Mario (Paper) has been inflicted with the woke DEI virus in new Switch remake.

Just assume going forward that all Japanese-made media to be butchered by xenophobic localizers that hate Asians. It's been an ongoing trend for a bit. Western games get to be as crude and gross as they want. Eastern games try to be a bit risque or controversial and get hit with the censorship stick to tone things down "for a Western audience."

It's another example across ~30 years of Japanese videogames being altered/butchered by american localizers who refuse to do a professional job and respect the medium. They can even go the extra mile these days by enforcing Japanese (or any asian/foreign) media to follow their puritan and political values.

These instances deserve to be documented regardless of your personal feelings on the matter, because consumers in this hobby have the right to be informed.

How many of yall played RuneScape and then played RuneScape 2 (OSRS) and maybe played RuneScape 3?

They made the same damn game three times in a row but there were differences. On a remake I expect differences for all kinds of reasons, easy example is the broken English of Final Fantasy 7 to the remake having voice acted lines an American easily understands.

So I guess call me when there's something to give a fuck about here

Indeed. Despite my minor complaints, I'm probably not going to get the game anyway.

Much like with Super Mario RPG, I've got the original so there's really no point in buying it again. Especially when even these small changes irritate me. This stuff is for the younger set. And that's fine.

They removed any word that could be considered a negative judgment about a mental state (crazy, loon, lunatic), as well as gendered terms (ladies and gentlemen).

What's the name of the "Mr. Softener" item now would be my question.

This all begs the question, who wants to support Nintendo by not only purchasing a Switch but purchasing a game you probably already own(ed) on said Switch?

We live in an anti-Nintendo society.
 
For me, the biggest bitch I have with the remake (aside from the DEI bullshit) is how every single floor is more reflective than a bowling alley and how all the "voices" are actually physically painful to hear. Dishonorable mention to renaming the Shadow Sirens to "The Three Shadows" which is the biggest fucking downgrade since the latest Firefox logo.

Nintendo is the spook driving inflation I guess. But they also make fucked up decisions like "Mario 3D All Stars is only for sale digitally for a year!" so people realize it's never going to go on sale and just pull the trigger if they want those games.

In general I support Nintendo for making awesome old games playable for normies who couldn't emulate if they wanted to, but they've definitely slid into the gross'n'greedy behavior we all love to hate. Mammon too tasty.
