I remember the days where I used to go do exercise while playing this music, where as all of the other gym rats would play nothing but DaBaby and Lil Baby.

Back on topic, Mario Kart 64 gave us this gem:

I will forever be grateful for the N64 version and Super Circuit for the GBA.

Rating the games I have played:
  • MK DD!! - It was a bit underwhelming. This entry specifically seems like it is either held up as the best or is placed as one of the worst after SNES and GBA. I think it is just mediocre. The battle mode was still restricted to multiplayer only, and even then, you could only have the amount of people playing on the battlefield. Tracks were alright, but not many stick out as iconic to me. Character roster was fine for the time.
  • MKDS - Second best entry in my book. The new tracks were really good giving the franchise Waluigi Pinball, Tick-Tock Clock, and Luigi’s Mansion. DS also had a great roster given the system it was on. R.O.B. was one of the best Mario Kart characters and really should have come back for MK8. Battle mode was finally made single player and was fun. Retro tracks becoming a thing was another highlight. The thing that really sets the game apart is the customization and modes. This game had a mission mode that was really cool, especially with all the bosses. The game also had customization in that it let you create emblems. MKDS was a treat and I hate how many of its ideas never returned.
  • MK Wii - The best title, MK Wii had fantastic/iconic tracks with DK Summit, Koopa Cape, Coconut Mall, Wario’s Goldmine, Toad’s Factory, etc.. The character roster was the best of the series as it included so many faces like Funky Kong, Birdo, and Diddy. I also love the weird physics and trick based gameplay as it made the game super fast paced and frantic. Battle mode was also pretty good, including some of the best stages in MK history. Generally speaking, I love MK Wii, it is by no means perfect, but what is there is fun. My only complaints with it are the bs requirements for 3-stars.
  • MK7 - Fine. MK7 is boring. It has fine tracks, he’ll, even some greats like Rosalina’s Ice World and Music Park. Outside of that, it just feels inferior. Unlocking all the karts is a massive pain in the ass given the shitty coin system. The character roster sucks, it favored Metal Mario and Honey Queen over Waluigi. The only new character I liked was Wiggler. This game added water and gliding, but neither has felt like it really changed the game. Both are more visual differences than overall gameplay. I think the fact that SEGA came out a year after really hurt these new styles as Sonic actually used them to fully change the stage.
  • MK8 & MK8D - It is another fine game, but like 7 it can just feel bland overtime. Visuals are the biggest highlight of this entry, but after seeing the DLC, along with some likely nostalgia over previous entries, I think the brighter, more plastic look is more fitting for Mario and friends. As for the gameplay, it is fine. It feels the most “baby’s first Mario Kart” of the series, which is why I believe I prefer Wii more. MK8 just feels slower. The item rotation is also a lot less hectic, which takes away from the frantic chaos of the series. Character roster, even after Deluxe, feels lacking. Big names like Diddy are still missing. I will say, Battle Mode is the best of the series in the Deluxe version, great stadiums and gameplay modes made it a hit with my siblings.
I like Mario Kart, but I think as time has gone on, it becomes less appealing to me. From a gameplay perspective, Sonic and Crash are far more involving and faster. I feel like I want Mario Kart to evolve more than it has because those titles propose what else can be done with the base. Mario Kart was a staple of childhood, but now I kind of prefer it’s rip offs as they are more interesting.

Mario Kart walked so this masterpiece could run.

FAST Racing NEO/FAST RMX is a great game if you want something faster. It also helps that it is competently made, very pretty, relatively inexpensive and doesn't take up a ton of space on your system. Also the soundtrack is great and you'll probably recognize the announcer voice.

Here is FAST RMX on the slowest speed.

The general premise is that you collect the shiny orbs to build up your boost power and you also gain boosts by swapping your energy color between orange and blue. If you hit a blue pad while you're orange-shifted, you slow down; if you hit a blue pad while you're blue-shifted, you speed up. They also have Hero Mode in which your entire GP is over if you die. And you can ram other vehicles and send racers to their death. As is tradition.

I got insanely good at Mario Kart Wii. Super heavy on the Flame Runner motorcycle is literally the only way to play. Hardest turns, highest speed. I did beat all the hard ghosts too with their own Karts, was fun.
That aside, Double Dash co op is ridiculously fun, adds a whole extra layer to the race with the punches, faster spark generation for boosts, someone only focusing on laying down punishment, not even including the fact it's the first one with kart stats, weight classes, and, AFAIK, the only one that had character specific items. I'd say it's the best one, but that may partly be nostalgia.
The best Mario Kart 8 tracks are the sprints, the F-Zero recreations especially. 200cc is a fun addition, going TOO FAST is really fun. Crank up the Inital D soundtrack and it's a blast.

Honestly, my favorite Mario Kart is the one on WII. People think I'm a mad man for using the steering wheel and for choosing rainbow road every time. Either way I don't care.

Now, who the fuck (other than soyboys and spoiled children) pay 25 dollars for dlc of an 8 year old game?
I think Mario Kart Wii brought kart racing to the masses. 64 being a close second.

I guess it had to do with the fact that the Wii is one of Nintendo's best selling consoles. The N64 was the first console that bombed in sells, second to the Gamecube.

N64 and Wii had more cultural penetration than the GameCube did though. Probably partly why N64 games are so adored, besides being innovative and generally good.

Smash Brothers had more popularity than Double Dash. So it must've been something with DD in particular.
I don't quite see your point. They were both very popular games on a system that did not achieve the same market success as other consoles of its generation. That smaller community understandably loved its games that much more (aka they wouldn't shut up about them on gamefaqs) due to the us/them dynamic of the console wars. One being more popular than the other is less relevant to the fact that both games were in fact popular. You have to remember that during that era Nintendo fans were being assaulted on all sides (as is tradition) but did not have the sales numbers to back up their case, despite the games themselves being largely excellent. Smash and Kart were two prime examples of great Nintendo games that fans of other systems wanted to play, but could not unless they wanted to eat their words.

The year might have changed but the shitposting hasn't. You can thank SEGA for that. "Genesis does" is literally the only successful thing SEGA ever created. But it set the narrative for the next 30 years and counting.

You should've been DLC with your Mercedes. Remember when Nintendo made Mercedes-Benz karts as DLC?
My brother in law mains the classic Mercedes. Not sure why.

I strongly suspect we will be getting new characters here and there with these upcoming waves. And I also would not be surprised to see a new mode or two akin to "random GP" that takes advantage of the large number of options.

Not sure about that, feels like something they would've announced along with the courses like they did the first time MK8 got DLC. I expect the reason it's cheap is because a lot of them are up-ported from Tour and polished up a bit. It is like 50 cents a track after all.

But on the off chance we do get characters. give me Prince Peasley from Superstar Saga.
