Mario Bros. Set to Jump to Big Screen in Movie Deal with Universal’s Illumination - Paging Movie Bob, Paging Movie Bob...

Honestly the cast is just pretty generic for an animated movie. But the ones I'm curious to see is Bowser (since Jack Black doesn't play villains much), Toad, and Luigi along with whoever Charles Martinet is.

But I love the reactions to the cast, especially Moviebob who mentally broke down because this movie is not the Lord of the Rings Political Thriller that he wanted

The more I think about it the more this cast would make sense for another live action Mario movie. Just have everyone in cheap costumes riffing with each other since most of the cast are comedians or supposed comedians. Also replace Chris Pratt with Danny DeVito like @albert macdonald chan suggested. Also replace Anya Taylor Joy as Princess Peach with Chris Pratt.

Do wonder when Animation studios will learn celebrities don't sell animated movies, well they haven't since Shrek or maybe Shark Tale. Disney and Pixar know this, which is why they no longer market celebrities even when they have them in the voice casts, most you may get is a behind the scenes video or an interview.

It's the brand, perceived quality, premise and characters who sell these movies not because they have a lead of the latest blockbuster in the cast.

I've found animated movies, who trailers and/or posts have the cast listed, normal do far worse than those that don't. Because normally those movies are of worse quality and have to use anything can as a marketing hook.

Look at many of the stands out characters in animated movies, most of them aren't voiced by the bigger stars or sometimes it's an animators voice such as Stitch or those awful Minions.

What is different here is these are well-known characters and people have in their minds how they should sound or at least know who doesn't fit the role. Only other time I remember a backlash like this was with SCOOB, but still wasn't to this level.

Funny to me, watching studios waste money on something that will make the movie worse and just ends up costing more.

This is Illumination which is the embodiment of these lazy studios. Hell I don’t think Sony constantly does the celebrity thing as far as I know

Sony used to do that marketing-wise but seems to have stopped it. As far as I know, The Emoji Movie was the last one to do it. But most of their movies still do hire famous people, but couldn't tell you if they fit the roles.

Looking up Hotel Transylvania 4, Sony did get rid of some of the cast like Adam Sandler and Kevin James. So guess they must think it is not worth paying millions to someone just to do a bad Bela Lugosi impression anymore.

I'm thinking Keegan will pull off Toad well since I've seen him do shrill annoying voices before. I just know that he will say some woke shit though...

Some Facebook personality I follow thinks the Chris Pratt casting is meant to make Mario’s voice sound like Lou Albano Mario.

Illumination Studios? That guarantees that this is going to suck.
But it'll make back the money. Illumination is famous for having low budget-animated films due to the cut-corners they do, and they just make bank and call it a day. The only movie that flopped was Hop, but nobody really saw Hop to begin with.

So no one is going to mention who the directors are? Okay.

Same guys behind Teen Titans Go, which includes the movie. So expect that kind of humor and wacky quirky fun times.
