon to go full Concord - that’s a once in a generation level of fuck up, to the point I’d argue it’s become the new meme title for massive bombs - but the fact they spent 9 Figures at minimum, nevermind what Sony spent buying Bungie, them hemorrhaging players like this is both disastrous, and hilarious.

Sure, they allegedly sold 1m copies, but they’ve retained less that 3% of that per the latest player count check - fucking hell, their All Time Peak is still less than 10% of people who allegedly bought the game, and that was on Launch Day, and I’m using allegedly solely because I don’t think we’ve ever gotten official numbers from Sony or Bungie, just some analyst estimate. Between ongoing server and dev costs, the likelihood of them having to shut it down is going to keep going up, solely because the odds of them being able being able to make enough on MTX to justify keeping the lights on drastic goes down.

It’s alright to like a Bad Game - Lord knows I’ve liked some absolute dogshit that I’ve bought for cheap. Acting like a sperg because people are laughing at said Bad Game is how you either get Ignore Filtered, or given a thread depending on how autistic people are feeling…
