Okay! Let's check out Wave 5.

  • Athens Dash: Starting off with Athens Dash was a bit concerning to me because I thought this level looked really mediocre in the trailer. Most of what I was seeing (low-poly houses and weird vistas of shit) were due to the trailer's cinematic camera angle. During the race everything looks great, the music is nice and the course itself has some great turns and neat segments. Overall I was pleasantly surprised with Athens Dash and it ended up being a nice opener.
  • Squeaky Clean Sprint: This is a great new level for Mario Kart 8. Much like Ribbon Road, you are a tiny racer in a giant world. In this case you're in a bathroom. The design is very good (I love getting sucked down the drain) and I had fun with this level.
  • Moonview Highway: You're looking at the best level of Wave 5, possibly the best level released so far and definitely now one of the best courses in Mario Kart 8. Moonview Highway is fucking awesome. It nails every aspect of a fun and interesting track so there's no reason to rehash all that. It's good. Really good! And this track was made for 200cc.
  • Daisy Cruiser: We got one of the holy grails! Daisy Cruiser is as good as ever. The dining room is a deceptive trap and there are hairpin turns everywhere. I'm going to have to re-learn the pool area because they changed it up. But it is a very good ending to an excellent Feather Cup GP.

  • Los Angeles Laps: Cool music and a massive level. It's a really good Tour course, even if it is a bit generic. There are tons of sharp turns and cool set pieces to see as you make your way across the huge area. One thing that really sets this track apart is how you can drive to distant objects over the course of the race.
  • Vancouver Velocity: Pretty cool course. In my brain it kind of melds into the New York Minute track as both have similar technicolor cityscapes and low-key soundtracks. The third lap is neat and I like how it starts by dipping into a tunnel. And I'm a sucker for the ice show. Very serviceable but forgettable.
  • Sunset Wilds: Another killer addition to the game. Great tunes and a great course make Sunset Wilds one of the more unique levels in the game. It is a simpler track in the older 2D style of Mario Kart which means the level can be as technical or as laid back as you make it. Good luck on some of those turns.
  • Koopa Cape: Rounding out the Cherry Cup and Wave 5 is Koopa Cape. It is a high energy level that has you on top of mountains and under the sea in the span of three and a half minutes. The water slide is as fun as ever and they are really embracing half-pipes which is awesome. Oh and at the end where you drop down into the pipe, it's still janky but it is a lot smoother.
And there we have it. That's Wave 5 for Mario Kart 8. This and Wave 4 have both been very good. Each are the best we've gotten which bodes well for Wave 6, the final wave of this booster pack. Daisy Cruise can come off the list; we got it and it is great. Moonview Highway has snuck in as one of the best race tracks in the entire game. Sunset Wilds is a unique and fun surprise. And the new level and Tour levels are all good or great or better. If the Booster Pack didn't catch your attention before (or even with the previous excellent Wave 4), definitely take a second look now. You've got two packs with 16 courses that are easily top-tier and then three other packs with 24 courses, most of which are good or great and a handful of which are alright or okay. None of them are outright bad.

Wave 6 is all that remains and will be here in three or four months. Which courses still have to make the cut? Which do you want? Why haven't we gotten Toad Factory yet? Is this because it is the perfect course to have in your final cup? Yes. Yes that has to be it.

Oh I didn't mention the characters or the bugfixes. They tweaked a bunch of things ranging from racer stats to item distribution. And the three new racers are fine. More is better they just aren't my thing but I am sure people will enjoy them.

Praise God, Jesus, Allah, Buddha, Shiva, and all the saints for we finally got Pauline.

I was discussing this earlier with someone but what exactly is Peachette?

Great selection and I really can't complain. A couple of you had Rosalina's Ice World as long shots. How does it feel, kings?

@Too Many Catgirls
Best selection to end it tbh, I needed the Ice World, and I love that they chose Wii Rainbow Road as the very last track, and the music wasn't shat on, this feels great.

Fell asleep at 7PM last night. Don't get old, kids.

Gonna try these new tracks out now in the AM before work.

Okay. The music player was a great surprise. Wonder if it works like Smash and you can take it with you...

*The last bunch of tracks are mostly great.

Got a chance to play it last night before i went to bed. Pauline is a large character (same level large as Rosalina, Link, and King Boo). I was expecting her voice to be a a little more softer/lower, but it's not completely obnoxious. Her using a microphone stand as the jump actions and having her sing sometimes is pretty clever though.

So far I got her using the Mercedes benz GLA with the GLA tires and standard glider cause with her red dress it makes her look classy as fuck. Haven't decided on an alternate car combo with her skin-tight outfit.

Okay. The music player was a great surprise

Same here. That Vancouver track is IMO top tier as fuck, listened to it for a good 5-10 minutes.
