Mario Bros. Set to Jump to Big Screen in Movie Deal with Universal’s Illumination - Paging Movie Bob, Paging Movie Bob...

Huh, that's something I didn't notice til now
I am not saying it is, but it looks like it to me, and if that was on purpose this movie might actually be good.

I actually have a theory about the movie...The Mario + Peach + Toad stuff will be passable but nothing great, but Bowser and Luigi will somehow end up having amazing chemistry and steal the show.

Less surprising than one'd think if that happens. Mario has to be bland by default as The Hero (even if I think he actually has rather more personality than most have who are stuck in that role), same for Peach as the Damsel, Toad's always been there as a plot device even more than Peach ever was. Luigi needing to be contrasted against Mario once he wasn't a mere P2 palette swap anymore gave him more personality by default and Bowser being a child-friendly final boss means he gets to be hammy by the very nature of playing up how menacing he has to be.

And that basically guarantees my worst fears about the plot.

I just happened to search on Yandex that 92 minutes is approximately 1.53 hours long. Unless they add some amusing subplot that goes somewhere with the story, I'm guessing most of that time will be spent with how they construct Peach's character.

I don't think they would do this for Toad or have Bowser and his minions offer anymore screen time as it is.

90-ish minutes works for a Super Mario Bros. movie. Honestly wouldn't want to see more than two hours of Mario and gang at a time when it's not a video game.
My concern is more that it seems more like a Mario/Mario Kart/DK/Smash film based on the trailers and that’s a LOT to cover in an hour and a half

Just don't make it a boring mess about nothing for almost two hours. 2018 Tomb Raider and Legend of Chun-Li are the worst offenders.

I mean it's not like this is going to be a straight adaptation of 4 different video games.
Judging from what we're seeing, the writers and crew are more focusing on the world building starting from ethe original game.
