Mario Bros. Set to Jump to Big Screen in Movie Deal with Universal’s Illumination - Paging Movie Bob, Paging Movie Bob...

But it'll make back the money. Illumination is famous for having low budget-animated films due to the cut-corners they do, and they just make bank and call it a day. The only movie that flopped was Hop, but nobody really saw Hop to begin with.

So no one is going to mention who the directors are? Okay.

Same guys behind Teen Titans Go, which includes the movie. So expect that kind of humor and wacky quirky fun times.
Even Hop didn't flop due to its $63 million budget, grossed $184million, so likely just a disappointment rather than losing any money. Pretty much everything they make costs between $70 and $80 million and makes $695.4 million per film on average.

Wouldn't be shocked if they spent more on the casts in some movies than the animation. Because Sony also put out movies with budgets around the same, such as Spiderman which looks far better. Something like The Angry Birds movies cost less than what Illumination puts out, yet animation-wise looks much better as well. Really not hard to find cheaper CGI movies that just look miles ahead in CGI quality.

I will never understand the appeal of putting celebrities on animated movies especially when the characters don't even look or act as the actors themselves. Last example I can recall where it made sense was the movie "Antz" where the animated characters were modeled to look and behave like the actors that were voicing them.

Imagine being granted access to one the most recognizable video games IPs in existence which will appeal to literally millions of people around the world and Illumination has to cast a bunch of Hollywood celebrities to appeal to the attention of English speaking movie going normies.

Meanwhile the rest of the non-English speaking world will just get the movie voiced by the usual VO dub actors they always get on their localized version of the movie.

We're now only one step closer to this being canon.

It may not get dubbed. This movie is going to be heavily tied to nintendo's Florida theme park. Nintendo is going all in for the western market from merch to future tv shows and movies. We're going to get another generation of movie bobs.

The only thing I remember about Antz is that toddler me was fucking terrified of it. Must be the faces.

Anyone willing to bet that the new Super Mario Bros. Movie will just be another ridiculous version of Space Jam: A New Legacy without LeBron James making it all about himself?
Possible but I think Nintendo will have an iron grip on how the movie will turn out which will be better or worse. So I guess we'll wait and see. Either way I just want this movie to do well just for some spergouts from Cinemaslob

The appeal is really to dumb normies like you've said. This same mindset applies when they make animated stuff into live action

It's a shame Norm is dead because he would have made a great Kamek if you ask me. Hell he would have made a great Luigi assuming they aren't doing the Italian accents. The only good casting decision in this is Charlie as Luigi, and maybe Jack Black as Bowser.

The casting for this is honestly great for how bizarre it is. It's like they just took a fan's cast for a mario movie and made it real. It's just really bizarre

EDIT: Especially with how Chris Pratt's casting is somehow offensive to Italians and super evil according to Twitter

Twitter just really hates Pratt.

I have no feelings about this entire thing. I'm more interested in how Universal would fuck up a Metroid movie.

Chris Pratt was picked because he's likable and he's box office gold. That's it.
I'm still pissed that we live in a reality where Blue Sky closed down, but yet Illumination still gets to roam.
Say what you will about Nimona being woke, it was fascinating and it sucks we'll never see it. Disney is a pox on entertainment.
